if you carefully read the lyrics in blackwater park and deliverance, there are small concepts, not as clear as MAYH and SL but still there. For example deliverance tells of a man who murders a women by drowning her in the sea and the guilt and emotions he feels. Read the lyrics in deliverance and a fair judgement, that should give you a fair idea.
Blackwater park tells of a disease and the characters close escape from death, The "Leper" Affinity tells of obtaining the disease, whilst Bleak tells of the pain and suffering the character faces. Harvest faintly continues the concept with lyrics such as "Halo of death all i see is departure, mourners lament but its me whos the martyr" Drapery falls also contains conceptual lyrics such as "Please remedy my confusion And thrust me back to the day" and "Pull me down again And guide me into pain". In Dirge for November there are lyrics such as "The omen showed, took me away Preparations are done, this can't last". The Funeral Portrait contains conceptual lyrics like "I'm greeting my downward fall Leaving the throes to others" and finally Blackwater Park is pretty much all conceptual lyrics, talking about the path to death. This is just how i felt the album concepts went, they are not exactly clear but you can get a faint idea about what they are about. |
This is a very belated response, but he named his daughter Melinda. Maybe thats the reason?
thats exactly why and tis is kool how finaly they have a good thread about a good band i love opeth , i personaly own blackwater park and ****ation and my band plays alot fo there songs , awesome band even the producer in the dvd says that even fi u dont like metal ull love opeth just for how great musicians they are. |
I love the riff in "Master Apprentice", but that's about it.......I think their drummer over-uses his double-pedal
|
To Opeth Oasis:
Blackwater Park isn't a concept album in the way that you put it, ie there is no story connecting the songs to eachother. I could try and explain some stuff if you like, but I'm about to go to work (on New Years :() so it'll have to wait. |
read at the end, thats how I as an individual felt about the albums, you are probably right though, there isnt really a concept, thanks for always correcting me though, you improve my knowledge
Just so you know, that's a quote from Voltaire, not a Family Guy episode.
I am well aware of that and thanks for trying to get technical with me :thumb: And I could of been like everyone else and put his name under that quote...I didn't feel like it. But you see, I took that quote from a Family Guy episode, and Peter Griffin did say that so whats the difference? And to whoever was talking about Opeth's AntiChristianLyrics...who cares if Opeth has anti-christian lyrics, have you watched TV lately? Id rather listen to slightly retarded chipmukns with down syndrome fight over a torn paper bag at 4 a.m. then watch any of that RAP/realityTV/fake hollywood drama bull****. Post Script: FTW "I like cookies" -Flynn- |
Does anyone know of any bands out there that have the same type of sound as Opeth? I've heard Novembre was similar, but I haven't heard any of their material.
|
but opeth DON'T have antichristian lyrics so theres nothing to care or worry about and bands that sound like opeth, ummm if you find the right ayreon song you have a similarity
|

no way, have you listened to their stuff? I will admit that on Deliverance, Lopez did go crazy on the drumming, but he did it with style, listen to an album like Still Life, where there isn't a great deal of double-kick action going on. Listen to Blackwater Park, same deal. MAYH is the only other album where he could've over-used it, but IMO, over-usage of double kick isn't bad, especially when you have class anf style about it :thumb: HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! |

But their lyrics are very well-crafted and contain the same range of emotion as the music itself, and there is no reason not to talk about the lyrical themes therein. |
a very true statement indeed :thumb:

how awesome is that, in that interview, mikael says he would love to tour with TOOL, that would ****ing rock |
i reckon lol it better happen
|
that would be sweet, he even said metallica.
I wouldn't mind seeing them open for these bands. I'm definitely down for their next tour. |
i would cross the earth twice just to see a Tool and Opeth concert
|
i thought it was interesting that he said he doesnt mind people downloading Opeth's music off the net. it shows opeth are really about the music.
|
What was the concept to Blackwaterpark? I know there is a story behind each album, i'm wondering what it was to BWP.
BTW- Whats you're favorite Opeth album cover? |

Most people end up buying Opeth's albums after downloading their music anyway (I've tried unsuccessfully 4 times now). If it wasn't for downloading, many bands wouldn't have the fan base they have today. |

quoted for truth, It seems that the regular metal fan will buy the album to support the band. Go metal :) |

I was really hoping to hear songs from either Orchid or Morningrise...but to my dismay...they didn't play a single song from either album. Do they even play songs from those albums live? Have you witnessed songs from Orchid or Morningrise live? If so, what songs and when was the concert? I think their old record company started being stingy when Opeth decided to change to another company. so Opeth aren't aloud to play anything off Orchids and Morningrise anymore :( |

No, the thing with that was that they weren't allowed to record them for the dvd. I'm pretty sure the label can't stop them from playing any songs that they want to. Also, I remember reading about a year or two ago that Mikael said that on this past tour, they would play songs that they usually don't play live. That could be the reason for the exclusion of older material, because it's usually played. |
