I just found out that Solitude Aeternus was formed about an hour from where I live.
That is awesome. They are my favorite doom band, and borderline in my top ten overall.

Jondur 09-07-2006 04:17 AM
Didn't stoner and doom really originate from the same source--Black Sabbath and all that? I always considered them to be very closely related.
I'd consider them as different as black metal and death metal. Both came from the same source (Venom in the case of death and black) but approach it in a completely different way.

Nice man.
Sleep is exellent stoner.
Goatsnake, isn't that a drone sideproject of Greg Anderson?
Red Sparowes is also nice, but not really doom or stoner. It's exellent post rock though.

I'm listening to Earth right now and it makes me very happy.
Exellent music, fuzzy drone-ieness.
Anyone else enjoy them?

I agree, they're different, but I just consider them to be related in that way.

I like the one newer song I've heard (from Hex..) more than the couple I've heard from their 90s albums (no idea which), despite the relative absense of volume/heaviness/etc. I really liked the new one though, so I'm thinking of getting that album some time soon.

Kage 09-07-2006 03:34 PM

Earth is great.

Cool. I should check out some newer stuff by them. :)

Phototropic 09-09-2006 04:45 AM

Just downloaded Enemy of the sun album by Neurosis

Anybody here into them? Very atmospheric, I love it

Actually is was a Stoner Rock band Greg was in that formed around 1996. They had a few releases, but they haven't released anything in a while.

Phototropic 09-09-2006 10:47 AM

Not that fussed on Goatsnake to be honest, Pete Stahls voice seems a bit...bland, the musics jolly sleazy though...Scott Reeders in it so whoo

Can someone recommend me some Funeral Doom along the lines of Comatose Vigil, please.

I cant get enough off Not A Gleam Of Hope.

There isn't much like that. :(
Reclusiam comes pretty close, but you already know them.
Wormphlegm might be worth checking out, althoug it doesn;t have the synths.

Daven 09-10-2006 01:50 PM

Damn, what i love about CV are the synths. Thanks anyway. :)

the2stranger 09-10-2006 02:01 PM
Damn, what i love about CV are the synths. Thanks anyway. :)
Shape Of Despair uses a lot of synths too.
But you probably know them too, the genre isn't too big. :(

Daven 09-10-2006 02:07 PM

Well, ive heard of them but havent listened to them yet. Ill check them out, thanks.

Magicaltroll 09-11-2006 10:31 AM

Has anyone here heard Sally?

They're pretty sweet, I got their album two days ago, and it's like slow heavy-Electric Wizard. Or atleast that's how I describe it :p

Oh yeah, I'm in a new band (for those of you that even kinda cared about Animal Cruelty). It's basically Doom Metal, but it's weird, I don't know. But the name's Of Fire, Of Stone. We've had one practice, and we already have four songs, haha. If any of you guys wanna check out our music, we might be recording today, so I can upload the mp3s to here or something.

Magicaltroll 09-11-2006 07:58 PM

This is kind of a bump, and a question.

I just got a 100$ Best Buy gift card, and I was wondering what the hell I could get at Best Buy that's like Doom Metal.

Any one have any ideas?

Tyr 09-12-2006 06:56 PM

What's Swallow the Sun like?

Txus 09-12-2006 07:01 PM

Like utterly amazing.

Magicaltroll: I liked your AC stuff, if you can upload the songs in here or send them to Txus.mx (at) Gmail.com that'll be great.

Tyr 09-12-2006 07:07 PM

Alrighty, I'll check them out.

Txus 09-12-2006 07:08 PM

If you want to listen to a song that captures everything about them, check out The Giant.

Kage 09-12-2006 07:11 PM

Boris is undoubtedly the best Stoner/Doom band. That is, when they are being a stoner/doom band.

publicastration 09-12-2006 07:12 PM

Naw, Swallow The Sun's best song is Through Her Silvery Body.

Txus 09-12-2006 07:19 PM

I never said The Giant was STS's best song....

Daven 09-12-2006 07:27 PM

Descending Winters is STS's best song.

publicastration 09-12-2006 07:46 PM

I don't believe I've listened to that song.

I still say Through Her Silvery Body is their best.

Magicaltroll 09-13-2006 12:07 AM

Thanks d00d.

I can do that for you.

I like them alot, but Electric Wizard is my favorite.

the2stranger 09-13-2006 03:38 AM
What's Swallow the Sun like?
Swallow The Sun is a doom/death band from Finland.
It's really good stuff.
They have two albums out, which both rock.
The songs mentioned here are must hears for this band.

So:
The Giant
Descending Winters
Through Her Silvery Body

I can hit you up with both albums if you want.

Tyr 09-13-2006 04:44 AM

Yes, please.

b.moren (at) gmail.com

ATM 09-13-2006 08:59 AM

Any chance I can grab those, too?

[enail]baerwitness@yahoo.com

Kage 09-13-2006 10:40 AM
Thanks d00d.

I can do that for you.

Have you heard Boris' album Dronevil? It's heavier and ten times better than anything Electric Wizard has put out (this coming from an EW fan!).

If you want it I will send it to you. It's two discs, one drone disc and one "evil" disc that overlap if you synch them up. It's one of the best heavy albums I've ever heard.

the2stranger 09-19-2006 10:46 AM

Could I have it too?
peter_time (at) hotmail.com
Thanks a lot.

Anyone love Wormplhelegm too?
Damn, I've been on quite a binge with Tomb Of The Ancient King.
Really awesome and creepy, the atmopshere with this howling clean guitar over a wall of sound is just mesmerizing.

np: Wormphlegm - Epejulamat Monet Tesse Muinen Pauveltin Lauran Ja Lesse

Werny 09-20-2006 03:46 AM

Wormphlegm are ace, I didn't like their demo due to the extremely thin sound but I love Tomb of the Ancient King heaps.

Apocalyptic Raids 09-20-2006 04:00 AM

I've got Tomb Of The Ancient King and it's alright.

the2stranger 09-20-2006 07:55 AM

I only have their full length, but that owns imo.
I love it, so eerie.

np: Sunn O))) - The Gates Of Ballard

Werny 09-20-2006 09:44 AM

I love their original take on Doom, it's neither Funeral or Death/Doom. It's almost sludge, really.

RetiredAt21 09-20-2006 10:21 AM

Do any of you guys like Grief or Graves At Sea?

the2stranger 09-20-2006 10:44 AM
I love their original take on Doom, it's neither Funeral or Death/Doom. It's almost sludge, really.
They do justice to 'Torture Doom' That says eough, they do sound sludgey at times.
I love them, so dark and creepy.
Do any of you guys like Grief or Graves At Sea?
Only heard them by name, any recommendations?

RetiredAt21 09-20-2006 10:48 AM

I highly reccomend you listen to anything you can get your hands on. It's all really good.
