At Milton Academy (one of the top prep schools in MA), five male students (two 16-year-olds, two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old, I think) were expelled for recieving oral sex from a 15-year-old female student and were arrested on statutory rape charges (the legal age in MA is 16). From what I can gather, it was 100% consentual...but the girl didn't get kicked out either.

So the two 17-year-olds and the 18-year-old were put on trial (the 16-year-olds were tried as juveniles and got probation until they turned 18) and faced severe jail time. They lucked out and got community service and probation, but they weren't reinstated at the school. Also, they were forced to read written apologies at their trial (WTF?), which is retarded because [b]it was consentual. They have nothing to apologize for.[/b]

I'm not going to say "Oh they were only a few years off blah blah" but I think it's retarded that Milton Academy won't let them back in...they were good students and good kids (this was the only real spot on their records) who were (let's face it) the victims of growing up in an era where America is a hotbed of sexual activities among teens. And once again, the girl willingly
agreed to do it.

The way it works in the UK is something like if you are 16 you are legal...but if you bang someone that's 14 you can be up to 17 and it still be ok( or not ok, but no charges will be clamped upon you for it)....it's only when you get past 18 then charges start getting clamped on you....that is my understanding of it...

I know it was an illegal act, but it wasn't something truly heinous--if it was actual rape it could be easily justified. It was just a bunch of horny kids doing what horny kids do--and from what I can gather, these were good kids. The girl got a heavy suspension--are you telling me they couldn't have done that to the guys?

I never said, "They shouldn't be tried, they shouldn't be convicted"...I said, "They shouldn't be kicked out of school."

Milton Academy is (I assume) a private school, and thus can basically do as it pleases. If it is a public school and the kids got expelled because that's how the government does, I can't argue. But it's a private school, so they can make up their own mind, and I don't think it's right to expel the kids. Let the law punish them as it pleases, but keep them in school.
