LordDargon 03-08-2004 06:35 AM

I already knew about metal-archives, great site :thumb:

And I am soon going to do a Darkness Descends review, for it i need your help, I need a so-called "unholy pentagram" of maniacal thrashers that paved the way for death. I got: Darkness Descends, Pleasure to Kill, Reign in Blood, and Seven Churches. For the 5th one I'm thinkin Sep's Schizophrenia, not sure. Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks :chug:

New Megadeth Album? lets hope so

CHRIS POLAND Talks About The New MEGADETH Album, Working With DAVE MUSTAINE - Mar. 7, 2004

Former MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland recently spoke to Ricky Garcia of Jemfest Radio about his guest appearance on the new MEGADETH album, tentatively due later in the year through Sanctuary Records. The following are some of the highlights of that interview:

On how he came to be involved with the new MEGADETH album:

Chris Poland: "Dave [Mustaine] gave me a call and asked me if I would be interested in coming down and doing the solos on his latest MEGADETH record, and I was more than happy to do it. So we drove down to Tempe, Arizona and went to Phase Four studios and I think I recorded nine solos — eight of them were electric distortion — heavy, heavy guitar — and then one was a nylon-string, acoustic kind of solo section. But it was all really fun. They had the best gear there — they had a 50-watt Plexi Marshall head with vintage speakers, there was like 50 different vintage guitar pedals to pick from. So I was very excited about the whole thing. And working with Dave, I swear, it was just like I had never left the band. We worked a certain way when I was in the band — he described what he needed here and there. Some of the solos, he let me just do exactly what I wanted, which I had a lot of fun doing, other solos, he basically directed me — like with his finger. While I was soloing, he would move his hand up and down the neck, and I would just follow his hand. It was like a Ouija board or something. I would just follow him and try to emulate where he was going with his hand. We've done solos like that before when I was with MEGADETH. It was like I had never left the band as far as our working situation in the studio. It was great working with him. We're both sober, so it's like, all that added baggage and baloney that was going on with us before wasn't there — it was just the music — and he's actually a really pretty funny guy."

On whether he had kept in contact with Dave Mustaine during his time away from the band:

Chris Poland: "[We kept in contact] on and off, between doing the remixes and the 'Behind the Music' stuff, we'd talk once in a while. It's not like we're gonna start the band up again, but it's great being friends with Dave. He's a good guy."

On whether Dave Mustaine is able to play guitar again in light of the hand injury that caused MEGADETH's split in early 2002:

Chris Poland: "Oh, he's gotten over that. He went for physical therapy, and his guitar playing is as good as it's ever been, if not better. Probably because he's been practicing trying to get it back and didn't realize where he left off and he's probably a better player than he's ever been right now."

On his work on the new MEGADETH album:

Chris Poland: "A couple of my favorite solos was… One of the songs was called 'When Robots Rule', which the engineer at Phase Four broke out this old Foxx tone machine — it's a wah-wah with an Octafuzz built into it — and the sounds that thing made were just amazing, man. I was just blown away. It was a lot of fun. A lot of the playing I felt really good about. The guy that was engineering and kind of co-producing it with Dave was a great guy, so it just all worked out really good."

On whether the album will be released as a MEGADETH album or as a Dave Mustaine solo CD:

Chris Poland: "You know, I don't know myself. I don't know what Dave's intentions are with the record, but I know that, out of the 10 songs I heard, I thought every one of them were great, and I was actually disappointed on a couple that I didn't get to play on, because one of them's a really heavy Bonham/ZEP vibe, and I really wanted to play on that song, but I knew Dave was saving that one for himself."

LordDargon 03-08-2004 07:42 AM

oh man it better be good...

Rattlehead 502 03-08-2004 10:03 AM

sacrifice93.2 03-08-2004 10:24 AM
Show No Mercy (Obviously) and then South Of Heaven.
Both great albums, but a lot of Slayer fans didn't like South of Heaven. I thought it was a great album, and I was listening to it yesterday.

DimebagDarrell 03-08-2004 12:58 PM
yeah, but megadeth won't come back dave said :s. check the forum on the website
yeh im abit confused cauz i heard he said that megadeth wont gona come back but rumors have been going around of the rust in peace line up returning and dave said there is no chance of it happening. But Chris poland wasnt in the rip line up so i think it could be true and plus if he has recorded tracks with dave. I really hope it is true cauz a megadeth comeback would be excellent :thumb:  :) :D

to whomever asked about Testamet and Exodus:

Testament

1. the new order
2. souls of black
3. practice what you preach
4. low
5. the legacy
6. the gathering
7. the ritual
8. demonic

Fisrt Strike Still Deadly are just old songs re-recorded with better sound.

As for Exodus, i am not a fan, but i know the albums people enjoy are:

1. Bonded By Blood
2. Fablous Diaster

Just avoid the album "force of habit".

sacrifice93.2 03-08-2004 02:12 PM

^^^^^^^^
Bonded by Blood is by far the best album by Exodus.
I've got some good news. My buddies and I in my band decided on a couple of cover songs we're gonna play once in a while during our shows. We decided on I Am The Law by Anthrax, and Electric Eye by Judas Priest. You guys think these are good picks, or are me and my bandmates crazy?

ATC 03-08-2004 03:08 PM

i like i am the law..i havent heard electric eye
try electric funeral by pantera(cover of black sabbath)..thats the only song i know that has electric in it..apart from met's its electric.
this is the 1001th post.We Rule!!
buys the titans some beer
ps:i am 13wayz

FrailandBedazzled1979 03-08-2004 04:04 PM

Electric Eye is incredible!!! Make sure you do "the helion" intro though, or it wont be complete. I am the law is cool, but then again im not a huge anthrax fan.

ATC 03-08-2004 04:29 PM

anthrax is cool,man..its like a thrashier pantera in my opinion.

Corporal Compendia 03-08-2004 04:58 PM

If I ever join a band, I'm forcing us to cover Pestilence - Dehydrated... or maybe Chronic Infection.. or.. I dunno.

JMetallica 03-08-2004 04:59 PM

Yes, awesome picks. I like both songs, esp Electric eye. But as frail said you need to play the hellion, too. \m/ awesome.

ThrashMaster27 03-08-2004 11:03 PM

Past the 1000 mark! the Thrash Clan is going strong still. I third the playing of The Hellion before Electric Eye.....it builds up the greatness.

Anyway! Whilst I'm here I'll ask a question. Is No More Color by Coroner any good? I've got Punishment For Decadence and R.I.P. and I love 'em both. I've not heard any Coroner after that.....I heard they mellowed out a bit on the last 4 albums, so I don't know what to think.

If this is the nu-metal band that you were talking about joining earlier, then I think it is most definetly a great plan... of course, even if you were straight thrash those would still be great picks. Rock out man \m/

hell awaits by slayer.
Is No More Color by Coroner any good?
yes! its pretty awesome. ive only got a few mp3's from it but from what ive heard its great. good luck finding it though!!!
and where did you get your copies of r.i.p and punishment for decadence from? i had to order them in at $42 and $45 (ouch).

ThrashMaster27 03-09-2004 12:40 AM

Ouch! I got both mine from JB Hi-Fi for $21 each!

You got ripped off mate.

manuscriptreplica 03-09-2004 12:56 AM

ha! $21 each! thats so bad. doesnt matter.

p.s. i think i may move to melbourne!

ThrashMaster27 03-09-2004 01:10 AM

Good thinking! No More Color is in there for the same price aswell. JB have a suprisingly good selection and most are dirt cheap aswell.

On another note! I noticed that Exodus pulled back a classic song for the new album. One that Kirk Hammett had a hand in writing. Easy to tell it's really early Thrash....sounds very Kill 'Em All like. The tracks called Impaler. Dunno if turned up in any of the EP's they brought out when Hammett was in the band, but it's a good track anyways.

ATC 03-09-2004 03:01 AM

i'm a go download impaler..hang on
ohh and are jason newstead's echobrain and voivod any good?
any recommendations?

DimebagDarrell 03-09-2004 03:46 AM

echobrain is very mello compared to voivod but i still think there a good band i havent heard much voivod but from what i have heard they sound good.

ATC 03-09-2004 04:15 AM

i don't mind the mellow stuff even though i'm a titan,man.
did ya hear about how jason wanted to do a met-voivod co headling concert so fans could see which was better?

metdrummer 03-09-2004 04:38 AM

no ive never heard of that but from what i have heard there no metallica

JMetallica 03-09-2004 04:51 AM

Their thrash was really quite substandard, but when they were trying to do something a little different, i think they pulled it off. Not a great band, but by no means terrible.

JMetallica 03-09-2004 04:55 AM

Oh, and No More Color is still very decent. More mid-paced, laid back thrash. Still thrash, just not the classics that the first two were.

LordDargon 03-09-2004 05:35 AM

Well I don't know how talented you guys are, but if I was you I would just rip the pansy-assed crowd's heads off (this is a Mallcore crowd right?) with something like Under the Guillotine or Raining Blood. Last 30 seconds kills me every time.

JMetallica 03-09-2004 05:52 AM

UNDER THE GE-O-TI! :p Gotta love the accent. If you were to play that song, you'd have to say Guillotine like that! :p
