All I have to say is....I love Neil Peart's drumming, he's so awesome. :thumb:
La Villa Strangiato is actually a song i can notice a sginificant diiference from the studio version. Other then the intro improv ripping down the scale, they play it much better and much more rockish then the studio version...but i dont know. Just one mans opinion.

But on the live album the time is the exact same as the studio version. Precision to its finest...
hmmm

I have never heard a live version of the song. I havn't watched the one on Rush in Rio in soo long (is it any different than the studio version?)

Distant Echoes 09-27-2005 03:28 PM

Just pick up some live album of them playing...Exit stage left is probably my favorite. Rush in Rios is alright too...but they all sort of sound the same.

I never really was that big of a Rush fan, I liked a few songs, but that was it. That all changed today. I recieved a copyof 2112 from my uncle and it is amazing. What are some other albums I should check out. Also, what album has Tom Sawyer on it? Thanks for the help.

BludgeonySteve 09-27-2005 05:17 PM

Tom Sawyer is on Moving Pictures. Other noteable albums (excluding 2112 becuase you have it) are Permanent Waves, A Farewell To Kings, Caress of Steel, Hemispheres and Roll The Bones. There are others, but those are my favorites.

Id defintaly recommend Moving Pictures before anything. Nothing but great songs.

I love it so much.

I like Cygnus (meh, long title, mighta got it wrong..)

Artemician 09-28-2005 01:35 PM

Anybody here like the song Natural Science off of Permanent Waves? The live (Rush in Rio) version is my favorite Rush song. I don't like the studio version as much, but it's still very good and I never hear many people mention this song.

Xanadu 09-28-2005 06:58 PM

ah i love "natural science" its so great.

wheels within wheels in a spiral array
a pattern so grand and complex
time after time we lose sight of their way
are causes cant see there effects

stuck in my head now, and lovin it
Hemipspheres is vastly underrated
Hehe, Rush is vastly underrated. But for Rush fans, Hemispheres is underrated. Atleast in my opinion.

clairvoyant 09-28-2005 07:42 PM

The Spirit Of Radio!

Geez is that a catchy song or what...

Rush IS underrated

Hemispheres IS underrated

what is this world coming too!? :(

dr._feelgood 09-28-2005 08:17 PM

Is Rush more popular in Canada than anywhere else? I'd imagine that they're not as underrated in their home country.

BludgeonySteve 09-28-2005 08:19 PM

Bah, Canadians like folk and country music. I'd imagaine that Rush is bigger in Japan and the US than in Canada.

Japan? I never knew they had a following there :amaze:

BludgeonySteve 09-28-2005 08:46 PM

Sure, the Japanese eat all of that prog stuff up. (or atleast more than Canadians! wtf, canada blows)

I agree.....how can they ignore such an amazing band?

Hep Kat 09-29-2005 04:57 PM

yea rush is one amazing band...

Distant Echoes 09-29-2005 05:01 PM

Yea Japan actually has a decent music taste...I dont know anything about canada though except folk music. I couldnt imagine them just ignoring rush though. There probably more popular here and maybe in the UK though.

I heard subdivisions on the radio earlier...I realized it wasnt as bad as i usually critisize it to be; but for that style of song - the intro is weak. It gets better through the song, but I still dont think its near their best.

BludgeonySteve 09-29-2005 05:07 PM

It's not like Canada is a statistic or anything. Canadians are real people and there are a lot of Canadian Rush fans. It's just that the vast majority of Canadians aren't :(

Hep Kat 09-29-2005 05:12 PM

too bad

/sings the blame canada south park song thing...

Maggot Dream 10-01-2005 11:39 AM

5th page!!! Unacceptable.

What do you guys think of the way Rush organizes their longer songs into movements? I think it's cool, it can be interesting figuring out where each movement begins.

rockinbass17 10-01-2005 09:33 PM

I love when bands write songs with movements. Especially prog bands, for then it's almost like classical music. I do believe htat Lee, Lifeson, and Peart are modern electronical composers.

They have a huge following in Brazil; they use the Tom Sawyer as the theme song for McGuyver, and I think that somehow got South America's attention.

geezer6970 10-02-2005 12:53 AM

What is your guys favorite rush song, album?

blue3 10-02-2005 02:39 AM

I've started listening to more Rush. I only have 2112 though, so I guess that's my favorite.
