My favorite Speed Racer moment is the episode where they go to India (or a hideous simulacrum thereof) to have Spritle compete in the Junior Grand Prix and the prince of the nation is Spritle's twin. Midget assassins attack Spritle thinking he's the prince, but Speed manages to capture one and interrogates him.

What was great about this is that Speed idea of interrogation was to have Chim-Chim stand in front of the midget, clumsily waving his hands for about 10 seconds, then stepping away to show the midget's face covered in scratches.

When Speed threatens the midget that he'll sick Chim-Chim on him again if he doesn't talk, the diminutive assassin screams, "I'll talk, I'll talk! Just keep that monkey away from me!" and he's not being sarcastic. He's practically crapping his miniature tights as Chim-Chim meances him.

The Japanese may not have intended it, but in that scene they accomplished the pinnacle of animated comedy. All other funny cartoons are judged by that scene.

You're missing out. Aside from the comedy value, there's a lot of important social commentary.

In one two-parter episode, Speed's plane crashlands in the jungle in Africa and he's rescued by a group of aboriginal Zululanders who are portrayed in a racist manner not seen since Hollywood produced the first talkie musicals with white people in blackface.

That episode had a very powerful message that racism is no laughing matter... until now!
