I have no idea what that means but I assume that it's classical guitar/really complicated.

SugarCoatedSour 04-10-2011 05:48 PM

downstroking with the thumb?

it's a technique that originates from flamenco guitar, involves stroking the strings with the back of your nails in an extensor movements outward one after the other.
working on my triplet rasgueado atm

fucking strumming with the thumb is weird as shit
sexy
downstroking with the thumb?
it's like a spanish thing all strummy and shit

SugarCoatedSour 04-10-2011 05:51 PM

I've had to practice it, and I'm still quite new to it too. Hard for me especially cause my pinky fingers are curved, and I've neglected developing some dexterity in both of them.

Sad But True 04-10-2011 05:55 PM

Going to attempt to get some sleep without prescription assistance. Mainly because I've ran out and haven't changed doctors properly yet. This is my playlist I've made to while away the wee hours.

There's some shit and probably too much Oceansize but if it gets me to sleep YAY.

SugarCoatedSour 04-10-2011 05:56 PM

goo0d night sleeping to all that angst and wirey tension

Modern Iconoclast 04-10-2011 05:58 PM

Listen to Bass Communion, it's fantastic for when you're trying to go to sleep.
I have no idea what that means but I assume that it's classical guitar/really complicated.
i'm doing a piece in a couple of months and one of the sections has a fast 9/8 feel to it but very quiet so i wanna do it with light strumming close to the bridge, the best way i know of to get the sound i want is with a flamenco technique in which you strum up with the thumb, down with the middle finger and down with the thumb again and again and again. i only want to precisely hit three strings every strum very quietly so it's taking a lot of practice, i don't usually use rasgueado techniques in my playing.

Sad But True 04-11-2011 04:06 AM

Good god I've just tried to do that at speed without a guitar and my hand went all lol no on me.

SugarCoatedSour 04-11-2011 05:51 AM

it's a good technique to learn even if only for exercising the extensor muscles

Sad But True 04-12-2011 06:38 PM

Just spent the last day or so mixing real drums for the first time. It's harder with all the mic bleed and stuff but the results are much better.

Blue_Moon 04-13-2011 11:09 AM

now compress the balls off of it

Sad But True 04-13-2011 01:33 PM

Haha, I have sort of, parallel compression is the tits.

Convectuoso 04-13-2011 01:53 PM

Yesh, Mic bleed is horrible. I'd say it's the number 1 reason samples are used.

Blue_Moon 04-13-2011 04:01 PM

gota use the right mics the right ways but theres always bleed

a lot of tracks now have mixed both live and sampled drummies

theres a few plugins out there that can detect the transient points and make the ease of samples a helluva lot easier for drums

i spend weeks on sample drums to try and get them sound half real, ya cant beat the live ones

Sad But True 04-13-2011 05:14 PM

I'm properly winging it. My toms and kick have a sample running at the same time at about 30% mic, and my drummer uses a dedicated set of open hats which is coming through like a bitch on my floor tom track.

Sad But True 04-14-2011 08:47 AM

Would the Lod like to hear a super rough version of one of the tracks?

SugarCoatedSour 04-14-2011 02:18 PM

put up, lets see what you're pitching

Be gentle, there's no vox or layers and only one (shitty) guitar tone because I couldn't be arsed to wait for my singer to track his bits.

SugarCoatedSour 04-14-2011 07:05 PM

I like inclusion of some of the ambient aspects. It's kind of hard but it's not raw enough in terms of the instrumentation, plus it kinda rides the rails a bit. The construction is balanced enough, what I would like to hear is maybe more of a focus to draw the sound out so it's not just like you're setting up the chorus through the verse and on to the next step and so on. Maybe put more focus on the actual introduction of different parts. It would certainly develop some mixing and production technique.

Sad But True 04-15-2011 02:17 AM

I'm still really drowsy from getting up so I didn't really understand that

SugarCoatedSour 04-15-2011 05:05 AM

Yes, and being an LTD it'll be built like a tank, but I dunno, I'm just not digging the played out pointy avec EMG's thing anymore, despite owning a pointy EMG equipped LTD 7 string. I'm really GASing after an S series now, a nice 6 string I can use for home recordings instead of having to move my LP about everywhere.

I quite like the drums, the cymbals could be a bit cleaner and more clear though. The biggest turd here are the guitars in my opinion, they seem to take up everything and doesn't fit that good with the drums. I think you're going to have a rough time fitting vocals in there with that tone. Guitar right in the middle are generally very boring in my opinion, double track them or pan them or add a lot of delay or something to give them some width.

Blue_Moon 04-15-2011 03:08 PM

Kicks a lil funny is there comrpessors on the cymbals? they're a lil wishy, not a bad job though

rides cool, hats aint bad, not soundin that bad

Sad But True 04-15-2011 05:02 PM

Right. The guitar and bass are just something i threw down to see how the drums cope in context should've mentioned that. And the thing with the cymbals/overheads is that the guy who mic'd them got an ass load of bleed off the cymbals from the tom mics so i'm struggling to mix the cymbals. I'm thinking of just sanple replacing the toms entirely.

Al, whats sounding weird with the kick?

Blue_Moon 04-15-2011 05:29 PM

listened on the comp speaks and laptop its just missing that little low end punch thick that hits ya around 80k or so depending on the sound proper meaty stuff, the clickyness of the kick is alright, i dont mind that around the 5k mark maybe narrow the eq curve for the higher kick clicky bit

hats/highends a lil raspy n hissy

i myself hate really clicky clicks but its nothing bad, this is just a bit of me and what i like i guess, i spent 2 weeks on drums for a 3 min song =| im an anal mothatrucker when it comes to em, drum sounds are pretty important they set the track up for it all, especially in a song like that

ride is nice but the cyms yea are a bit out there

Id love an S7 if only they did one with a fixed bridge, and maybe a different colour option to boring black.

I think i will have to wait until July to get that LTD anyway with it bieng a 2011 model, so i might just wait till Music Live to see if there is a Mayones stand.
