lol, funny cause that's the other popular Thrash band I never liked either. Seems I'm not one to judge much thrash then, if two of the more popular bands are in the bottom of my lists.
|
Well, Overkill are pretty well loved here as well. Starting to listen to them more myself a bit, but I don't think I'll ever totally get past the vocals.

Yes. Overkill for sure are deffinetly a big Thrash band anywhere's you go, and for good reason IMO. The one thing that bothers most people about them is Blitz's voice. |
Honestly he sounds like Elmo sometimes. Not to say they don't have their share of thrash gems.
|
I love Blitz's voice, it's unique. About Testament......I used to be the biggest Testament fan, but over time I started liking them less and less, because they just seem really weak compared to all the other thrash out there. I still have a soft place for the first 5 albums as weak and over rated as they may be, but they are far from my favorite though. They are the band that really introduced me to the more underground thrash scene though

What album is your avatar?
|
I think Testament were the first non big 4 thrash band I got into... or maybe it was Kreator...
I love Chuck Billy's voice though. |

Release From Agony by Destruction :thumb: |
How does that stack up against The Antichrist?
|

I love Chuck Billy's voice though.
Yeah, his voice was awesome back in the day before all the death growling. He used to pull off those bad ass screams on songs like "Over the Wall". |

/has never listened to post PWYP Testament |
How does that stack up against The Antichrist?
Well, It is a lot more technical, because they had Olly who was a jazz drummer and Harry who was a classical guitarist. Mike's riffs were way more technical because he said he started listening to Fates Warning and Watchtower. It's not a brutal as the Antichrist, and probably not as catchy, but I like the vocals/riffs/solos more. |
Sounds like another album I need to buy :)
|
/has never listened to post PWYP Testament
I personally like PWYP, although no one else does and everyone says it's weak. I can see why. The album after PWYP is "Souls of Black" and isn't too much different then PWYP. The album after Souls of Black is "The Ritual" and they tried to go for a more commercial so the thrash is pretty much gone, but I like it as a metal album. It's not a musical abortion like Metallica's Black album. After that "Low" came out and just tried to be down-tuned 90's thrash, but is kind of lame. "Demonic" came out in '97 and is by far the shittiest album. It's all death vocals, no solos and groove monkey homo riffs. "The Gathering" came out in '99 and is a mixture of "Low" and "Demonic", except with cool drumming, because Lombardo plays on it, but other than that, it blows |
I also like PWYP, its not a bad album. I prefer it to TNO even.
What about First Strike Still Deadly? |
First Strike Still Deadly is just a bunch of old tunes from the first The Legacy and TNO re-recorded with better production.....but played at half the speed and intesity, so it's quite gay. The only track on there that is essential is the re-recorded verion of "Reign of Terror", because it's awesome thrash with the almighty Zetro doing vocals
|

What about First Strike Still Deadly?
Just download Alone In The Dark and Reign Of Terror. Zetro ownage right there. |
its called an opinion
And yes, I know it wasn't a huge contribution, but I was just saying, I like the contribution of mostly the legacy.
I'm not having a go at you, its just Testament started releasing albums when thrash had been around for a few years, so they didn't actually contribute anything new at all. |

Thats how i feel. Testament were one of the first thrash bands i listened to, and they helped me listen to better things. |

Don't worry man. I'm the same way... Anthrax and Testament are at the bottom of my list. Anthrax only had 1 good album(Fistful), and Testament were just run of the mill, it's been done 1000 times before by better bands, simple thrash with plenty of ballads for good measure! Only albums I have from them are Low and The Gathering, because I'm a James Murphy whore. |

I enjoy most of Anthrax's material.

As do I; Anthrax are always fun to listen to, aside from their newer groove material. |

Yeah, the new groove is lacking. |

Have you had a chance to see them live since Belladonna rejoined? They were awesome when I saw them. |
