Good point, but I let that song slide since it's a cover.
And another thing that confuses me, it's a "bonus track", yet I have never seen the album WITHOUT it, so it's not a bonus it's just part of the album. |

Other parts of the world got different cover songs instead of Hellion. I think it's an NA track only. |
I rank them in order they were released. Maybe swap Hatebreeder and Follow The Reaper.
|
Ah, okay Ben.
I agree with Jono, except switch Something Wild with FTR. |
I snagged a warmen album.... Good stuff.
|
Which album?
|
Which album?
Accept The Fact. |
No, it doesn't matter, I will figure it out sometime...
do you browse with IE or with Mozilla... try Mozilla; i made the homepage for Mozilla and it works. i even don't know how the homepage looks like with Internet Explorer. |
In fear of getting torn apart in the black metal thread I figured I would post this here...
Why is Dimmu Borgir not Black Metal? I have heard their first two albums were, and all I have heard is Death Cult Armageddon. For the most part it sounds like a black metal album, the vocals are similar to Abbath's of Immortal becuase they both sound like frogs croaking :p and the guitar riffs seem to have that black metal simplicity to them. The keyboards are pretty symphonic which a lot of people complain about, but the overall sound is basically just Emporer with good production. I don't really see what isn't Black Metal about it. Btw I really do like the album, I think Dimmu could score a movie... |

Could you upload it?/E-mail it Did you all see that gay conversation in the A7X thread about who is better Gates or Laiho? |
Probably started by Arucard, comin in here trying to fill our heads with lies.
|
some weeks ago i said dimmu borgir is black and a friend who is a big fan told me they are death... since then i'm confused, like you
|
Death? That's just an ignorant comment, they aren't death metal at all. There isn't much symphonic death metal, if any, the vocals aren't death, the guitar isn't death, I don't see what's death metal about it. Show him some Arch Enemy or something for what melodic death metal would be, it's certainly not Dimmu Borgir.

Yea I was really suprised that he came in here and did that. He usually has respect for other bands. |

i know... i was surprised that he said they are death. for me they are definetly Black Metal. The only thing is that this guy know what metal is, he listens to a lot of bands and therefore i always thought his knowledge about metal is bigger than mine. |

As far as I can tell they are one of the best Black Metal bands out there these days. Alot of newer Black Metal bands have grew from Dimmu. Death Cult isn't their best though... the Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia album is absolutely amazing. Anyone who does not have it I highly suggest getting it. P.S. they did score a movie hahaha. Okay, not a movie entirely, just a concert. They have a DVD thing out that contains two DVD's and a live CD... which I own, and it is amazing. |
I'll definately check out that album
Reading the reviews on Metal Archives someone said suttin like, this is metal, not Lord of the Rings. I thought that was a dumb comment becuase the "lord of the rings" keyboards are what makes it so insanely cool, plus metal is veyr closely related to classical and orchestral music. |
Dimmu Borgir isn't black metal because they aren't (for lack of a better term) "tr00" enough. The ignorant people will balk at any keyboards in black metal, and immediately claim it fake.
I personally don't think their newer stuff is black metal though...it sounds a lot different, and not just because of the keys. The riffs are uncharacteristic of BM. |
so what are they?
|
I've not listened to them too much but from what I have heard I would really only classify them as Black Metal.
here is another of my random thoughts...I've been thinking it alot as of late. I think metal (at this point in time) has some of the greatest musicians in the world. What would you all say about that? |

If Dimmu isn't Black Metal then for lack of a better term they are Extreme Symphonic Metal, although I don't liek that label because it is jsut a genre prefix and suffix put together, with no real genre in the middle. I think the whole "tr00" thing is stupid becuase just becuase it isn't "tr00" Black Metal doesn't mean it's not Black Metal at all. If it happens to be well produced Symphonic Black Metal such as Dimmu, then it is still Black Metal nonetheless, tr00 or not.

Warmen is AWESOME. I love Accept the Fact, but unfourtunately that's the only album I own by them. |
Maybe the best way to classify a band is by they're name.
Dimmu Borgir...I mean that says it all. Children of Bodom...that says it all. But then again if you haven't heard them before you would need a way to genre-ize them...so I guess we are screwed either way. |
/agrees with Britton.
/agrees with Britton.
Hey man you are doing a great job with that mailing list. What are you planing on sending out this week. I might be able to help with some of it. |
I'm not sure...
What do you think I should do? |
Have you done any Bodom?
|
Send out some more Dimmu for me, I'd love Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, or see what their early stuff is like, such as Stormblast.
A band's name can be misleading, for example Bodom. If you know anything about the Bodom incident, Power Metal is certainly not the first thing that would come to mind, while Death Metal would be more appropriate. Bodom happens to not be Death Metal at all. Dimmu Borgir I would think Black Metal just becuase any kind of phrase in another language like that usually means it's from some Scandinavian country, and you know how all those Black Metal bands love to speak in non-english languages. |
Could you do Hatebreeder? It's the only COB album I don't have. I only have 3 songs off of it.
