Bartender 02-01-2005 07:37 AM

Yeah, IM programs are also not working for me at the moment.

Devil Inferno 02-01-2005 07:45 AM

which song?

Bartender 02-01-2005 07:48 AM

Well, thanks, I could any other than the Alice Cooper one, but I don't think I'll have time right now. I have a lecture in a relatively short time. I could do it later tonight, if you upload one and no one else does it in the meantime (which I wouldn't mind; magik, go for it if you have the time spare :)).

munky_magik 02-01-2005 07:55 AM

I'll leave it to you. I have more important things to do.

LordDargon 02-01-2005 02:44 PM

Why is it that every time I want to do an FL, the only songs available are power metal?

Bump.

Here are the choices btw (save you the trouble of looking back)
Alice Cooper - Poison (supposedly, glam rock/metal)
Nightwish - Know why the nightingale sings (opera symphonic power metal)
Judas Priest - Rock hard ride free (heavy metal)
Blind Guardian - Into The Storm (Power metal)

Arucard 02-01-2005 03:32 PM

Alice Cooper - Poision

This song starts off with some nice sythns and a cool little riff, then goes into the main verse. Good singing here, the only song id heard by these guys was on Waynes World, which was 'Frankesntein.' I like his voice alot, very eerie.

The chorus is one of the most memorable and catchy tunes ive heard in a while, with 'I wanna hold you but i bet not touch (Dont Touch!)' still in my head after listening to the song ten minutes ago. Some nice guitar in here as well, but it is mostly synth dominated, as with alot of 80's glam metal. Guitar chords are very exagerated, with single strums with all the chords in the chorus.

The drums and bass in this song are very boring, with the drums being a straight 4/4 beat all the way through, and the bass seemingly rooting through most of the song, and they even throw in a predictable chorus key change to top off the proceedings.

Nice solo in the back of the last chorus though, very glam.

Overall : 8/10

Streetlight Manifesto : A Better Place, A Better Time (ska/punk)
Dark Throne : Soulside Journey (Death Metal)
Avenged Sevenfold : Second Heartbeat (Metal)
Common Rider - Classic Of Love (Rock)

LordDargon 02-01-2005 04:56 PM

Sorry, the Darkthrone is death metal (they became black on the next album) and A7X is metalcore.

Arucard 02-01-2005 04:57 PM

Not that A7X song, nothing off Waking The Fallen was metalcore.
Apart from possibly I Wont See You Tonight Part 2.

Huber 02-01-2005 06:04 PM

Sorry, no more dibs. My limewire crapped out on me all of the sudden.

Bartender 02-04-2005 08:38 AM

Bump. I'm still gmail/yousendit only.

3rdplanet 02-04-2005 08:47 AM

If no one else is up for it, I will do it.

LordDargon 02-04-2005 08:55 AM

Do it. And recommend something decent so I can do one.

Bartender 02-04-2005 09:04 AM

Do both of you have decent connections?

LordDargon 02-04-2005 09:06 AM

Mine is meh/middlin'. I can upload at 7/8 kps. Why?

Bartender 02-04-2005 09:11 AM

Because I want to do a Forced Listening :(

I'm having withdrawal symptoms. I used to do 3-4 a day (Pit, R&M, Alt/Indie, Other), but then I was without internet for six weeks, and now IM services and p2p programs are fucking me over excellently, so I rarely get to do any.

Dancin' Man 02-04-2005 09:14 AM

They are a good time. I recommend you make your computer stop sucking so you can get back in the game.

Avenged Sevenfold - Second Heartbeat

First one of these, so sorry if it is terribly done.

Starts with a little bit of guitar and a standard punkish roll on the snare. This all stops to allow for a classical (metal) lead guitar piece with drums being thumped to fit.

After this section is finished with, it goes into a poor tempo change bit, where the bass really starts to be noticeable, too noticeable, rancid tone to it. Aswell as all of this, it all sounds pretty bog standard, with the screamy vocals and the sung vocal style meshed which seems all the rage nowadays.

From the 2 minute mark up to about the 2:40 mark you have to suffer some horrible vocals. 'ohOhOhoh' harmonies and whatever. Nice drum fill at 2:50 though. The riff after is much better, nicely composed with some stop starts and nice chugging double bass.

At 3:40 a bland snare drum section comes in, pretty boring, not half as uplifting as you would want it to be. The bass is sticking out like a sore thumb again. More God awful singing. It's getting a little repetative, what the slower section did in making this song good is just lost now. Worst vocals ever at 5:10.

Oh the outro is far better. The solo I quite like, but it's still not enough to make thing song good.

4/10.

(sorry for the wrong terminology)

Dream Evil - Chasing the Dragon (Power Metal)
My Dying Bride - The Raven and The Rose (Doom Metal)
Orange Goblin - Hard Luck (Stoner Rock)
Do both of you have decent connections?
I do. Broadband.

munky_magik 02-04-2005 09:54 AM

If you can be bothered uploading the My Dying Bride Song to http://s26.yousendit.com , I'll take it

3rdplanet 02-04-2005 10:02 AM

I'm trying, but it's taking a very long time.

It is quite a big song, but this is going on for too long really. The IE bar has been reading 100% for quite some time now.

munky_magik 02-04-2005 10:05 AM

Ehh...I'll see If I can find it somewhere else.
I therefore call Theoretical Didbbles.

EDIT: dids revoked. Can't find My Dying Bride and the only Orange Goblin File I can find is corrupted :(

3rdplanet 02-04-2005 05:43 PM

bump!

I can email songs to people, asides from the My Dying Bride. It would be too large a file.

blueyxd 02-04-2005 06:58 PM

ok, I'm 14th in que for the MDB song.. which is 11.5 mb, and which I would rather do..
and 7th in que for Dream Evil, which is 5.5 mb.. which will probalby arrive first.

also with me being on dialup, this could take a while, so no dib just yet, but I do have sources

Devil Inferno 02-04-2005 08:32 PM

Sorry, but i've got it first.

MDB - The raven and the rose 8:12

Intro - Very irritating distorted trebles on the guitar, but when the downtuned distortion comes in, the song starts off well, and the synths add well to the doomish atmosphere. Nice dobule bass/snare/tom fills by the drummer over here. The growled vocals, are quite ok, nothing very suprising, but a great song so far.

at 2:25, the song kind of slows down a little, i'm hoping for some mdb cleans here. Yes! at 2:38, the clean vocals come in. It starts to get depressing. always mdb has its cleans being the depression factor.

at 3:13, very nice palm muting over here, and a pick slide.

at 4:02, the song speeds up, with choirs at the back, and it gets intense over here.

at 5:15, it turns back to slow again.

at 5:51, it really slows, to piano only. a good break from the distortion.
a part where it allows tears to flow (if applicable), and end, from the intense part just now.

at 6:55, the guitars come back in again, and fade away. this part is kind of redundant, should have ended at the pianos.

anyway, a great song, just had to do away with the swearing, and it'd be great.

7.5/10

Suggestions :
Alice in chains : Them bones (grunge metal)
Carcass : Black star (melo death)
Tourniquet : Melting the golden calf (melo thrash)
Dark Lunacy : Devoid (symphonic death)

Kurtz 02-04-2005 08:56 PM

Alice in Chains - Them Bones

Starts with a palm muted riff and Layne doing his signature little yelp. Singing starts, nice riff in the background, I'm really liking the verse. Layne's voice is pretty good here, really good actually. Short chorus, but good. Again with the yelping. I like the way Layne sings the verses, it goes perfect with the guitar. Jerry starts off with a solo, it doesn't dissapoint so far with the verse riff in the background. So far not really fast, more melodic. Now it gets a little quick, nothing godspeed though. Wah at the end, great solo in general. Another verse, another chorus, Layne repeating the line, "I feel so alone, gonna end up on big ole pile o' them" till the end, a few seconds later.

In overall, a great song by Seattle's finest; guitar was excellent, vocals were top notch [in Layne's case], but the drums were pretty basic, and I didn't really notice any bass.

8.5/10

Bartender 02-04-2005 09:10 PM

Just a post to indicate that I edited it in above, in case you hadn't noticed. I'll go check out the Pit one.

Dancin' Man 02-04-2005 09:17 PM

Stormtroopers of Death - Milk

Never heard of them.

Begins with some bass. Then loud guitars and a sort of growl. Then the real drums come in with a ton of snare that is way too loud and keeps going. Then the vocals which are punk sort of chants. The song is alright when the drums go away but then they come back and it just sucks. Too much snare that is not cool. Mastodon has cool snare work, this band does not. Song is repetitive.

At least it's short. Nice and short.

2/10

I won't look for anymore.

Kadenzza - Monohoke - God of Worm (Awesome Japanese prog metal)

If anyone has heard this, I'll set up another song.

Hey all you out there, do my FL. Now.

Huber 02-05-2005 12:06 AM

I'll take dibs

Huber 02-05-2005 12:22 AM

Kadenzza - Monohoke - God of Worm

For about the first 1:30 seconds of the song it kind of alternates between two parts. One part being slower with a riff, basic drum beat, and some kind of keyboard effect in the background. The other part is far faster, with a heavy growl.

at about 1:30 it goes into a nice riff and a neat double-bass beat and then you hear a very nice guitar solo all up until about 2:30.

Then you get a dose of acoustic guitar work, with some percussion and keyboard work in the background. At about 3:40 some dialog is added to the slow acoustic guitar part.

At 3:23 your smacked out of the acoustic guitar and fall right into a huge guitar riff and it stays mellow with a bell ringing in the background until about 4:53 where you hear the same alternating of slow/fast part from the begining.

Then it all ends with some bells ringing and a choir note.

I enjoyed the listen, but it wasn't all that great of a song. I'll give it a...

7/10

Primus - Harold of the Rocks
Iced Earth - The Reckoning
Marilyn Manson - The Fight Song

Permanent Solution 02-05-2005 12:24 AM

I have stuff by all three of those bands, so I would prefer something new, but if not I can d/l one of the songs I don't have...

evil ernie 02-05-2005 01:11 AM

Dibs on that Primus song.

evil ernie 02-05-2005 02:13 AM

Primus - Harold of the Rocks

First ever Primus song I listen to, but I know them for having a supposely very talented bassist called Les Claypool. I'm eager to hear how good he actually is.

Song starts off and I immediatly dislike the singer's voice. He's got a thin and nasal voice. He is backed up by a nice funky wahwah riff and some cool closed hi-hat drumming. Very cool sounding introduction (except for the vocals), not the kind of stuff I am used to, but I like it, I somehow like the funky groove of that thing. Interesting shift at 0:33, a more chaotic riff, the guitar sound is very raw, the bass very important in the mix. Then returns to the funky verse, then the chaotic riff again, adding a few not so melodic variations. Aaaaahhhh, a bass solo, as expected :) All right he has the skills. Next is a slow paced guitar solo. The solo isn't my cup of tea neither. It is not melodic at all, sounds like a first take, the shredding part at 3:20 is awful in my opinion. The solo is very long, a little over 90 seconds. They then come back to the verse, and what finally seems to be the chorus, which I described as the chaotic riff earlier. Then there's a weird narrative thing in the end, and then an unexpected, weird finish.

I like the funky part of the song and the rythm section of this band seems really strong. I'm more into melodic and emotive music so that's not my thing really much. They are very creative and original, and I guess they are pretty entertaining live, that they enjoy a lot playing that kind of not so serious music.

I'll give it a 5/10, I won't be listening to this song for long, guess I'll delete it in about a week. I don't think I'll look for some more from them neither. I liked some parts, but that is just not my kind of music.

I recommend :

Ayreon - Day 20 : confrontation (massive prog project featuring a lot of singers such as James Labrie, Mikeal Akerfeldt, Irene Jansen, Magnus Elkwall, etc.)
After Forever - Beautiful Emptiness (kinda goth and power, with a male grunter and a female soprano)
Symphony X - Of Sins and Shadows (progressive power metal)
Adagio - Next Profundis (progressive neo-classical metal)
Bozzio/Levin/Stevens - Tragic (prog rock supergroup)
