Brad is pretty good, I think. I don't play the drums, but he sounds cool.
For some reason, I've been getting annoyed with Tim on their later basslines. On more than a couple of tracks, he keeps the bassline reserved for the 1-5 frets and usually uses open strings a lot. True, it can make a bassline catchy and nice and fast, and it's really coming up more in Audioslave, but I noticed it first with Rage. I think he did his best work on that first album. I especially liked the "Take The Power Back" bassline.
Anyone else sort of feel this way or am I the only one?

I agree his basslines are getting more and more simplistic, but some simple yet funky basslines own.

ex: RATM - Born As Ghosts, Korn - Somebody Someone

Darkness 06-24-2005 05:07 PM

Korn doesn't have any good basslines. Leave them out of this perfectly fine thread.

I like his bass playing a lot, but his bass line in take the power back is good stuff.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-24-2005 05:13 PM

I really think that Tim is one of the better bassists of today. Listen to How I Could just Kill a Man. He plays a couple pretty technical lines on there. It's about as technical as good ol' Tim Bob gets. :p

Darkness 06-24-2005 05:14 PM

Tims one of my favorite bassists forsure. His funky style and use of wah is awesome.

Aeaon 06-24-2005 05:42 PM

He's pretty much my favorite bass player besides Flea from RHCP.

Shaft! 06-24-2005 05:54 PM

I like his earlier stuff more, but he still has some awesome basslines later on and with a new band.
I gotta admit, the intro to "Calm Like A Bomb" amazed me when I first heard it. I bought the live DVD "The Battle of Mexico City" just to watch him play it, and in doing so, I was exposed to their earlier works and I became a fan.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-24-2005 06:05 PM

I think that Bombtrack's intro would be hard to play on a bass. I have trouble playing it on my guitar, and everything is harder on bass. :p

Shaft! 06-24-2005 06:20 PM

I've used a pick on "Bombtrack" when I get to play a bass. I can play it on my guitar, but with a bass, I just have to practice with my fingers more when I get the chance.
Tim even messed it up sometimes. You can hear him sort of slip on Live & Rare.

Are you guys kidding? That is not that hard to play on either of the two. But hey I must be that good... Nah I'm just joking I'm not that great, but still hard to play? I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

Darkness 06-24-2005 10:47 PM

Yeah I think its pretty easy to...

Shaft! 06-24-2005 10:48 PM

It is easy, the only thing is that I get tired after repeating it. I kinda wanna switch to the verse nice and fast after once or twice. I don't like to play something like that over and over. Just some weird thing I've got. The reason I have to use a pick is because I have to work on my fingering more for it. My friend is losing his bass because he's moving and so I'll have to invest in a Fender or something.
Bombtrack isn't my favorite off of the s/t anyway. My favorites are "Take The Power Back" for that funky bassline, "Know Your Enemy" for the solo, and "Wake Up" because of that darned Matrix movie.

anybody ever hear of zebrahead they sound almost exactly like Rage

Triangle 06-25-2005 04:23 AM

I haven't listened to Rage in a while so put on their self titled today. Still as awesome as I can remember.

Bombtrack is fairly easy to play on bass. I haven't looked at tabs for it and I can play the intro.

wrathchild88 06-25-2005 05:09 AM

i saw audioslave on wednesday in brixton, it was pretty fuc.king awesome.
they played 3 ratm songs, "bulls on parade", "sleep now in the fire" and "killing in the name"
i was in the pit for "killing in the name" which was the most insane pit i've been in

Shaft! 06-25-2005 09:18 AM

Was Chris singing or rapping like Zack?
Even if the basslines are easy, everyone still wants to learn to play them. I want to start working on the bassline to "Darkness" and that is one of the smoothest, jazziest basslines I ever heard from Tim. I figure that if I'm in jazz band, I'l pick it up quickly, but it still sounds cool.

Moses 06-25-2005 09:21 AM

**** it, I need more Rage all I have right now is Evil Empire. I've heard all their albums I just need them on my comp.

That's a lie.....

Shaft! 06-25-2005 09:25 AM

I had Evil Empire, but I didn't really get into it. I got the albums all out of order.
BoLA, Evil Empire, s/t, Renegades, Live & Rare, Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium.

Really? I got into Evil Empire from the beginning.

Shaft! 06-25-2005 09:35 AM

The basslines caught me, and I did find "Year of tha Boomerang" catchy, but once I listened to the s/t(I got it the week after I got E.E.), I wondered why Tom wasn't soloing like he had before. It sounded like more of a rap album to me than rock, although there are obvious rock tracks.
I'm a bit more open to it now. Tom's effects are pretty awesome. Tim's bass is catchy. Brad's drumming gets the beats stuck in my head, and Zack's political rapping got me into politics.

Moses 06-25-2005 09:44 AM

I actually almost like E.E. better due to the fact it's more Rap orientated......

Alot more catchy.

Shaft! 06-25-2005 09:47 AM

The rapping is catchy, but I've preferred the s/t above all of the albums. It seems to have more metal/hard rock influences and I'm a sucker for both.

Moses 06-25-2005 09:49 AM

Well not just the rapping, listen to Snakecharmer for a second and you'll know what I mean.

Shaft! 06-25-2005 09:51 AM

I did like "Snakecharmer", and I wish I could. I'll probably have to buy the C.D. again. Someone got into my C.D. case and took Evil Empire along with a Linkin Park C.D. I was going to use for skeet shooting.
It doesn't cost much. I liked "Tire Me", "Down Rodeo", "Vietnow", "Year of tha Boomerang", and "Revolver" so I'll end up getting it again.

Moses 06-25-2005 09:53 AM

Overall the album is more catchy, and I think parts of it are more original. I really love s/t though, but it's more of a mood thing. And on top of that I don't have it on my computer.

Darkness 06-25-2005 10:25 AM

Acutually it isn't, name a Korn song with a good bassline. I don't find anything spectacular about somebody someones bassline at all.

Children of the Korn- Some pops in there drenched with effects
Justin- Flows very well to me, still too low in the mix
Seed- has a creepy feel to it
Cameltosis- more popping/slapping, this time without the effects.
Blind-the little bass in the beginning is just so phat I can't tell you. Also the outro has a latin bassline in there.
Ball Tongue- No need for explanation there, the slapping/popping.

That's only off of two albums. I really must agree with you on Tim > Feildy though.
