Sweet. I've just finished up programming. Completely unmixed, no velocity changes, no nothing, just plain programmed. I can email you over what there is so far right now. The song's You Think You're John Fucking Lennon by the way. Thought I'd start with an easier one :)

Kuffuffled 03-30-2011 06:13 PM

Join dropbox brosef, it's the shizzle. Sent invite

fatbandit 03-30-2011 06:14 PM

sorting it nowww

fatbandit 03-30-2011 06:28 PM

do you want the link for that track again now it's in dropbox dude, or did you get it fine anyway? i really don't know what that weird artifact right at the start is either D:

Kuffuffled 03-30-2011 06:55 PM

You're gonna track bass right? Did you just rip midi out of a guitar pro for that or something

fatbandit 03-30-2011 06:58 PM

Yeah, I fully plan to record real bass over it, and get better kit samples in due course. This is placeholder stuff, only just started working on it :) The bass is just MIDI I programmed in with a basic VSTi applied, same with the drums.

Kuffuffled 03-30-2011 07:48 PM

Cool. I have all the major ones (BFD2, superior, AD), DAWs are Reaper and Pro Tools 9. What are you using bromite

fatbandit 03-31-2011 01:36 AM

Just using Reaper for all my programming. Haven't got hold of any drum packages yet (that's a free VSTi I'm using, it's kind of limited), though I might see if my buddy wants to Slate it up for me. Unless you fancy giving them a blast?

Kuffuffled 03-31-2011 03:22 AM

I'm pretty dec and programming drums. These Steven Slate drums sound pretty sweet though

The Transporter 03-31-2011 07:16 AM

love when this ad comes on, the chicks pretty hot too

The_Mop 03-31-2011 08:16 AM

So yeah. Just completed arkham asylum. Awesome!

Also dissertation project still isn't working. Pain in the arse!

And I've not been doing any recording. Boring!

Hows the lod?

Sad But True 03-31-2011 08:24 AM

The comments on that soundcloud link are stupid; have those people honestly never heard a piano before that they think it's the greatest piece of music ever made?

The bass is first thing on my agenda, the drums after that. All the notes are there, they just need to sound better :)

You Think You're John Fucking Lennon

The Transporter 03-31-2011 09:35 AM

who is doing the vocals

Doesn't seem likely, but I love it myself all the same

went to get the car taxed today during a normal office hour, they we're closed, i avoided lunchtime  was only 3:40

mothertruckers
who is doing the vocals
No idea. I'm pretty much just doing this for giggles. If someone comes along who can slay the vocals, I'll roll with it though. There's one guy locally who could probably do an awesome job, but I don't really know him too well.

If it goes well, I might do some more. Dunno. I'm trying to learn about all this recording stuff so I can do my band's demos myself and make them sound good. But currently my experience level is at round about zero ;p

The Transporter 03-31-2011 09:48 AM

the chorus of that song is good, but the verse is one of the weakest riffs i've ever heard

if kuffeus wants to i can halp with guitars or bass me and him are pretty cool guys

fatbandit 03-31-2011 10:01 AM

It's a fairly idiomatic riff, agreed. Shit grooves pretty hard though. Like I said, thought I'd start with an easy one, and I can't think of many simpler GJ songs tbh.

I should hopefully be able to track the bass in the next few days if I can get the house to myself to make some noise. Could be pretty sweet if you each do a track for it though that's slightly different, and then pan them L/R or something? Don't know if the recording has two tracks or if they're even different or anything though D:

The Transporter 03-31-2011 10:10 AM

there are definitely at least two guitar tracks with slight differences. its more apparent during the "screeching" fills

fatbandit 03-31-2011 10:31 AM

It's just the production's pretty bad, it's hard to make out exactly what's going on all the time hah.

The Transporter 03-31-2011 12:35 PM

guitar pro is on ultimate guitar dot com is pretty accurate

fatbandit 03-31-2011 01:37 PM

Gotta get my head round recording good bass first! I'm using a precision into an EBS Microbass, into a cheap Tascam interface. Nothing's clipping at any stage, but it just sounds kinda muffled and poop, so I'm going to swap out for a passive DI. If that doesn't help, then I blame the Tascam, cuz how can a precision even begin to sound bad? D: Haha

Blue_Moon 03-31-2011 01:52 PM

di bass will always suck balls

good bass sounds can be tricky

fatbandit 03-31-2011 02:01 PM

Was definitely the EBS. Straight into the Tascam sounds better already.

I hate DI'ing bass at gigs without a mic, but when it comes to home recording, I'm pretty much limited :p

guitarbaz 03-31-2011 03:46 PM

Got some new songs (covers) up on our facebook page if anyone can be arsed to listen

http://www.facebook.com/blistereduk

all recorded in my studio at home with no trickery, all live just drums, guitars, vintage keys and amps :)

there's a media player on the info page. which is a bit wank tbh, i'd like to get one on the front page but haven't sussed it yet.

Bass can get overwhelming fast when it comes to overhead. Give yourself lots and it's all good

fatbandit 03-31-2011 06:09 PM

Got a couple of things I want to try out for recording bass, but if all else fails, anyone got some decent links for relevant/useful vsts and impulse responses etc?

Aaron 03-31-2011 06:27 PM

What do you guys think of Jeff Loomis?

SugarCoatedSour 03-31-2011 06:49 PM

he'd make a good scarecrow? ...also kinda looks like dave st.hubbins from Spinal Tap
