Tryxx 01-27-2010 10:08 PM

Holy ****. I just tried typing in "musicianforums" to get here. What the hell ***?

Tryxx 01-27-2010 10:24 PM

I just listened to Continuum for the first time in years. My how my tastes have changed... Sure, there's some part of me that will always respect what the virtuosos of this instrument have done to provide different roles to bass players in music... but ****. Really? I listened to this? I think the elitist in me always just pretended to enjoy it, or something.

Tryxx 01-27-2010 10:26 PM

I'm still not pass out drunk yet. Somebody needs to post with me. (Please let it be someone interesting.)

Tryxx 01-27-2010 10:29 PM

So, I design Coldfusion based webpages and whatnot now days. It's cool and stuff - makes me really hate having to hard code HTML crap again.

...I don't even have a domain? Why am I coding?

Tryxx 01-27-2010 10:37 PM

I find it ironic that Gaslight has the most post in this thread when he's active during the slowest possible traffic of the day.

FunkMetalBass 01-27-2010 11:27 PM

Tryxxx, you wanna go?
I can take you.
Where you been, dawg?

fatbandit 01-28-2010 10:43 AM

Yeah, dude. No problem. Josh said he emailed you yesterday....did you get it? Are you guys working out the shipping?

FunkMetalBass 01-28-2010 11:52 AM

Re-recorded my vocals last night with an SM-58 instead of my Oktavia MK-319. It sounds infinitely better because there is more of a bass/low-mid response, so it doesn't remind me of somebody stepping on my balls.. My recording guy suggested that I consider a Beta-58A for just a little bit more low end.

On top of that, I adjusted my singing a bit to keep the intensity with less force applied, so I was able to re-record all of the vocals. My throat was a little sore in the end, so I obviously need to work on my technique a little more and toughen up the throat muscles, but I'm much happier with the way it sounds now.

Cramboli 01-28-2010 12:41 PM

Me too. We can have 3 bassists.

FunkMetalBass 01-28-2010 02:16 PM

Sweet. Guy on Craigslist is selling a broken Ampeg BA500 amp. The speakers and box apparently were damaged, but the head part works. He says it's crackly, and I'm thinking it's just because he's trying to power extension speakers and this amp was notorious for having a crackly extension speaker outs & DI outs.

He only wants $60 for it, so I'm going to get it and build a new box as originally intended. :) Yay

I'm going to build a 1x12 & slightly modify a Bill Fitzmaurice cab to house it.

Spaceman Spiff 01-28-2010 02:18 PM

Cool stuff.

I've started watching Weeds from the beginning. I'm almost through the first season and I'm really liking it.

Ok, then we'll let Chris do bass, I can provide some rhythm guitar and potentially do vox (I'll send you our mixed song when our recording dude is done with the first mix), and you can do the rest. Sounds sweet.

Yes, I can record at home. I actually did all of my bass recordings at home.

You've complained, multiple times, about the terrible recording quality, so I figured I'd get you a better mix so you can stfu about it. :p

I love my tone, but my strings are dead right now, so it's kind of dull. I need to find that new pack of strings that I bought so that I can clean the old ones.

FunkMetalBass 01-28-2010 07:52 PM

Joel, what's your email address?

'sup FMB

you seem lonely

FunkMetalBass 01-29-2010 08:56 AM

I am a bit lonely, dudesy. My roommate works nights now, so I don't get to see him or jam with him anymore; my girlfriend lives 2 hours away for school, so I only get her on weekends; and MX is dead.

How's your band doin', holmes?

gaslight 01-29-2010 09:52 AM

Sounds like a drag man.

My band that's doing an album at the moment is okay, looking for a new drummer at the same time as our vocal tracks are getting done and then I'm really looking forward to long days of mixing and unhealthy snacking.

Other than just jammin' with buddies to try and keep some chops up. I didn't realise how good for my playing doing three rehearsals with that band was a week until we stopped doing it during album/loss of drummer time and really felt my endurance slacken up and all that. Scary / mildly annoying.

I'm thinking of transcribing all my bass parts from it in the meantime for practise and to punish me by making my face up to every little mistake or less than ideal part.

I need to start transcribing my basslines. I have this horrific habit of improvising everything when I play under chords (it's the jazz bassist in me), so if I can just write something I'm particularly proud of, I'll learn it and set it in stone. Plus, they'll be all written out so that fake books can just pay me the money for my bassline tabs instead of spending thousands for some dude to transcribe it.

Gassy, what's your email address?

gaslight 01-29-2010 10:06 AM

Haha exactly man, half my style is improvisational though and I do like it. I sort of set the main parts in stone and then do whatever I feel around the rest.
