I just went for an hour long run up and down some hills. I haven't done any running for about 7 months, so I'm totally gonna feel it in the morning :(
I went to my first Krav Maga class last Thursday, I'm only just today feeling no aches from it. Probably didn't help I worked all weekend, but more to the point is that I haven't exercised in a loooong time.

Oooh, I so badly want to take Krav Maga classes. That shit is so badass.

It was pretty full on, a tough workout as well. It's a combination of aerobic and anaerobic so if you can do it without getting screwed then... yeah it can't really be done. Even the older guys who were legitimate professional fighters were getting wrecked towards the end.

Spaceman Spiff 10-18-2010 08:34 PM

Yeah, it's incredibly intense... not that I would know from experience, but from what I've seen of it. It's seem like the best martial art to be experienced with as far as defending yourself from any possible random attackers.

funkyhoney 10-18-2010 08:45 PM

It's not really a martial art, that's why I like it mostly. None of this uniform and bowing and honour crap. It's about preparing you for potential real life situations. It's also got a lot about mindset rather than just learning a barrage of attacks that you'll probably forget as soon as you're stressed.

I don't ever wanna feeeeeeeel.

Like I did that day...

Take me to the place I loooooove.

Take me all the way...

HELLonWHEELS 10-19-2010 12:33 AM

So i completely forgot about this website until today. Hi guys.

gaslight 10-19-2010 02:25 AM

Krav Maga is awesome for sure. Israelis are the last people you want to fuck with.

Sablate McNuff 10-19-2010 08:00 AM

I fell asleep putting the finishing touches on my programming project, woke up at 2am after it was 2 hours late, submitted it, forgot to set my alarm for 5am, and woke up again just now (at 7am) without having gotten any of my other homework done. F**k it all.

gaslight 10-19-2010 08:05 AM

Microwaved my donut for too long and dried it out too much, I know how you feel.

Sablate McNuff 10-19-2010 08:44 AM
Microwaved my donut for too long and dried it out too much, I know how you feel.
F**k, that's even worse. How do you live with yourself, gaslight?

Btw, what's your real name? If you don't tell me, I will have no choice but to refer to you as "Mr. Long Beard Stinky Pants."

gaslight 10-19-2010 08:46 AM

My name is Matt and my facial hair and odour are appropriate and attractive.

fatbandit 10-19-2010 09:56 AM

Urk. One of the receptionists at a company I deliver mail to has decided she likes me. So she asked for my name so she could find me on facebook before I found out the reason. She's really not that great though, but she might turn out to be a little bit of a facebook stalker and it's totally awkward seeing as I'll have to see her everyday at work -_-

FunkMetalBass 10-19-2010 10:35 AM

Just show up one day with an attractive woman (supermodel with an exotic name, if you can swing it). Introduce her to the receptionist on "take your significant other to work day."*

*a fictitious day that will aid you in scaring the receptionist off.

Spaceman Spiff 10-19-2010 10:57 AM

Or tell her that you're gay.

fatbandit 10-19-2010 11:00 AM

I just need to ask coffee shop girl out instead, then everything will be fine.

FunkMetalBass 10-19-2010 11:15 AM

Ask the coffee shop girl out right in front of the receptionist. Win-win.

fatbandit 10-19-2010 11:33 AM

The planning involved for this hurts my head. I'm also not that harsh, although I love the idea :P

FunkMetalBass 10-19-2010 11:50 AM

Another technique I've used is to use ice to shrink the size of my member, and then to show it to the stalking party. If they see you're packing half a roll of Mentos, the attraction and potential lust is lost.

fatbandit 10-19-2010 12:23 PM

+ 10 imaginary rep.

fatbandit 10-19-2010 03:47 PM

I'm totally buzzing off Glassjaw again. Seeing some recent live stuff on Youtube, I can't wait for the EP or LP... It HAS to be coming out soon! Full band version of the Secret Song on EYEWTKAS? Yes please. I know it was arranged specifically for the show they played it at, but I would massively dig a studio version of that.

I'm really not keen on Durijah Lang though :/

Sorry, I don't think anyone except Joel even likes GJ that much :p

funkyhoney 10-19-2010 07:55 PM

In all seriousness, anyone want to buy my 6er?

No one else has good taste in music.

I'm still not sure I wanted to buy my sixer.

BenJammin 10-20-2010 05:32 AM

6er 4 lyfe

I awkwardly fumble around a 4 string now. Not that I've picked one up in probably over a year, at least.

gaslight 10-20-2010 05:34 AM

So I was bored and looking at my keyboard, and I wonder, if they had geek themed martial arts, would there be a submission hold called the Num Lk?

FunkMetalBass 10-20-2010 07:51 AM

This. If I don't slap on it, I almost feel lost. Once my Brice 6er is back up as my fretless, I will have no use for my Jazz unless I play with a group that specifically requires a fender-style instrument.

Convectuoso 10-20-2010 01:42 PM

The thing with sixers for me is that in a band context, I will never ever need to go higher than the highest note I can get on a G string. Ever. Even as a positioning thing, I'd rather just go up there than deal with extra weight on an already heavy instrument.

Then, for the lows I actually see the benefits of having a C an octave below A string 3rd fret. But other than that, most speakers can't even reproduce those low notes properly and four strings provide adequate lows to fill out that spectrum of a band anyways.

If you're doing solo stuff or prog crazy shit maybe, but even then man, leave the soloing to guitarists :p

I like to play awesome non-muddy chords behind the guitarist. I use my C-string for a lot of harmonics too. One time, we also had a 4-octave run of a B harmonic minor. 6-strings made life really nice.

BenJammin 10-20-2010 03:55 PM

Several of our songs I play chords or melodies or things which require the higher notes. Maybe not *require* but it sure makes for more comfortable positioning and nicer tone. But I could cut my C string off before you could make me part with my B.

This.

I even keep one of my 4-strings tuned BEAD solely because the low B is the most necessary string in existence.

fatbandit 10-20-2010 04:52 PM

I've been having a lot of joy tuning my bass to DGCF recently, it's been massively handy for two covers projects I've been doing.

As for the high C... I use the C and the F above it too. I don't do anything crazy proggy, no solos, and I don't really use it for positional stuff (it normally feels better playing that kind of stuff further up the neck for me anyway).

But listening to Glassjaw just makes me want to grind away on the low D string :(

Jeez, this is so easy. Just tell her you're a serial killer!

and then if she says she gets off on killers.... well, kill her.

Win.

FlamingCouch 10-20-2010 06:42 PM

and seeing as I never talk about bass, and I'm in the bass forum...

It seems every time I play my Jazz lately I find myself loving the tone but feeling like the neck is too thick. Trouble? Tell me about it. those necks are fairly thin to begin with and I'm finding myself worn out in twenty minutes. I've been playing my Spector a lot again lately though and am finding the neck wicked comfortable. Of course I'm now debating whether or not to keep it for sale.

Joe you asked a billion years ago (I think it was you?) about pictures of it...
