It would have to be a bass-off, I can't compete with an insult like that.

FlamingCouch 11-04-2010 11:55 AM

Uh-oh.... well in that case I fold. I only ever competed in one of the bass-offs here and was blown away when I heard the competition. I still have Havic's track from that comp, I think it was called Metonymy or something crazy.

Incidentally, re: our bass-off... I really liked what you did with the harmonics on that piece, I couldn't pull that off if I tried. and was that bit at 1:34 reversed with a bow on? It almost sounded classical man.

FlamingCouch 11-04-2010 11:56 AM

I guess in hindsight I could've suggested a maple syrup drink-off, a ride a grizzly bear to Parliament-off, a toque-off or a hockey-off, but hey that's why hindsight's 20/20.

(I think that second part was direct at HaVIC)

I think it'd be kind of cool to have another comp, but there's such a lack of participation that it just wouldn't happen.

Nah, the second part was me joking about your bass track recorded for the bass-off we didn't do, because I'd be totally digging into Chris Farley-like probings of the track were I to hear it. If it existed.

Ahem. anyways.

yeah, I totally agree that the lack of participation would make a comp pretty useless. and as far as I go personally, my playing hasn't really developed over the last long while... I kind of got stuck in a repetitive rut and the whole 'not having internets' at home thing means I'm not constantly locked in my room playing instruments and surfing.

Man, I've got to get back into that groove! Move back into my parents' house, sit around pumping out tunes and playing instruments... although my drums wouldn't really fit in my old room.

hehehe here come the memories. I remember one time I was playing bass in my birthday suit, because I had just woken up with an idea in my head and hadn't bothered to get dressed. My mom came in saying something along the lines of "oh, well I hear you playing so you must be awake" and then stopped midway when she noticed all I was wearing was my bass. Damn was that ever awkward.

"WHERE ARE YOUR CLOTHES?!"
"I haven't got dressed yet! I wanted to get the idea out before I forgot it!"
"WHAT IF SOMEONE COMES IN YOUR ROOM LIKE I JUST DID?!?!"
"That's why I have a door! So people can knock!"

In hindsight she could've caught me doing much worse.

Woah, 1,400th post.

Ryan, you make my life look boring as sh*t.
Getting drunk and stealing crap from construction sites isn't exactly a high point of activity in my life, but I guess that's a compliment to me AND an insult to you. So, cool.

I hate Jeff Berlin. I can't believe he's so revered at TalkBass.

burtonbassist_102 11-05-2010 01:26 AM

Yeah but his signature bass is a DEAN.

FunkMetalBass 11-05-2010 03:56 AM

Before I forget, the APC show was F**KING AMAZING!!!

Be jealous that I have another night of awesomeness ahead!

Convectuoso 11-05-2010 03:59 PM

I hate you Joe. I really hate you a lot right now.

I'll let you know how the Thirteenth Step show goes. :)

Last night, after finishing Mer De Noms, they played their The Cure medley, "Ashes to Ashes", and then "Imagine". I'm excited to hear tonight.

By the way, send me your damn email address so that I can send you this track.

Convectuoso 11-05-2010 10:59 PM

joelhalford at windows live dot com@!!!! Sorry thought you had it!

Convectuoso 11-05-2010 11:01 PM

Holy crap. In my 5-6 years on MX I never new about the ALT+S function until today.

Well CTRL+S in my Mac's case, but either way, I'm never hitting post quick reply witn my mouse every again.

 By reflex I almost did to send this post.
joelhalford at windows live dot com@!!!! Sorry thought you had it!
I used to, but after clearing my inbox, I losted it. :(

APC was great again tonight. They were even more spot-on during the entire performance. They re-worked "The Nurse Who Loved Me" and made it a bit heavier. It was definitely nice to hear, and, IMO, fit into the album's overall sound moreso than the original. They closed out, again, with "Imagine," so that was kind of disappointing, especially after the 3-song encore we got last night.

I'm now kicking myself for not getting tickets to tomorrow night's show as well. Maynard said they'd never played one of their albums live, and I'm fairly sure it's eMOTIVe, so it'd be sweet to see the absolute first-ever performance of most of those songs (especially "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums).

I went to the show dressed like Maynard from this video (except I don't have the long hair, so I just shaved myself a mohawk). But I got the tight girl pants, "I <3 Brad Wilk" tank top, boots, and glasses frames

haha nice, your a lucky man to see two of those concerts, i would feel too bad about the third one.

FunkMetalBass 11-06-2010 03:20 PM

The problem is, at $40 a ticket (after "convenience charges", of course), I just couldn't justify the price to go see all three.

A guy I know, and I'm not kidding, because this isn't funny, is seeing U2 at every major city in Australia plus all their shows in NZ while they're here.

It's not funny, it's just sad. He's basically following the pricks around the whole fucking country and then over the ditch for a total of 10 concerts.

10 concerts.

Of U2.

10.

U2.

I can't stress this enough.

Spaceman Spiff 11-07-2010 01:40 AM

Hey all, here's a video from our show last night. It's a new song that's going to be on an EP that we're going to be recording soon. Would love some feedback/comments.

Capital H - I've Been Locked In A Box And Shot Into The Sun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTdUjdsmEfc

The show went really well. The place was pretty full and we got some great comments from people after our set about how much they enjoyed it and our music. It was a wicked night.

burtonbassist_102 11-07-2010 02:03 AM

I might have enjoyed it more if the sound quality was better. It was kind of hard to figure out exactly what was going on.

Now you know how I feel.

Sablate McNuff 11-07-2010 11:59 AM

Sweetness. I've almost got the 5.1 surround sound set up in my bedroom. I just have one last speaker to mount. I also soldered up a switch last night that will allow me to use the speakers for home theater or my computer monitors. Sweeet.

Also, I found that I have an old Quattro USB interface and a mic preamp, so I'm still able to record if I want.

fatbandit 11-07-2010 04:28 PM

my ex keeps trying to be friends with me, then schizing out every now and then, deleting my number, defriending me on facebook and all that shit, and blaming me for ruining her life, then asking if i even want to be friends anymore. after i've done nothing to prompt it. it's really tempting just to say no and tell her to fuck off, seeing as she does this every month or two and it really pisses me off.

+1 She's doing it just to get under your skin to see if you still have feelings for her because she's batsh*t crazy like all women.

Holy sh*t, I missed that the first time around. Sneaky sneaky.

FunkMetalBass 11-08-2010 03:04 PM

In other news, my pickup will be here sometime this week. W00t! Tomorrow, I'm going to do the preliminary routing and sand down the body a bit more. I also have to stand down all of the sloppy spraying on the maple fretboard (drat) and probably go over it once more with some #0000 grit steel wool.

The Brice is at a standstill for a little while longer as I haven't decided what image to put at the 12th fret.

That was why we were having the discussion regarding insert-off-here-offs!

*boom*

ps which bass is the pickup going into?

It's going into a Squier P-bass that my girlfriend is going to paint for me. If the special humbucker turns out to work decently, I'll order a new P-pickup with the huge poles (like delano: http://delano.de/uploads/tx_smtdelano/pmvc4al.jpg) and try to get a slightly more aggressive sound from it.

ScorpSath 11-09-2010 01:45 AM

sup yall, how bout them frosted flakes

ScorpSath 11-09-2010 01:47 AM

gaslight 11-09-2010 01:49 AM

Fatbandit, ignore her bullshit, she's probably just pregnant or something.

ScorpSath, honestly, Kellogg's Frosties are one my favourite breakfast cereals.

The great taste of Kellogg's Frosties... brings out the tiger in you, yeah! [Circa 1990 Singapore TV commercial].

FunkMetalBass 11-09-2010 09:00 AM

Frosties? You mean Frosted Flakes?

Let me learn you something:

FunkMetalBass 11-09-2010 10:23 AM

Goddamn Aussies, changing brand names n shit.

gaslight 11-09-2010 10:34 AM

I think America is the only country that actually has them as Frosted Flakes.

This is indeed a disturbing universe.

FlamingCouch 11-09-2010 10:57 AM

Probably North America as a whole... here in Cananada we have Frosted Flakes as well.

Now if I see word of 'Shreddies' referred to as 'Cosmopolitan Shredded Wheat Breakfast Squares' or something overseas... well hot damn I think I'll have to go on a killing spree.
