Is Shakedown Street the only one, or are there more?
Not really. |
that makes no sense...that wasnt even a yes or no question...
|
No, there are not really anymore. Some may slightly resemble a Disco song through as keyboard tone or whatever, but have lean towards another genre more so. I was adressing the final question.
Geez |
Stupid disco corrupting good music. The worst part is that a lot of disco-influenced songs are really catchy and sometimes even good like Miss You by The Stones.
Well to make this a somewhat useful post I personally feel that a jamband needs to definite characteristics. Most importantly they improvise for extended periods on stage, and I also notice that pretty much every jamband has a ton of different influences. Phish has a ton of jazz influence, especially on their 1st album. I know this issue was already resolved but I just felt like getting my 2 cents in. :thumb: |
everybody go to www.cdbaby.com and check out green light...i believe theyre under acid jazz...theyre a jam band though...i know the drummer has a lot of influence from classic rock bands and a lot of jazz while they also take styles from several different cultures and improvise it on stage...most of their cd is live recordings.. post what u think about them

Geez
I heard Tangled Up In Blue a while ago and it sounded like Jerry singing. It was a bit disco-eque in the Shakedown Street tradition I found Phish's Rift and a Picture of Nectar last night, any insight? |

Sure, but I don't think any of them are as Disco as "Shakedown Street.
I found Phish's Rift and a Picture of Nectar last night, any insight?
Best song Picture of Nectar: "Poor Heart" Rift: "Sparkle" |
picture of nectar -"guelah papyrus","stash", and i like "landlady" alot but i guess you could just listen to "pyite" to hear it.im not a big fan of the album rift but id have to say "its ice" and "horn" are probably my favorites from that album. i dont like "sparkle" live because it doesnt vary enough from each time they play it to me, but the studio version is alright.

Cool, thanks
How do they rank in the great scheme of things (aka Phish's discography) |
Low, if you ask me. Both albums are quite inconsistent at times. (IMO)

Yeah. Id say stick with Lawn Boy and Junta |
Id say stick with Lawn Boy and Junta
Definitely, and Hoist. |
Yeah.
Id say stick with Lawn Boy and Junta
i would have to agree with you that the songs on junta are great, but they sound so much better live instead of studio |
Of course man.
Thats bassically understood when youre talking about phish :p I was talking about their studio work, which is whayt I think the question was |
Shameless bump.

Does anyone own Garcia, Grisman & Rice's The Pizza Tapes CD? Is it good? I'm looking for a copy of it right now and want to hear other's opinions.
|
I have it; it's interesting, ocassionally funny, and there's a handful of good songs, but there's better Garcia & Grisman albums.
I could post it in the YSI thread if you want, not right now though. |
That'd be nice if you could, what are some other Garcia & Grisman albums you recommend badmoon?
|
I really like Been All Around this World and Shady Grove. Those would be my favorites.
|
Lollapalooza in Grant Park.
*craps self* The fact that WSP are there is enough to get me to buy tickets, let alone Cake, G Love, Black Keys, Soulive, etc. You goin Badmoon? |
Probably not. I never end up going to anything, and I would suspect that the tickets would be sold out now, or soon; they've been out for awhile.
Drive-By Truckers are there too. :) |
Oh man, it all starts tomorrow!
|
would any of you consider bands like mr. bungle jam? haha maybe a stupid question but my brother is really into jam but i was wondering if mr. bungle could be classified as jam and if not then i don't know..don't nail me to the cross please :-D

I really don't think so. I've never heard Mr. Bungle called a jam band nor associated with other jam bands. (don't crucify me if I'm wrong here) |
Much more of an Alternative band :)
Jam Band isn't really a description (Ex. They Jam = Jam Band), it's more than that; it's a genre or a grouping. *doesn't think that makes sense* :( |
haha i don't know...i bought the cd california and it just reminded me of a lot of jam bands so i was wondering what you all had to say and if you'd heard of them
|

Yeah, I have Disco Volante and s/t, and sure there are one or two similarities, but otherwise, they're pretty different.
|
see i haven't really heard those so i don't know how big of a difference there is between those and california but i do know that they're really expiermental so who knows....* head spins*
