yeah, ofcourse, i listen to any kind of music.. ill just anoy over the bassist alittle while and then forget him..:p and then get shocked if he/she throws in a 5th somewhere..
But it scares me from wanting to educate me as a bassist if that is what im gonna turn out like... like the school im going to now, the teacher for bass is the ex-bass player for a pop rock band, and how i have heard that band, hes no more than a guitarist with a bass(i REALY hope he prove me wrong...)
 Throws a 5th in somewhere...;) Yeah, not all bassits wind up like that. Matt Rubano majored in bass performance at Berklee and he was a session bassist for a while, laying down some really sweet grooves. He's now the bassist of TBS and is so awesome at what he does for the music. :thumb: -Gav |

Warwick, Schecter, and Spector are my favorite three companies. :thumb: -Gav
Amen to that Brotha'! |
im very Much a 5th guy to.. but i tend to often use the octaves and the 5th and then move into the scale and the 5th... my biggest fear is to run out of patterns and end up doing just the same thing over and over again(thats where i could learn even more from Geddy, he use the same pattern often but make em sound COMPLETELY different...)
im also afraid to over do it, but there im happy that i have a band that give me a clear message "Martin! Thats to much" and then i go the same thing only remove a couple of notes.. |

 I'm determined to be the first really good hardcore/emo/indie/screamo bassist...by really good I mean find a way to bring slapping into emo music. :p If anything, I'll end up playing bass in a 311-like band because that's the music I can "groove" to best, which is my favorite thing to do. I can write good lines for hardcore and stuff like that, but I find grooving like P-Nut and Dirk Lance to be much funner. It's more like jazz than anything else, and I get to slap and groove. :thumb: -Gav |
uppahupp...

I wasn't going to start a thread about this cause it would be pointless so... When you people here write bass lines? how exactly do you come up with them? Do you play with someone else you plays different instrument(guitar, drums etc)? Or is there other ways you come up with them?
|
I just fu'ck around on my guitar, play classic bass lines or scales until I come up with a different variation. All pieces are based off of a Major or Minor scale, so you need to know a lot of scales and modes to come up with different bass lines to suit the additude, feel, and style of the piece you perform. I am right now working on a bass line, for a whole entire piece, that starts off on D Minor. The way you know that it is based off of D Minor is the key signature of the bass line is the same as D minor's key signature, along with 1 or 2 accedentals, or notes that contradict the key signature. But the neccessary notes, which are played a majority of the time, go in the key signature, notes that aren't played as much, or accedentals, are marked with a flat sign, sharp sign, or natural sign.
Sorry that I'm rambling. Once I start, I can't stop can't stop can't stop. |

Maybe i should try different variations of the scales and all that. So if i was working on something fast but good should i just make up a line using a spin off of the scale and make it a lot faster? |
