edit: is there anybody else who thinks that the song And all that could have been (album: Still) is one of the greatest Trent ever wrote!?
Yes! That's my favorite NIN song. Never has any NIN song been so powerful (and it has some great competition).

bwnstl 10-20-2005 02:23 PM

I agree, AATCHB is one of his emotional best. I actually think Still is the most solid album he's released. I love the acoustic feel of it, especially the piano instrumentals. He makes some of his best music when it's just him sitting behind a piano.
He makes some of his best music when it's just him sitting behind a piano.
yeah, that's true.. i love the video from his homepage where he is playing "Something i can never have" alone on piano ... it's so beautiful, i will never forget the day i first saw it...

edit: does anyone know a possibility to download the 'Live in-studio performances' from nin.com? wanna have it on pc....

edit2#: i will have birthday soon and my mum asked me what i need/want to have; i thought of a NIN-DVD... any recommendations? or is 'closure' the only one, which was released? and do there exist different versions of the dvd or only one?

repcak 10-20-2005 03:20 PM

hm.. i just looke at amazon: the AATCHB-DVD is the same as the live-cd... so it would be only a vizualised-cd-version;
Closure seems to be better but its only on VHS... or has it been released on DVD afterwards too? i can't find it. amazon doesn't have it :upset:

Well, if you go to yahoo and search for Nine Inch Nails under 'videos', they have a few of the in studio performances. If I'm not mistaken they have one of them rehearsing Just Like You Imagined. They also have The Becoming, and Something I Can Never Have. I'm not sure if you can save them on to your pc or not...but you can give it a try.

The plan a few months ago was to release Closure on DVD, but it hasn't happened yet due to legal issues with the material. It will eventually. AATCHB is far superior, though.

do you think i should get AATCHB? but i already got the cd... its the same show... the one is a bestof-live music cd, the DVD is a music video,... but there are the same songs... whats about bonus-material?
and the dvd is expensive too :upset: 42€

Toaster 10-20-2005 07:05 PM

This is off-topic, but does anyone know why NIN put "halo ___" on all of their albums? I assume there's some cool, disturbing meaning behind it.

I absolutely love "AATCHB", the song. Amazing. The only other two from Still that I have heard, and have on my computer, are "Something I Can Never Have", "Gone, Still", and "Adrift and At Peace" (which is basically a conclusion to "La Mer" and "Into the Void"). I'd love to someday get the rest of Still.

I do recommend it. It's an amazing DVD. And, even though you've heard all the songs, the visual aspect is more than half of the appeal. The visual effects on La Mer and The Great Below are worth the entire price of the DVD alone.

And, yes, there is some very cool bonus material.

I don't really know why Trent did it, but I'll assume it's because he's hardcore like that.

@BlindWriting: if you are interested i can upload Still.
YSI don't work on my computer, but i can upload it on my homepage for 2days (not longer, cause i can get problems with the admins)... give me your email and i will send you the link this weekend

BlindWriting 10-20-2005 07:27 PM

That link from a couple pages back (http://www.sickamongthepure.com/files/2002/02/TDS/TDS.html) was awesome. I'd love to read that while listening to the album.

On another topic, what does everyone think of the lyrics to "La Mer"? While they're technically not sung in the song itself, they're quite chilling to read.
And when the day arrives
I'll become the sky
And I'll become the sea

And the sea will come to kiss me
For I am going
Home

Nothing can stop me now
See what I mean?

in the fragile he repeats the symbol/metaphor of "sea" several times... i'm not sure but as far as i remember it stays for a girl/woman/relationship.

i'll check this out tomorrow...gn8

I didn't know that's what the lyrics were. Those are really great.

Hey, if you don't mind I'd also like to download the album.
skorpio_f@msn.com

By the way, AATCHB dvd is quite awesome. Love that dvd. I think it's worth a buy.

Just wondering..would anyone happen to have that new NIN song Trent performed for the Katrina relief concert...'Non-Entity'?

Kage 10-20-2005 09:05 PM

Yeah...I do. I'll upload it and send it to you and whoever else wants it.

bwnstl 10-20-2005 09:10 PM

I would like it. bjwumr AT gmail DOT com

oh, and Trent labeled all the albums Halo __ simply as a cataloging system.

Kage 10-20-2005 09:14 PM

Sent.

Mr Herb 10-20-2005 09:40 PM

repcak 10-21-2005 04:14 AM

repcak 10-21-2005 08:00 AM

i just send the mail with the link to nin-still (DanS122@optonline.net, skorpio_f@msn.com, bjwumr@gmail.com)

YSI worked even this time...

misunderstood 10-21-2005 09:34 AM

Thanks Kage and Repcak for sending the files. I greatly appreciate it. :thumb:

BlindWriting 10-21-2005 02:26 PM

Repcak, thank you so much. You're the man. I owe you one.

bwnstl 10-21-2005 03:03 PM

I was referring to Kage since I already have still, but thanks anyways repcak for the thought! :)

repcak 10-21-2005 03:25 PM

i wasn't sure, so i sent you the links too

And thank you Kage for the Non-Entity song!!
did you realized the rhythm/beat? it has to be really hard to play it... first there is the drum and afterwards the piano ... but the rhythm/beat of both (drum and piano) is different... i am impressed how he is able to play to this rhythm/beat and sing at once :thumb:

BlindWriting 10-25-2005 03:12 PM

I listened to Still a few days ago. There's some beautiful instrumental stuff on there (Leaving Hope and Gone, Still) as well as some great renditions of his earlier stuff. Really fantastic rainy day music.

misunderstood 10-25-2005 03:40 PM
Really fantastic rainy day music.
Exactly!

Has anyone heard about this whole Trent solo tour? I wonder when exactly this is suppose to take place (if it does happen). From my understanding, NIN is suppose to do another US tour early next year and then head back to the studio immidiately to finish a follow up to With Teeth which Reznor wants to release next year as well. Anyway, if the solo tour were to happen, I think it'd be pretty darn cool. Just Trent and a piano..nice.

Shadows 10-25-2005 04:59 PM

I find that NIN is great as background music. If I put on some NIN and start doing my homearok, I find that those several hours are much more pleasurable and less straining.

misunderstood 10-27-2005 03:00 PM

Good News: Pretty Hate Machine is going to be reissued on Nov.22! Finally after being out of print for quite some time. Anyway, it might be released in surround sound, with some bonus tracks and remixes...and perhaps a deluxe packaging? Awesome.

repcak 10-27-2005 03:53 PM

wow, i hope he remixes the album once again, because on his debut album you hear the 'poor' quality of the instruments/synth/etc.

nice, I was afraid I'd have to import it. This is good news. :thumb:

...at the hollywood bowl was the last show that i will play with nine inch nails.
contrary to many published reports in the music press, i want to make it clear that my departure from the band has absolutely NOTHING to do with my health. i've learned much about myself and those around me (particularly in the last month) and it's brought about many positive changes. my association with the organization has opened many doors- i'm grateful and i'm ready to move on.
although i appreciate the concern, i am not sick or recouperating. i feel great (physically and otherwise) and am playing the best drums of my life right now. more later.............jerome.

:upset:
Bummer! I liked him with NIN.

repcak 10-29-2005 03:27 PM

hm? what the hell.....

is the drummer leaving the band or did i misunderstood something.....

misunderstood 10-29-2005 03:29 PM

Yeah, Jerome Dillon has been drumming with NIN since The Fragile days...and now he's gone. I guess this kinda explains some of Reznor's recent posts at nin.com..maybe.

repcak 10-29-2005 03:32 PM

post..? hm...

/check this out

edit: can't find it...

bwnstl 10-30-2005 02:59 PM

He already has.....
Jerome Dillon hasn't been playing with NIN for like 3 weeks. That post by him is just him saying that he won't be coming back.
Alex Carepetis(sp?) has been filling in quite well for the last few weeks.

dUSK 11-01-2005 09:55 AM

I'm listening to Radiant Decay again, and the version of Something I Can Never Have that's on there is far more beautiful than I remember it being. I love the female vocals.

Reywas 11-02-2005 02:20 AM

My favourite PHM song excluding SICNH and HLAH would probably be Sin or Terrible Lie.

bwnstl 11-02-2005 11:52 AM

I think that is NINs worst album, personally.
