DT are a band that besides about 7 songs bore me to absolute death. They're awesome though, I just can't find myself listening that much. Portnoy is hardcore.

The Glass Prison is one of the greatest songs ever composed. I love the parts where it's awesome riffing and someone (I think it's Mike) going "hey, hey, hey".

M7S 04-09-2005 02:21 AM

I cant stand Train Of Thought , really cool riffs n stuff but useless solo crap ( imo ) I prefer Scenes and Images way more over Train , way better solo style imo

Yeah, I agree partly. The riffs are just great, but the solos suck. There just pointless shred.

bassist-bmxer 04-09-2005 06:26 AM

I actually like the solo's in Train of Thought, specially the guitar solo in 'Stream of Consciousness'

yeah, the last solo in that is great. (the one from 9.28 - 10.19)

red barchetta 04-09-2005 06:40 AM

i love dt... they're going to do a UK tour during october/november. not during exams!!!

bassist-bmxer 04-09-2005 06:57 AM

no way! really?? where?

lol sorry for the questions.

Triangle 04-09-2005 07:00 AM

Sorry, they are!?! It doesnt mention on their tour dates.

bassist-bmxer 04-09-2005 07:15 AM

glass prison=(in my opinion) best song ever recorded.....
and 2nd would have to be the drapery falls by opeth...funny how other than that song i dont really like any other opeth...

bassist-bmxer 04-09-2005 07:56 AM

Yeah The glass prison is just amazing, I dont know how they do it! I have a live video of it and they play it perfectly! Listen to the bass line in the guitar and keyboard solo's bit, John Myung has so much stamina! I get tired even playing the first few seconds of that bit.

OH YEAH!

So goin'.

Sebrellium 04-09-2005 08:28 AM

Images and Words was also my last, but I was (and still am) impressed by their range of talents, being able to play (and wanting to) MOP, NOTB etc. "Home" is my favourite song though.

vashts80 04-09-2005 09:29 AM

I need to get the Budokan DVD. That is all.

In some respect I can understand that...

However, I personally think the riffage out of ToT more than makes up for Petrucci's constant shredding.

Besides, it's not like every solo on ToT is really that pointless, I mean...

The As I Am solo is really pretty cool sounding. The opening solo in This Dying Soul is as well...although the second solo isn't quite as good IMO...

The back and forth between Jordan and John in Endless Sacrifice is neat too, and the aforementioned SoC solo is really nice too. John doesn't solo in Honor Thy Father, which may come as a surprise to many...so if you don't like the solos there, blame Jordan not John :p

I never used to like the In The Name of God solo, because I thought it was pointless shred...and to some extent it still is, but it has grown on me a bit. If you get the Budokan DVD, they do an extended version of this song, with John doing a very melodic solo, closer to the style I think you'd like...

Yeah, the outro solo is pretty good I admit.

I also love the Hollow Years solo on that dvd...

M7S 04-09-2005 12:55 PM

yeah some of the solos are good, but I mean that his Scenes solos are way better imo. Like the Spirit Carries On solo and the Overture solos n stuff

Lord Abortion 04-09-2005 02:03 PM

I would sell my own mother to see them and maiden play... that may just be the greatest gig ever put on...

I now have all the studio albums except 6 degrees and FII but I will get 'em soon...
DT rule! I&w is still the best

horseypie 04-09-2005 11:56 PM

i only have ToT and scenes.....scenes has artier solos and ToT is more fast....i likes them both....lol i got bored and downloaded ther As i am solo of jp's website....its kool

xMyowNx777 04-10-2005 01:51 PM

Best CD?

Which DT CD should I get?!

Any opinions.

red barchetta 04-10-2005 01:56 PM

a lot of people will say images and words or awake

RiceMonster 04-10-2005 03:07 PM

I would say Images and Words or Scenes From a Memory (which would be recommended more than Awake, actually).

The JoZ 04-10-2005 03:09 PM

I am going to be different, and say either Awake, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, or Train of Thought.

I really think SFAM and I&W are overrated.

Hear, hear!

Does anybody besides me feel that the second disc of "6 Degrees..." is their best work?

I do! Easily. :thumb:

I mean, it's got everything. :) I just love it.

The JoZ 04-10-2005 03:52 PM

I thought it was good when I listened to it, but it's been a while.

I really don't think they have a 'best work', I think there are pros and cons to every album they have.

halfdeadhippo 04-10-2005 04:58 PM

I agree with you on that one. The downside to "6 Degrees..." is that it's two discs, and therefore a.) more expensive, b.) unnecessarily lengthy, in my opinion. The second disc seems, to me, to show the widest possible range of DT's style, while being only 42 minutes long.

bassist-bmxer 04-10-2005 05:14 PM

Yeah so I have 'Images and Words' and 'Train Of Thought'. Which album should I get next?

RiceMonster 04-10-2005 05:34 PM

Scenes From a Memory or Awake. :thumb:
