Like what music would each be suitable for, which has a nicer "tssss" you could say, better stick definition, stuff like that?

ok ill just explain what im looking for in a cymbal... i want a sound that is fast it ends in a hurry and isnt carried on very long but i want it to be loud and i dont want it to sound like someone is choking it i want some flavour to the hit...i need a ride and a crash the ride should have a great sounding kind of low ping from the bell and still be able to be heard over guitars and bass and whatnot i also need 2 splash cymbals that have a crashy sound and not a doingy sound can anyone help me out.... i would like the crash to be about 15 or 16" max and the ride size doesnt matter then the splash cymbals 10" or under any help would be greatly appreciated

if you want a low sound get a bigger sized ride, 22"+. Perhaps a big K heavy ride? Also look into an A deep ride or A ping, all traditonal finish.

Splashes - check out the 10" Stagg Myra splash, I love this splash, short splashy and a good pitch, not a *ping*. You basicly described it yourself lol.

of those 3, get the Paragon....personally, get a 16" AA Medium. it would complement it the best,and be fairly durable in your punk....they Stage and vault i would not reccomend for Punk.

if your looking for something with deffinition and sizzle, get the Grooves in a 14" Paring. the 13" would be a bit more sharper and articulate...you seem to be describing something a little more fuller sounding than that.

Sorry to top my own post, but i think it got overlooked.
I went and tried a few crashes today, (17s and 18s) and the didnt really grab me..
None of the staggs, sabians or Ufips tickled my fancy. Ks were alright, but .. not sure

I desperatly need to upgrade my Paiste 302s and was wondering wheather Sabian Pro Sonix are worth testing out as they're really cheap. Are they mid-range or low end cymbals? Any other suggestions for mid-range cymbals like Paiste Alphas. Open to all brands. Thanks.

^^^I play punk/ska/hardcore in my band so I want some cymbals that would go with that style of music.

Sonix are very bright, so they should be good. Also, if you can, step up to AA. Not a huge step in price between them and PoSonix, and they are amzing cymbals.

Sonix, are considered intermediate, and IMO Zildjian doesn't offer an intermediate line. The closest would prob be ZXT. For Paiste I would say Alpha or maybe Dimensions, if you can still find some.

The Alpha's are the same idea of the Pro/Sonix line...but the cool thing about the Sonix, comes into the mixer play.....you mic those things just right and you can pull all kinds of tones through them on your mix

Cool, thanks guys. I found a set of Pro Sonix consisting of 14" hi hats, 16" crash and 20" ride all for £160 which works out at about $280 American which sounded like a pretty good deal.

Also, I use nylon tips, will they leave loads of marks on Sabians? I was just wondering because Sabians aren't made with that protective covering like Paistes (which stay clean forever :p ) and I obviously want my new cymbals to stay looking new.

That is a very good deal actually. They are probably cheaper cause there "discontinued". I say go for it.

And I find that Sabians dont mark up a lot. The only line that I find gets marks a lot quicker is xs20. Must be something in the finish.

i suggest a 20" Zildjian A Sweet Ride, they awsome, plus set up high they're good for crashing if you want low tones crash sounds as accents

That setup looks to be all about versatility. I would suggest looking into AAX stage ride.

thats not a bad deal....as for the nylons, only on your ride, and your hats if you tip them a lot....nothing some cymbal cleaner would'nt fix though....but the brilliant finish will show em a bit more.

I would like an 18'' crash, dont care what company, but prefferably sabian or Zildjian. i dont want the crash too loud, and it needs to fit with a 16" Zildjian A Custom Crash. I also dont want to have too whack it super hard to get decent tones from it.

definatly the A Medium-thin....but if you arent too hard on your cymbals, look into the A. Zildjian Thin Crash

can anyone tell me what/how the paiste rude series hi hats sound, better than that how that whole series sounds, i cannot find any sound bytes of that series anywhere?

I don't know if any of you listen to Slayer, but Dave Lomardo used this cymbal on the South of Heaven album and I really want one, but I can't figure out what it is. It might be a chinese splash because it sounds like a very high pitched china when it's stuck, but it has a splashy decay. I've heard Lars Ulrich use something similar on The Shortest Straw.

what about a peavey ride? hah..

i'd go with a 20" Paiste Alpha Medium Ride for that price range, all paiste rides are beautiful and alphas are the more affordable ones IMO

look into the AA Medium and Rock rides....both are good, the Rock ride has more deinfintion and presence, but the Medium would be more versatile overall.

Im fond of Zildj. What can you point me towards? Im wanting something that gives a nice heavy sound for it but is fast too. I was looking at the fast crashes and the projective A series. For a Ride I would like more of a Crash/ride. Ive heard A series medium rides are nice. And for Hi hats Im kinda lost.

I have the sabian b8 set up * shakes head * And i want to start up grading to Zildjian 14 inch A custon hats, two a 17 and 16 inch fast crashes a Z custon 21 inch megga ride bell . and a 18 z custon med. crash some help on what u think and if someone could find me a deal on these on the web ne wear i will shower you with kisses. definatly go with the medium ride....20" or so.

Crashes, definatly look into the no Thinner than the medium crashes...A or A custom

as for hats, never can go wrong with new beats.

stay away from the Z customs. look into A Zildjian Rock Crashes/rides if you need the durability....everything else looks good though.

...actually, dont bother with the fast crashes either. in your genre, they'll crack up easily...look into the A Custom Projection or Medium crashes if anything.
