I'm not that upset. They were dead to me when they took Crimes off of PIX.
|
Ok, now they are just dead to me. It was inevitable(sp?) that they would sign to a major label.
|
Lolz selloutz
I don't really care, they must've never care about their politics if they were so quick to sign to a major independent then a full blown major. I'll still listen if the music is good. |
It was inevitable.

Lame.

I enjoy their music beyond their 'politics'. |
I feel sick. i really wanted to believe that they were above this kinda ****. when they signed to Fat i pretended it didnt bother me, i mean fat is still (somewhat) punk right. I guess thats really my fault, but still...**** them.
|
It was inevitable.
truth |
ahhh well atleast punk still has integrity with propagandhi.
|
Since I am a bastard, I will exploit this with every chance I get.
|
They've skewered themselves on their former ideals. I'm not judging Against Me! by my opinions, there's plenty of great bands on majors, but by their own (ex-)standards they're complete hypocrites. Everything they say is now suspect and every word that comes out of their mouth is now like a turd falling into my drink.
I've been expecting this ever since they screwed PIX over the Crime EP. |
I guess I'm the only fan that doesn't care.
Sure now their politics are meaningless and hypocritical. But if they still produce good music (ignoring the hypcrocisy of the lyrics), then why give a ****. There is too much weight put on lyrics that people will hate a band that plays well because their lyrics are bad. Music is more important than lyrics, for me. |

Against Me! were a band that had lyrics that mattered. For them to sign to a major contradicts the supposed point of their existence as much as Holiday in Cambodia playing on a Levi's ad does for DK. I can just see the Against Me! commercial now: "Hi! I'm Tom from Against Me! You know, when I'm screaming meaningless platitudes about my supposed anarchist beliefs and faith in the underground punk scene, my throat gets parched. That's why I drink ORANGE DRINK!" |
I really don't care. I just enjoy listening to their music. That's all that really matters to me. I'll still buy their CDs and go to their shows.
I actually don't even know what record labels most of the bands I listen to are on. The music is more important to me than everything else. |
But they also played really good music that was different and entertaining and catchy, hence why they were so easily accepted by us and eventually the major label. The lyrics were icing on the cake that was their great music, and if they continue to make that music I'll continue to listen (but will probably not buy CDs because RIAA stuff is expensive).
|
The lyrics and persona were an integral part of their music. They were more than just some meaningless to fit the tune. Or at least, they were to some people, including me.
I really don't care. I just enjoy listening to their music. That's all that really matters to me. I wish I wasn't, but I'm pretty bummed about this. But I can't just stop loving their music. Reinventing Axl Rose still holds meaning to me, my favorite part of the song was always, "Let's make everybody sing that they are the beginning and ending of everything, and we are stronger than everything they taught us that we should fear," not the basement part. Most of their lyrics from songs aren't even about that.
They are an amazing band, and if they hadn't been going in this direction by signing to Fat first, I would have never heard of them, and they seriously changed my life and inspired me to make music and be more open to different genres. And with SFAFC, they still do. I can tell that they put effort into all they do, that they are passionate about it, and that this is what they love doing. I much rather have a band like that, then one who just has DIY ethics. |
I just wrote this, I hope some of you will agree with it:
You used to write songs that meant something to me Made me believe in punk again, gave me some hope But that all went out the window when you repressed the Crime EP You've moved away from the you of old and I'll have to cope Now you're concerned with the grander scheme You've forgotten what you said, got up and moved on Away from the idea of a perfect underground scene Where everybody's happy and everyone belongs Now your fans will grow in number with every single tour They'll spend less time on your music and more time on their hair Will they comprehend what you used to stand for? Oh Tom Gabel do you even fucking care? Do you think about your ex-ideals, may I enquire? Now you've abandoned all your sweet anarchist rants You blown it all to hell, you've gone and signed with Sire Now you're labelmates with Spongebob Squarepants Now everything you say is suspect, every single word You can no longer make me believe, no longer make me think All that leaves your lips is now only a turd Falling from your mouth, straight into my drink Just another well-oiled cog in the elite system Any integrity you had is gone, your new message is hollow Shaking hands with business mean when you used to resist them Just another strained chorus, another "WHOA-OH-OH" Singing piles of money make you rich and Baby, I'm a Capitalist But though you've abandoned it your old message is not dead You introduced to idea into thought-dreams and there it still exists The place where everyone's belongs will live on in your fan's heads Because I'll still get your records and when you play I'll still go see But I'll remember when you gave me reason to believe As you ride off into the horizon of money and MTV And mark you down as one more fallen at the altar of greed One more band that I loved, that has turned against me |
That was pretty good, Joe. I laughed a little with you said turd.

I almost feel dirty listening to it. |
I'm listening to it now. It's depressing.

We should change this thread title to 'We Laugh at Against Me! (and Break All Their CD's)

I wonder what I would do if I talked to Tom Gabel right now.

I second that.
I wonder what I would do if I talked to Tom Gabel right now.
I might just cry or something. I don't even know. |
