Klander Brigade 07-22-2005 05:08 PM

I love Maiden. I'll be checkin them out at Ozzfest Tuesday...show should kick ***

YDload 07-22-2005 09:00 PM

Well, add 22 Acacia Avenue to the list of Maiden songs that exhaust my fingers from playing the whole way through (or just attempting to):

22 Acacia Avenue
The Trooper
To Tame A Land
Phantom of the Opera
Rime of the Ancient Mariner (can't complete this one :()

sigh.
I thought it was pretty good compared to many lists. Rolling Stone magazine doesn't even seem to acknowledge Maiden's existence, for one. Their top 500 albums list had no Iron Maiden at all (or Rush)!
Rolling Stones mag is truly rubbish. But check out this list:

http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_albums-metal.html

Maiden got No. 3,6,7,11,22,39,52 and 54. NOTB and Powerslave are my fav Maiden albums, so I was happy with those ones being up there.
I do think Cowboys from Hell should've been higher. It's nice to see Appetite for Destruction, a Halford album and Painkiller up there.
Talking about Halford, here's a discussion. Do you guys think Bruce Dickinson would take the cake as the greatest metal singer ever? Or Halford? They're both quite awesome.

YDload 07-23-2005 12:50 AM

I think Halford has more range and for that reason, he may be a slightly better singer. But I like the band that Bruce is in a lot more, especially the rhythm section ;)

I've never heard much Halford, but in my opinion, Dickinson is the best singer in the metal world. His voice has a lot of range, but it's also got a LOT of power to back it up.

I agree with YDload.

Anyway my band is gonna cover The Trooper in drop c. The song is actually in c so it'll sound the same just the verse and prechorus will be alot heavier.

The Trooper isn't in any one key. It's more like the classic E-D-C progression that Maiden is known for. Or however "Paranoid" goes because there are a lot of similarities there.
