Apocalyptic Raids 04-21-2007 09:38 PM
Alright, since there has been no real objection to starting new threads, I'm going to go ahead and do it but first I want to establish who's starting the new threads because I don't want a mad house of new threads when I close them.

Threads that will be restarted:
Black Metal
This thread (I'll post the new one?)
Death Heads
Classic Rock
Folk/Viking (Stormrider331)

let me know if I missed any threads over 10k posts and post if you have thoughts on who should post the new versions of these threads. Thanks.
wouldn't it be easier if you started the new thread right after you close the old one? you could just copy the first post from this thread.

I have no problem starting them myself but some people get a stick in the butt when someone else starts a thread =|

Close please :)

Riva 04-22-2007 07:12 PM

Dude, why do we need a new problems thread?!?

Permanent Solution 04-22-2007 07:56 PM

Same reason we close any non-problematic thread...size?

Jacaranda 04-22-2007 09:13 PM

Thats dumb.

Permanent Solution 04-22-2007 09:35 PM

Jac: *shrug* Ok if you like slow servers I guess it is...

I could make a new Death heads if you'd like.

Stoic 04-23-2007 06:34 AM

LEAVE THE DEATH HEADS ALONE FOR GOD'S SAKE!

It's the oldest thread around, started back in 2002. It's classic :(

Jondur 04-23-2007 07:12 AM

The death heads should only be closed and a new one started if you can find Azagthoth and make him start the new one.

Stoic 04-23-2007 07:30 AM

Indeed Jondur! This guy is a legend. He left the forums a long time ago and people still remember him. Also, if you read the first few pages you'll see that he's put a lot of effort in order to keep the thread alive. And it's always sweet to have newbies in the thread saying that "Nevermore ain't death metal" only to hear that they just quoted a 5 year old post :D

Kage 04-23-2007 07:51 AM

Leave the death heads thread open for chrissakes. It's a bastion of the forums; it's been there for five years. That's longer than most marriages. It seems like closing it would be really sad and futile.

if this is so, keep the death head thread...

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2007 09:46 AM

Still; it's a ****ing thread.

Kage 04-23-2007 09:49 AM

Yeah but it's cool.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2007 09:55 AM

Faster servers > posterity tbqh

Bartender 04-23-2007 10:07 AM

Having a big thread on the server doesn't really affect server speed except within that thread, as far as I can tell.

I suggested we close and restart the first community thread because it had something like 60,000 posts, and was at the point where the search function just couldn't work within it. I'd rather the death heads thread stayed as it is, and a 10,000 post thread is hardly anything, especially when it's as relatively rarely used as this one.

Lunch 04-23-2007 12:24 PM

No one had any trouble closing the original classic rock thread >:[

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-23-2007 12:51 PM

I guess Vince is just trying to act smart but really he doesn't know anything about technology!

No the draw on the bandwidth of a server affects the bandwidth of a server period. It's not like the server has individual bandwidth for each thread =\ What you notice as a user is the loading times and yes that is only noticeable in larger threads but the strain on the server still exists.

But I dunno if everyone's going to throw a fit I'm not going to do anything *shrug*

jake: If you want me to write a detailed description of how the server works I can give you one but I really don't see a reason to explain the propogation of bits and such. Just because you can't see soemthing doesn't mea it doesn'h happen...especially in the computing world.

Kage 04-23-2007 02:54 PM

I'd say Vince's last comment is especially relevant in a technological society !!

Permanent Solution 04-23-2007 03:00 PM

I just noticed how many typos I made in there...buh.

Kage: :(?

Riva 04-23-2007 05:40 PM

I'd like to see the death heads thread remain just because it's like a veteran of a past time, filled with more hope than these dark days.

And this thread only has 14 000 posts. :-/

I have nearly 14 000 posts Vince. Does that mean when I get them you'll take me out the back and shoot me? Huh?

Nah I'll make Jelle do it. You're his dog after all, not mine.

Riva 04-23-2007 06:00 PM

Haha, last time I ban anyone for you, emogothfagengineer.

Permanent Solution 04-23-2007 06:03 PM

Hahaha, because banning R&M spammers is doing me a favor eh? :p

Kage 04-23-2007 06:12 PM

Well you did it anyway, so now we're even.

Permanent Solution 04-23-2007 06:15 PM

It's a good thing I'm a dragon or I would have been shot long ago. :D

Jake: That wasn't detailed :p

Permanent Solution 04-27-2007 08:21 PM

Ok guys, well life is really busy right now so I'm going to ask someone else to run RMOTM for me for April and quite possibly May as well. Volunteer in this thread if you'd like to run it.

Nostalgia 04-27-2007 08:23 PM

Don't let Jake, 'cause you know, he can't really count right. :D
