What do you think of it?
I'm not too experienced or knowledgeable in the area of soul, but I really enjoy it. It's a solid 4/5; track highlights for me were Don't Give Up on Me, Diamond in Your Mind, and Soul Searchin'. I'd like to pick up Make Do With What You Got sometime soon.

The Decemberists - 5 Songs EP
Leonard Cohen - Songs Of Love And Hate

Love the avatar.

I've listened to "A Pair of Brown Eyes" far too much over the past few days.
I've also been listening to Smiths covers, I've found one or two gems but most of them are lackluster.

Little Man being Erased 11-29-2005 11:24 PM

I love your avatar.

I first heard this song on a Transworld skating video and as soon as it was over I got it on my pc.
"Wrong" by Archers Of Loaf.
It's old "indie" rock, I guess.

Wanker 11-30-2005 12:07 PM

I've been listening to a bunch of GY!BE lately (go figure) to prepare myself for a presentation on globalization and multinationals.

I'll probably be using this picture as an audio/visual aid: http://www.jaybabcock.com/mapofevilinvert.jpg

Hey Alex, I listened to the first song of that Neu album once. I thought it sucked. Am I missing some form of post punk enlightenment?

JonM 11-30-2005 06:24 PM

Yeah I don't really like them either.

Little Man being Erased 11-30-2005 07:09 PM

I'm listening to The Smiths.

Wanker 11-30-2005 07:15 PM

Does Neu! sound anything like Wire?

Wanker 11-30-2005 07:25 PM

But they're post-punk?

Wanker 11-30-2005 07:33 PM

Ohh, okie dokie.

Zappa 11-30-2005 08:12 PM
Hey Alex, I listened to the first song of that Neu album once. I thought it sucked. Am I missing some form of post punk enlightenment?
You mean "Hallogallo?" It's beautiful, uplifting, mechanical, driving, subtle, and passionate. What's not to love?

And to the whole post-punk thing: if anything, they're proto-punk. Their last studio album was released in '75. They inspired the punk scene to a certain extent, and the post-punkers took on some Neu!-ish qualities quite a bit, but I would rather just separate them completely. I think of Neu!'s music as progressive rock, but it's a distinctly German strain of prog.

His Name Is Alive - Home Is In Your Head

Happymeal 11-30-2005 09:30 PM

Anyone heard the new Calexico?

Glitterati 11-30-2005 10:19 PM
Neu is ok. Nothing that blows my mind. I prefer Kraftwerk.
Can't beat Kraftwerk.

Little Man being Erased 11-30-2005 10:27 PM

Today has consisted of the following.

The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Murder Ballads
The Veils - The Runaway Found
Sufjan Stevens - Hark! Songs for Christmas Vol 1
Elvis Costello - My Aim is True
The Decemberists - Picaresque

I've finally given a Sufjan Stevens album a listen (well kinda). It was ok.

Picaresque really is a fantastic album. My only minor problem with it is the last song. The album would have been just a bit better if it had finished with "The Mariner's Revenge Song."
