i like those now, it took me a while to get into goddess gagged, now i really like it
|
Wretch is my favourite song at the moment, it keeps changing though.
There are evenings when this decimated world of movement, colour and form Gets thin, and getting thinner When lights are dim, and getting dimmer When nights are grim and they're only getting, only getting grimmer I love that bit, and the end is the best part on the entire album. |
The first time I heard both I really liked them. The only songs I don't REALLY like are The Dissentience and Spoils.
|
im cliche...
im in love with bone marrow |
For me it's Bone Marrow and Bloodmeat.
|
seeing these guys in march over in p-town, should be a good show...minus every other band other than these guys lol
|
HA! Read that interview, they said they listened to a lot of Dream Theater and Symphony X, I said those 2 bands and someone was like "What what what are you talking about Dream Theater you idiot it's nothing like it"
|
I'm probably going to see them in mid-March I think in LA.
|
I can hear the Symphony X influence somewhere around the one minute mark in Goddess Gagged.
|
I can hear it in The Dissentience around the 7 second mark.
|
itll be the 3rd time ive seen them, they get better every time
|
I can hear it in The Dissentience around the 7 second mark.
I just listened to that and you're definitely right. |
ive never heard symphony x so i wouldnt know where to pick it out
|
Dream Theater influence I can hear about 1:32 in Limb from Limb, the music is well Dream Theater.
|
I don't think there's much Dream Theater in their sound at all. If there was I wouldn't listen to them. I do remember them saying they liked how Petrucci's solos were memorable, or how awesome Myung's work ethic was, and yeah I'm sure they listen to them (most people do, or have, to a point). I just (thankfully) don't hear it much in them. I know Tim loves Symphony X though, he used to always play 'em when he DJ'd.
|
Rody loves Symphony X, too.:
http://headbangersblog.mtv.com/2008/01/25/bang-of-the-week-protest-the-hero-lionizes-symphony-x/ I really want to go to the show tomorrow. Initially, I didn't buy a ticket 'cause everyone but Protest is sucky... but now that I've had Fortress for a little while and am obsessed with the band again I'm going a bit crazy thinking it'll be months before they're back 'round here. |
I'm still waiting to see if I've got a spot on the list. It's not looking good thus far though. I got a ****load of work to do anyways. I've seen 'em about 40 times more than necessary anyways.
|
Heh, it'd be sweet to see some Fortress songs, though. Here's hoping they put you on the list.
Last I saw them was at the Dungeon in, uh... Late August/early September, I think. I've seen them loads of times (not quite 40.. probably in the teens), but haven't seen them do any new songs since I've heard them recorded. |
I was at that Dungeon show, and the dudes ****ed up with the list, so Arif had to sneak me in. I've seen a few Fortress songs live but not since the album's dropped. Wouldn't mind seeing Dissentience again; last time I saw it was the first time they ever played it.
I doubt there's room on the list. I initially said I wasn't going to go, so the spots got filled. And ugh. The Dungeon. The first time I went there, r/f actually puked from the heat. Ugh Oshawa, in fact. The "Vampire" capitol of Canada. All the mall-goths go play laser tag upstairs before gigs, it's hilarious/depressing. |
I like this band. Got a hold of the album Kezia, and though I love the music, the vocals can be a be a bit off putting at times. Too much comparison to whiny scene singers. Musically however I like this. Turn Soonest To The Sea is wicked.
|

your own stupidity has nothing to do with cheady |
sounds like the place i go for shows, it gets so hot in there you get sick so easily, but they're easily some of the most fun shows ive been to
they're more personal |

they're more personal
There's a difference between most small bars and the Dungeon. Trust me. Behemoth once said it was the worst venue they ever played. It has no windows, no real ventilation, and it's hot as ****ass in it |
I can just definitely see Dream Theater influences in the music. Not you know, like Dream Theater sounds, just phrasing, sweep patterns, that circus bit in Palms Read? Come on.
|
I dont really see it, sorry. I guess you could compare that bit to Dance of Eternity, but yeah.
|
those shows are some of the most fun/not fun to be at
the place im talking about is just about the same, its probabaly bigger than 'the dungeon' but it has no ventilation whatsoever, it sucks sometimes. during the as i lay dying show, it was so loud and hot that people were puking pure water cause it was so insane...lol crazy *** shows |
I'm sure it's not worse. I once saw them at a venue with human **** on the floor, and that still wasn't as bad as the Dungeon.
|
The interlude between the 2 keyboard solos in Limb from Limb reminds me of it too, curiously enough, not the actual keyboard solo!
It's cool man, everyone has their own perspective of the album, it's hard to put into words where I see the comparison, just like, the way the bass drum locks into the guitars sometimes, meh, loads of stuff. Can you see the start of The Dissentience/Symphony X comparison? By the way, this is a good thing, they're awesome places to draw influence from! |
your own stupidity has nothing to do with cheady
Thanks I'll consider that She Who Mars The Skin Of Gods is pretty tight as well. Riff at 0.38 is wicked. |
I'm sure it's not worse. I once saw them at a venue with human **** on the floor, and that still wasn't as bad as the Dungeon.
lol sounds like a gg allen show |
Yeah the synths are a pretty obvious Symphony X nod I think. Especially when you listen to the instrumental version.
Oddly enough, one of the first things I heard from the new stuff was that the structure reminded me of Gorod. |
i think the synths add a lot to the music in some parts
|
Hahaha... what venue had human **** on the floor?
I agree that the Dungeon is a piece of ****... and way too hot. The heat reminded me of the Rockit... probably won't go there again. That was a cool show, though - got to see Bloodmeat and Goddess Bound (I think). I remember everyone cheering and applauding at the fake-out end of Bloodmeat. |

That was it. The Rockit ruled but it was too hot. It's a jazz-bar now, no fooling. |
I thought you were YDload for a second.
|
Has anyone seen them play on their latest tour? Im going to see them in Jersey on the 23rd, and I wanted to know how long their set is (because I know they arnt headlining).
|
i think they're right before the headlining group
|
It'll be a decent set, I reckon about 40 minutes.
|
thats what i thought im hoping they play a lot more newer stuff, last time i saw them was pre-fortress so they played 2 new songs, bloodmeat and one i couldnt (and still) dont know about but i hope they play a lot of newer stuff
|
Bunit, first of all I love the Solid Snake avatar. Second, Coke, 40 minutes is damn decent. Im guessing it will be mostly Fortress tracks?
