Classic rock lives
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
I have started to notice a few people around my school who are into classic rock. Not near enough people but whatever. Classic rock is the best. Back then people in bands actually had talent. I don't like this cheesy punk stuff where the guitarist knows 3 power chords and has a band. And I hate rap. It's not even really music.
I love bands like:
Van Halen (Eddie Van Halen is the best guitarist ever born)
AC/DC (Angus Young rocks the blues like no one else)
Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page is amazing)
Guns N' Roses (Slash freakin' rocks)

Seafroggys 10-15-2004 06:51 PM
Are they any bands in particular? If so we may be able to give you some album suggestions.
Right now I'm in a Tull and Deep Purple phase. So it looks like for b-day and x-mas I'll be getting some of that stuff.

If I had money, I wouldn't be buying CDs, I'd be buying cymbals :D

There are lots of bands these days with talent.

And rap is music, if you're going to come in here to badmouth other genres, don't. We're all pretty open minded here and don't appreciate needless flaming.

Otherwise, welcome.

RockAndRoll 10-15-2004 07:05 PM

I know I've said this before but Van halen really bore me. And yes bands do still have talent, though not all of them.

Paranoidd 10-15-2004 07:09 PM

Well yeah, of course.

But people make it seem like there were no bad bands in the 60's or 70's...it's really funny. They had pop back then too. The only thing is, those bands do not endure the test of time, and are forgotten about, as todays cheesy pop acts will be forgotten in the future.

Never forget that.

I agree. Although I do think musically it was a very very good period.

There are bands from that time period I don't like, the first to pop into my mind is always the carpenters.

Stevie_P 10-15-2004 07:26 PM

there s few ppl in my school who liek classic rock but they only know liek back in black thunderstrucka nd stairway and then go on thinking that stuff liek nirvana is classic?

jpj 10-15-2004 08:15 PM

And to SeaFroggys get Aqualung and Thick as a Brick if you don't already have them.

gmoneyguy 10-15-2004 08:43 PM

I'm wondering if those "lieks" are on purpose.

BludgeonySteve 10-15-2004 09:29 PM

My mom's going to get Bob Dylan's autobiography type thing. And then i can read it after she does :)

Dangit she's such a slow reader though.

I wonder if he has been to an English class ever.

BludgeonySteve 10-15-2004 09:37 PM

Dangit. I like Black Sabbath. But it looks like they could win the contest thingy. And we can't have that because they're more metal than anything else.

Who was the idiot who said to put them in anyway?

Dark Hero 10-15-2004 09:39 PM
I'm thinking about buying a Yes CD, any suggestions guys?
Get R.E.M. - Automatic for the People, it's not classic rock but it's still really good.

BludgeonySteve 10-15-2004 09:40 PM

Umm, sooooo is R.E.M Yes now or something?

(that's a great album by the way)

There was going to be a problem either way. Without them and Zeppelin tons of people would be like "OmGZ U 4gOT BLAk SaBAAth!!! U suck!!"

But when we put them in, now everyone is going to vote for them.

BludgeonySteve 10-15-2004 09:43 PM

I would have just said that they're metal . Classic metal with a blues influence and not really metal but hard rock...

Still i'm a little pissed.

Woodstock 10-15-2004 09:43 PM

I voted for Sabbath :upset:

BludgeonySteve 10-15-2004 09:44 PM

I'm ****ing putting them in with Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Who in the second round.

Woodstock 10-15-2004 09:45 PM

Wait, Zeppelin, Floyd, and The Who will all be in the same round?

BludgeonySteve 10-15-2004 09:46 PM

I was kidding.

Still, they can't win.

lunch998 10-15-2004 09:47 PM
I'm ****ing putting them in with Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Who in the second round.
That will be really interesting, but then you might have a weaker band go farther due to the absense of one of those awesome bands in their group.

Your changing the competition so that you can see your favorite bands succeed. Faulty!!

Edit: Turns out you were kidding. So nevermind.

RockAndRoll 10-15-2004 09:48 PM

well lets see....

R.E.M = Good
Yes = Good
now if we substitute...
R.E.M = Yes

You can only find quality math like that here in the CR thread.
