Been listening to Nebula all day :)

Bartender 03-26-2006 07:38 AM
Right now I am listening to Boy Hits Car by Boy Hits Car. It's a pretty neat album; lots of Indian influence in an otherwise normal-sounding post-hardcore/something else album.
That's a good album.

ATM 03-26-2006 11:26 AM

I'd like to hear those guys.

JonM 03-26-2006 11:38 AM

Boy Hits Car! I've got that album, and I've got one of their early local ones too! It's called My Animal, and though some of the songs appeared later on the s/t, the versions are much different, and the other material definitely makes it worth having. If you'd like it, holla at a playa.

ATM 03-26-2006 11:47 AM

Yea, for some reason I did too. Pop punk or nu metal.

sketchyjoe 03-26-2006 12:06 PM

The Grit - I Came Out the Womb an Angry Cunt
Punk 'n' Fuck 'n' Roll. I picked this up when I saw them last night.

Daniel! 03-26-2006 01:06 PM

Meat Puppets - Meat Puppets II
Meat Puppets - Up On the Sun

I'm really starting to like these albums.

Matt? 03-26-2006 01:07 PM

up on the sun is maybe my favorite meatpuppets song

that album has a lot of filler sounding tracks though

Zebra 03-26-2006 01:14 PM

Frank Zappa - Sheik Yerbouti!

Daniel! 03-26-2006 01:34 PM
that album has a lot of filler sounding tracks though
For me, not a single song is boring on either of those albums.

Interstate 03-26-2006 03:39 PM

Circle Takes The Square - S/T
Fugazi - 13 Songs
The Dismemberment Plan - The Ice Of Boston EP

JonM 03-26-2006 03:53 PM
whoa this is surprising. I always thought they were a nu-metal band or something.
Similar volume level. That's about all they had in common with the nü metal people, although sometimes their lyrics are a tad too angsty, but they're way, way more interesting than the bands they shared radio playlists with for the five minutes they got airplay.

YDload 03-26-2006 06:09 PM

The first time I heard Boy Hits Car, I thought their sound was really unique. That's because they were probably the first post-hardcore band of that style I'd ever heard. Then a band called Boysetsfire came out and they sort of dominated the "Boy-" band scene instead. Argh!

anyway, I've been listening to Bear Vs. Shark's Right Now You're In The Best Of Hands... a whole lot. It's really neat, like ATDI if they weren't so frantic all the time.

Kurtz 03-26-2006 07:17 PM

Rancid

Might have become one of my favorite bands literally overnight.

pixiesfanyo 03-26-2006 07:19 PM
Rancid

Might have become one of my favorite bands literally overnight.
How?

sketchyjoe 03-26-2006 08:50 PM

Bread and Rose - Bread and Roses
Sweet folk-punk. The song Bedtime for Plutocracy is one of my favourites ever but the rest of the album's great too. I need to get their split with Mischief Brew.

pixiesfanyo 03-26-2006 09:21 PM

Toby Driver - In the L..L..Library Loft
Set Fire to Flames - Sings Reign Rebuilder

Yes. Noise rocks.

JonM 03-26-2006 09:24 PM

WTF, last.fm??

I'm digging all my post-rock again. It's been a while.

Zappa 03-26-2006 09:39 PM

I've never listened to Belle & Sebastian. I downloaded their new one cause I felt like I should get hearing what's being released this year. I'm also getting that Anathallo record.

This Belle & Sebastian is kind of neat. A little over-produced, maybe?

YDload 03-26-2006 10:00 PM

Bob Dylan- Desire

Oh Hurricane, you poor guy :(

Daniel! 03-26-2006 11:20 PM

I've been digging all things Meat Puppets.
Bread and Rose - Bread and Roses
Sweet folk-punk. The song Bedtime for Plutocracy is one of my favourites ever but the rest of the album's great too. I need to get their split with Mischief Brew.
When did that split come out?

ATM 03-26-2006 11:26 PM

This Botch album from the mailing list is nice as hell.

Robert Crumb 03-27-2006 12:48 AM

Murs' Murray's Revenge was my main diggage for the past week. It's ok, not near as solid as 3:16 was. But I love Murs. He's probably among my top 5 currently active in-their-prime MCs. He's so perfectly... West Coast.

Today, I also listened to Eric Dolphy's Out to Lunch. I need more Dolphy, I think that's the only solution to that. Also dug an album by a band called Gutbucket. They play jazz-inspired heavy music, I suppose. They've got some really nice numbers.

YDload 03-27-2006 12:55 AM

Have you ever heard their song "The Fan and the Bellows?" I think it's just on a B-side or something but it's the only song I've heard of theirs and it's pretty cool.

Tangy zizzle 03-27-2006 02:12 AM

Howe Gelb's (Giant Sand, whatever) is pretty damm sweet. The premise seems a little tired, but he pulls of it nicely. It's one of my favourote's of ze burgeoning year. Yessssssssss

br3ad_man 03-27-2006 03:10 AM

I was feeling pretty bad before so I listened to The Cure, Bob Dylan and Death Cab For Cutie. Now I'm listening to The Dillinger Escape Plan.

br3ad_man 03-27-2006 04:50 AM

The Replacements - Let it Be

I have never gotten sick of this album. It's so good.

sketchyjoe 03-27-2006 06:20 AM
I've been digging all things Meat Puppets.

When did that split come out?
Quite recently on Fistolo.

Zebra 03-27-2006 08:14 AM

Aphex Twin - Richard D. James

I love 4, and Milkman. Those are probably my favorite tracks.

Iai 03-27-2006 09:22 AM

Neil Young - After The Gold Rush

I find it a little odd that this album doesn't get mentioned too much here.

Tomahawk 03-27-2006 09:38 AM

I think that's his second best album. "Don't Let it Bring You Down" is one of my favourite Neil songs.

Today I've been re-digging the Smiths, after not listening to them for a long time. I had the radio on, they did an overview of their discography, with a couple songs off each album... made me remember how damn solid they were. So yeah. Listening mainly to Meat is Murder and The World Won't Listen, because I've never given much attention to those ones.

YDload 03-27-2006 10:30 AM

I'm listening to Entroducing right now. It's not as exciting as I thought it would be, very relaxing. I guess that's good too, just not what I had expected.

The Jungler 03-27-2006 10:58 AM

I've been listening to alot of Blur lately, I don't know why I haven't before.

CSD & the Soul Machines 03-27-2006 12:07 PM

Finally getting into the John Spencer Blues Explosion.

morrissey 03-27-2006 12:47 PM

Britney Spears.

Bukowski 03-27-2006 01:19 PM

The Replacements - Let it Be
The Replacements - Tim

I'm finding it hard to listen to anything else, i just keep going back to these. The only song on any of these albums i'm not fond of is Answering Machine, which i find quite irritating. The songwriting on both albums is amazing. I can't believe i didn't realise how great the Replacements are before now.

Interstate 03-27-2006 01:20 PM

Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans
Super Furry Animals - Radiator
These Arms Are Snakes - This Is Meant To Hurt You EP

morrissey 03-27-2006 01:32 PM
Durutti Column
Nice I've been calling Vini Reilly the experimental Johnny Marr for a while now. The Return of the Durutti Column is such an awesome album.
stuff
Nice, is that from Now That's What I Call Quite Good? I love all the Kiwi references.
120 copies were sold in New Zealand.

The single sold a staggering 450 copies in New Zealand.

Some described it as a Christmas sell-out. It sold 150 copies in New Zealand
And best of all:
This song was hotly tipped as a single until we discovered no-one liked it.

edit: and I love the picture of Hugh, such a handsome devil

morrissey 03-27-2006 01:36 PM
Yes, anything with Kiwi references sets off my radar.

I'm still yet to be convinced by Talking Heads. Everything I've heard is inoffensive but nevertheless unmoving.
Damn, that pains me. What have you heard so far?

Nacho, SOP is indeed a manboy.

Bukowski 03-27-2006 02:03 PM

Ok ok i'm re-listening to Answering Machine in an attempt to discover it's greatness. It's a pretty good song i guess, it gets annoying at the end for me. The lyrics are my favorite thing about the song. It doesn't touch Androgynous in my opinion though, but maybe it'll grow on me since it seems every song on this album just gets better and better every time i listen.
