haven't heard
mass namedrop for what i like in core Amebix, Anarcrust, Antisect, Extinction of Mankind, Hellbastard, Hellkrusher, Hiatus, Anti-Cimex, DS13, Infest, **** on the Beach, Siege, Stack, Anarchus, Magrudergrind, Nausea, Nuclear Death...
Yeah man, good ****. |
So DSBM in general is complete ****, and rarely will I bother with anything from that movement, but today I downloaded an album that is quite interesting. Aside from Sterbend I really have no interest in this certain "movement", but Austere has released some not so bad tracks that I discovered today. If you've heard Dwelling Lifeless by Sterbend you'll be familiar with the sound (similar instrumentally - pretty snare driven and the riffs don't stray too far from one another, and the vocals are high and distant with little to no aggression to them).
It's of course generic and brings nothing new, but it is appealing to me in some desolate and hopeless way. |
Nyktalgia are pretty good in the genre, don't like Sterbend much.
|
This album is getting better though. It seems to have a lot less filler and annoyingly clanky production, to which 3/4s of myspace black metal bands seem to have. Everything is very well timed, too.
|
I'll look into it, I've been considering getting some Sombres Forets as well.
|
Sombres Forets are a good band. You should also consider checking out Gris if you haven't. Il Etait une Foret is a good cd, also all I've heard by the band so far. The last song on that album is all piano, violin, acoustic guitar and it is absolutely brilliant.
The typical dsbm sound gets tiring extremely quickly. |
Yeah. Sombres Forets get boring after 5 or so minutes, but they're good for a listen every now and then.
|

Eh, it depends. Their second album is better then the first. There are some parts on the second album that are extremely well done and pretty perfect, but I find there is a little something missing, something I can't pin-point. |
remember that time when i thought the title was in french, but it actually was in english? lul
|
hahah yeah
If it makes you feel better, it can be said in both french and english. |
I'm downloading their first album right now, if I like it I'll definitely get the 2nd.
|
Yeah, that album is ok. The 2nd track is really ****ing good, but the rest isn't up to par tbh.
|

Tbh, I don't really group Sombres Forets and Gris with bands like Nyktalgia, Sterbend, Kaeltetod etc.
|
Sombres Forets has some really solid songs, but after a while I have to listen to something else.
|
Dude, Jammie, that Christicide isn't that good. I liked the direction they were going on Apex - it wasn't quite mature, but on their new album they completely cleaned up their sound... it's pretty generic and uninspired. All they have to show for themselves now is poor English.
I'm glad they got rid of that tin can snare sound, though. God, that almost completely ruined Apex for me. |

Just checked out sterbend, pretty decent imo.
|
yeah. I listen to them a lot when driving, and i get so absorbed i often close my eyes.
|
I think Sterbend are a little too obvious Burzum worship, don't care for their vox either. You should also check out Nyktalgia if you haven't Ron.

Hope you have decent airbags. :p |
What's Sterbend like?
|
dude yeah. i was driving home a few weeks ago on some seriously little sleep, and i nodded off while listening to headphones and completely sideswiped a telephone pole. only took off my passenger mirror, but it could have been worse.
|
It's really like Burzum
But I still like them tbh |

I have Peisithanatos, I love it. |
All very mid-paced. Has a really depressive Hvis Lyset Tar Oss feel to it, with higher pitched and more distant vocals. Sticks to a pretty run-of-the-mill depressive black metal sound, but vocally is where it stands out.
|
Vocals are so important to me. I hate it when I hear good musicianship then their vocalist sounds like utter ****.
|
Well, sounds good. Which is a good album to check them out?
|
About Nyktlagia:
I never got passed the first song and last time I tried listening to it, I found the first 2 or so minutes kinda uninteresting, but it finally picked up after that into something good, but after a couple minutes of that went right back into the intro stuff that was dull. I stopped it after that. |

yeah, you'll listen to a track intro and think "this muzik is pretty siqq, good find" and then *dickpunch* |
Well, sounds good. Which is a good album to check them out?
Dwelling Lifeless. The first song (not counting the intro) is so great. Strictly Burzum worship, but still great. |
I tried listening to them but after hearing them rip off Burzum pretty much note for note I didn't bother.
|
I listened to Sterbend about 3 times and then it got boring because it was, like others said, a burzum ripoff.
|
so whats with NSBM bands singing in english when their native language differs? i want to ask rob darken that
|
Hmm, I never thought about that. A lot of NSBM bands do sing in their native language, but I guess it boils down to the fact that 99.99% of NSBM band members are retarded.
|
I have Peisithanatos, I love it.
lol |
thats like the most obscure STD known to man
|
Tbh, I don't really group Sombres Forets and Gris with bands like Nyktalgia, Sterbend, Kaeltetod etc.
They have a couple really good songs. Very tasteful use of keyboards imo. |
lol
What? I d/l'd it. |
their first one is way better
