denboy 06-24-2005 02:39 PM

I find them both extremely boring, and am very confused why they were chosen for singles.. But I hardly think you could call them selling out

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 02:42 PM

I still think they did, theyd never anything so catchy IMO plus its no were as intense as their past stuff but w/e w/e w/e w/e

I don't really agree with that interpretation of Lateralus, but you may very well be right, I don't know, to me that song is not very easy to understand. What's everyones opinion on what Parabol/Parabola is about? Honestly, and I'm not sure if this has been brought up before, but I think the song is about sex. I don't mean that in an immature way. As a matter of fact, I think Maynard wrote about the topic in a very adult and mature way. I may very well be wrong, but just think about that when you read the lyrics. Here:

Parabol

So familiar and overwhelmingly warm
This one, this form I hold now.
Embracing you, this reality here,
This one, this form I hold now, so
Wide eyed and hopeful.
Wide eyed and hopefully wild.

We barely remember what came before this precious moment,
Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside...
This body holding me, reminding me that I am not alone in
This body makes me feel eternal. All this pain is an illusion.

Parabola

We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment,
We are Choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside...
This holy reality, this holy experience. Choosing to be here in...

This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal all this pain is an illusion.

Alive

This holy reality, in this holy experience. Choosing to be here in...

This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal all this pain is an illusion...
Of what it means to be alive

Swirling round with this familiar parable.
Spinning, weaving round each new experience.
Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this
chance to be alive and breathing
chance to be alive and breathing.

This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember. we are eternal.
all this pain is an illusion.

Mr Herb 06-24-2005 02:56 PM

I think its about something eternal. I think it reaffirms the belief that their is an eternal life after this one.

I bought FTM for 8 bucks at Borders when it first came out thinking "Oh, a good new prog album."

I was extremely dissapointed. My definition of progressive music does not include 5 minute mindless guitar wanking or ambience.

Kage- Glad you liked it. :)
i have no idea on how to work audacity
What are you having troubles with? I might be able to help you, since I'm the one that told you to get it in the first place. :p

Moses 06-24-2005 08:14 PM

Ok, I have a one take vocal thing and it's only the first verse but it's all for your criticism . I'm going to ask not to critique my pitch because I could tell I was sharp from the beginning.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-24-2005 08:19 PM

Dammit! Why don't you just send the segment that you recorded!!

:emo56k:

Moses 06-24-2005 08:20 PM

Is it taking that long? Man.

denboy 06-24-2005 08:21 PM

That wasn't bad actually.... It was actually quite good

I'll have to rerecord it still and do the rest of it. I'm 16 by the way.

Yeah I know your 16, you didn't see our conversation about our ages a few pages back? Most of us are 16. (including myself and Jake)

BlindWriting 06-24-2005 08:24 PM

16 as well.

Oh, cool. I heard your Drapery Falls vox. It was good, but I have one question. Is your voice just really low or do you just have a technique?

That's so wierd how we're almost all 16.....

Darkness 06-24-2005 08:27 PM

Acutually that recording sucked, I was a bit sick when I did it. I've been working on my growl for the past while and hope to get another recording part up... I really want to do some Opeth vocals. :) My voice isn't that low, I'm pretty monotone when I talk though, but I do have a technique for growling.... I'd tell you what I do but its really hard to describe.

My technique for death growls is probably the most common but I can do it forever. Bite down on your finger, then remove it, and push through.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-24-2005 08:33 PM

Kage and Clearvision are both 16 as well. I think almost all the main posters are 16, with the exception of Ben.

27% on the DL...:confetti:

My god.....

By main poster's you mean Tool regulars right? Steerpike is in college and Anti-hero, I think, just got out.

Darkness 06-24-2005 08:35 PM

..I don't know what you meen?

Moses 06-24-2005 08:36 PM

Well, the finger is just a technique for other people when they ask how to do it without it hurting. I don't do it everytime I growl.

NP: Groundhog's Day- Primus

Darkness 06-24-2005 08:40 PM

I'll stick with my technique...

I hurt my finger when I tried yours... :p

Good job.... :thumb:

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-24-2005 08:52 PM

I tried the thumb thing. It sounded funny. I started talking with my throat like that and I sounded like Jar Jar Binks.

And I also meant ITT, we're all 16. There are plenty of people younger and older than us.

In all this time I could have went back, shortened it, and uploaded it again.

Jar-Jar Binks? I don't know how you managed to get that sound trying to do a growl......

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-24-2005 08:58 PM

I got it. Sounds good. You got good quality. I wanna hear more though!!! :p

I got the Jar Jar sound from talking with the same motion that you use for the growl. Bah, it's hard to explain.

Moses 06-24-2005 09:00 PM

Sweet, glad everyone likes it so far.

Also this time I only added a dash of echo.
