Whiskey in the Jar:
Metallica > Thin Lizzie by a long way The Thin Lizzie version is actually quite horrible Thats the only one I've heard both of. I shall report back my opinions if Diamond Head play any of the songs on Garage Inc, when I see them in February (Supporting Megadeth :D )
yea the thin lizzie is just plain bad |
I think that ride the lighting is the best album of all.
|
dont we all
|
Indeed
I think that ride the lighting is the best album of all.
now this is the part where you explain why |
*nominates S&M above RTL*
|
*denies nomination*
for whom the bell tolls on s&m is crap, but s&m is good |

And really the only originals that I prefer are the Mercyful Fate ones. |
*nominates S&M above RTL*
*seconds the nomination If only they could've managed to keep The Unforgiven and Fade to Black in there. They had to cut them out since they couldn't write decent orchestra parts for it. Still, I think Call of Ktulu and Battery sound infinitesmal amounts better than the originals in this concert. 5 Stars ***** |
amen
can someone suggest more songs from metallica that are decent besides master of puppets fade to black the one enter sandman the unforgivin i know there is more, those are just the ones im familiar with:)
yeah how about nothing else matters, ride the lighting, battery, fight fire with fire, and last but not least traped under ice |
London, 9th Feb
pfft, you and your crazy London shows :p |
We just have to do things that little bit differently here
|
London, 9th Feb
And I second everything Mister_Che says
Yesss, succumb to my hypno ray.... Oh, umm nevermind...Just about every song on S&M was great, although it would've been cool to have the orchestra play more Metallica like what they did with the Battery intro. Imagine how cool it would've been. |
Some parts of S&M were good, like One, Master of Puppets, Nothing Else Matters, No Leaf Clover, Battery, and Fuel. But I think the orchestra overdid it a little bit. Half the time, I can barely here the guitars.
*nominates S&M above RTL*
ooooh thats pushin it *nominates live sh*t over s&m and also nominates rtl over s&m* |

agreed, the orchestra overdid Wolf and Man but i have to agree with VH1, Metallica is the only metal band that had an orchestra and kicked *** EDIT- ass |
Overdoing it they may be - but the original versions of Of Wolf and Man and The Thing That Should Not Be are terrible songs. Not the case with their S&M versions.
Edit: I suppose it depends on how much you like classical music |

S&M was great. Wish they used the symphony for more than a filler though.
|
how should they have been used?
|
how should they have been used?
More atmosphere, more orchestrated parts instead of them just playing the same thing as metallica is all the time. If your going to take that much time to get an orchestra and have them learn all these songs, then at least use them in a better way instead of filler. |
S&M was great. Wish they used the symphony for more than a filler though.
You've gotta be kidding! I thought it really added to every song and just enhanced it. Ah, well, to each his own. |

They defenitely were not playing the same thing all the time. |
yea if you listen to fuel at the end its way different or it in a higher octave

I'll 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th that I love S&M, i dont know why everybody else ive talked to doesnt like it. Its a musical masterpiece in my eyes. I too wish there were some other songs added to the list but its ok. I think where the ochestra stood out the most was on Battery, Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, MoP (especially the slow solo part), and OMG -Human probably has the coolest intro i've ever heard...love that song. |
holy crap, what was it, ~10 pages in 3 days?? This threads on a roll.
But ya, i've been playing guitar for 10 months (6 months with an amp) and these are the 'tallica songs i have gotten down on my guitar with the help of the internet and thats all. I've never taken a single lesson in my life, and i don't plan to. I play with a BC Rich Warlock, and a Marshall amp, so i produce a relativley good sound from it. This is the list. X/4= percentage i've learned. Call of Ktulu 3/4- Solo is very tricky, so i don't count the solo yet. MoP 4/4- Naturally it was the first song i tried to learn. Blackened 3/4- This song is fun to play, but so hard. The solo just makes my hands hurt. Dyers Eve 2/4- No way im getting the solo any time soon. Fade to Black 4/4- Naturally. One 4/4- Easiest song to learn + solo. Welcome Home (Sanatarium) 4/4- relativley easy. Solo has its moments though. Enter Sandman 3/4- I haven't learned solo yet, mainly because i don't have a tremolo bar/whammy Unforgiven 4/4- Oldie but goldie Nothing Else Matters 4/4- Sounds nice. Am I evil 2/4- The songs good, but I never got around to finishing it. For Whom The Bell Tolls 4/4- This song maybe easy, but its the funnest to play. Ride the Lightning 2/4- Lots left to learn from this classic Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) 4/4- I play it on guitar, sounds ok. Fight Fire with Fire 2/4- Never really made an attempt to polish it off or to learn the solo. To Live is to Die 1/4- I'll start soon. I can play very choppy performances of these songs (never perfect, theres always some mistakes, and it pisses the hell out of me) and I'm wondering what else I should learn. I'm still relatively beginner but I want a good sounding song... |
The Memory Remains on S&M sounds definitely better than the original version.
|
to metal militia:
You've never tried the 4 horsemen??? That's my fav 'tallica song to play. Also, Am I Evil is a very easy song, try to finish it :thumb: |
