Try Limewire or somthing....

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 07:27 PM

Moses, ease up on the spammy posts. :p

NP: type of things, goodbyes, etc...Just a heads up so a mod doesn't get to you first.

Anyways, Patient, can you play Ticks & Leeches, too? I think we're trying to put that one together.

Moses 06-25-2005 07:30 PM

Sorry, I can't help it. MX is really slow and boring and I just have to. Besides those NP things were to start up some discussion.

ThePatient 06-25-2005 07:31 PM

Never tried, but I don't see why not. I'll look into it later tonight or tommorow when I can play.

BlindWriting 06-25-2005 07:35 PM

John Williams is great. He's never written a bad score.
I got to meet him after seeing a concert of his. Really really nice guy.

whatduffhuck7 06-25-2005 07:39 PM

anybody else in here a big fan of Katatonia? i love em. they remind alot of opeth, and them and opeth are good friends (so ive herd). opeth is how i found out about this band. and i love em.

Moses 06-25-2005 07:41 PM

Hey, everyone should check out my Limp Bizkit thread. There's a progressive 16:28 min. song in there that Tool fans might appreciate.

I love Katatonia. I've listened to them quite a lot lately. I just really like the atmosphere they create.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 07:46 PM

Are they anything like Porcupine Tree?

You may think it's random, but from what I've gathered, they sound like they may be like PT. The tipoffs were 'friends of Opeth' and 'atmosphere.' 2 things both bands share, apparently.

Kage 06-25-2005 07:47 PM

No they're a lot different from PT, actually.

I'll upload some songs.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 07:59 PM

Oh, hey, by the way Kage- I DLed 2 of the the 3 Isis songs that you uploaded for me a couple weeks ago. I didn't find them quite as good as everyone makes them seem. In Fiction was the better of the 2 (Catalyst was the other) but I still found it very slow, and it just seemed to drag on. I felt as if I was anticipating something that wasn't going to come...Same thing with Catalyst. Couple powerchords, some feedback, and a few growls. :-/ Maybe I just need to give the songs a few more listens.

 This thread has become the community thread, and the community thread has become the Tool thread. Interesting.

EDIT: I forgot to celebrate 4k! :upset:

I'm listening to In Fiction again. The section from about 4 minutes to the end reminds me a lot of the Aussie band Cog. Pretty much everything but the vocals sounds extremely remeniscient of the band. The song is growing on me...Which album of thier's would you reccomend me? I hear a lot about Panapticon or something. Is that one good?

45% on the DL of Criminals. :-/ :mollasses:

Kage 06-25-2005 08:05 PM

Isis is my least favorite of that breed of band. Personally, I like the slow, droning, building sound. Even if there is no reward.

Here's a song from a band called Pelican, which is similar, but in my opinion better. Also, they are instrumental:

Mouth of the Architect is an amazing band in my opinion. More atmospheric, but still droning and heavy. I just love that style for some reason:

I would say Panopticon, yes, but Oceanic is also very good. Panopticon is going to be more dynamic, but Oceanic is heavier.

Ugh...you're on dial up tonight, eh?

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 08:15 PM

Ok, I've given Catalyst another listen, and I have concluded that it sounds a lot like Slipknot, but slower. :p The vocals are double trackedin places, which makes for some interesting harmonies, if you will. Other than that, I'd say I'm fonder of In Fiction.

I'll download those other 4 songs tonight some time. 5 more percents and the song will be done!

Dude, I'm always on dialup!

Criminals was a pretty good song, though. I liked the simple yet effective guitar effects. Nothing special, but they sounded good one the song.

"It's not like I owe him money"

Kage 06-25-2005 08:20 PM

Hmm.. Slipknot, huh? Can't say I ever saw that connection. In Fiction is a better song than Catalyst...I don't even like Catalyst that much. Like I said, of all the Post-Metal bands I listen to, Isis is my least favorite.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 08:26 PM

It was the first thing I tied it with. Knot's vocalist does a lot of that sort of background moaning, gagging, etc..The guitarists in both bands (or just in Catalyst) use the sort of discordant 'one solo in the right ear, another in the left' concept. It can be pulled off well, but I wasn't too fond of the mixing done on that song. Lots of metal bands do that technique (Slayer also comes to mind, but it was more of a Slipknot tempo) but the usually have the solos going at seperate times, but 2 different solos at once. It was interesting to say the least.

EDIT: Moses, I got your AIM message, I was busy typing out this post to respond before you went off line. Do it when you can. :thumb:

I've decided to lay back on this contest. I told Marshall this, but I might as well share it with everyone. I've been pushing deadlines on people, but whatever, we have 5 weeks. :p

Kage 06-25-2005 08:29 PM

You should listen to Mouth of the Architect. I think they're 10x better than Isis, and I'm an Isis fan.

EDIT: Jake, my AIM is Headshokk7, and I've seen you on and tried to say something, but everytime I message you I never get a response. Just telling you in case you didn't reply because you didn't know who I was.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 08:34 PM

I've never seen one of your windows pop up...I think that my AIM is wrong on my profile. I added you right now. See what happens...I'll check out the MotA after dinner. I'm not sure how long I'm gonna be online for.

Moses 06-25-2005 10:22 PM

Well, since it's on the dreaded page 2, this calls for a......

My AIM is Letmypeopleho69 if anyone wanted to know..........
And yeah Jake I also just realized we have 5 weeks.

Hehe, page 420

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-25-2005 10:30 PM

Yeah...It seems like a long time, but considering that in the 5 or so weeks we've been working on this, we've not finished one song. :-/

We're close I suppose.

Hmm interesting night...

After recent events (second last page L+R) i couldn't sleep, stayed on MX till about 2 then headed off to bed...

I got about 2 hrs sleep total at about 9:30. I listened to every tool album bar salival, and some dream theater and the cure :emo: I remembered people talking about just sitting there and absorbing the music, so i thought i'd give it a try. I ended up just listening to the drums really, it wasn't really a pleasant experience, i was too fidgety, for it to be cool i'd need to be more relaxed. Also i didn't cue up salival properly, which was not good :(

Dried Muffin Remnants 06-26-2005 11:21 AM

Hey - can somebody find the article about Tool performing at some sort of scientology event a while back? I just thought that the story was hilarious. Something about the band bahhing like sheep at the crowd.
Attn. Limp Bizkit has a progressive 16:28 minute song. It's very Toolesque.
If you are talking about Everything, than you have no clue what Tool is about. That song is extremely boring to listen to. There's no progression to the song whatsover and frankly, the fact that you say it's Toolesque, pretty much insults Tool to the highest degree. Listen to "Third Eye" and than listen to "Everything." Note the difference. Look man, I respect your opinion, but please stop talking about LB on here. You already started a thread about 3 Dollar Bill Y'all. Yet you post those garbage Durst lyrics in this thread. Why? It's quite unfitting considering the fact that you posted it in a Tool thread, and Tool has very good lyrics (especially on the last 2 cds).

Kage 06-26-2005 12:27 PM

I agree that Everything is actually a pretty boring spurt of ambient noise. But he can talk about it in here if he wants, because this is a more a thread for Tool fans to come together and converse, since not too much is happening Tool-wise.

I guess we could over-analyze every second of Lateralus every day, but there are limits as to how many things we can talk about with literally no news coming from the Tool front.

Mr Herb 06-26-2005 01:12 PM

LB on a tool thread. Thats like John Kerry on the republican convention. Anyways.

Can someone show me a list of the drummers that have perfomed triad lvie with tool.Or at least mention a few?

LB suck, don't get me wrong. (yes, I have heard more than enough to know what I'm talking about). But, believe it or not, LB were influenced greatly by Tool.

Mr Herb 06-26-2005 02:01 PM

I bet they were but it dont matter cause Fred Durst sucks so much.

Wats yer point dude?

It means that if Moses wants to talk about LB in here, then he can.
