I got my copy from The End Records' official site (with a shirt!)

NemesisDivina 01-17-2008 08:02 PM

I finally d/led Afflicted's Prodigal Sun last night, it's really ****ing good. I regret not checking this out earlier. I'm not sure if anyone else has heard it, but it's one of those forgotten old school Swedish death metal bands. If you want it, just drop an e-mail and I'll be glad to send you a link.

Luc:
check your rep, funny message.

LifeInABox 01-17-2008 08:02 PM

She. What shirt?

LifeInABox 01-17-2008 08:07 PM

That shirt is sweet, Masscows. I wish they had re-released Imaginary Sonicscape.

masscows 01-17-2008 08:13 PM

The design on the actual shirt is alot smaller than it is on the sample pic thing on the site. It's still an awesome shirt though.

And I have a hard copy of Imaginary Sonicscape that I got for $15

LifeInABox 01-17-2008 08:17 PM

I want to get it on Relapse for $12.
So those extra 5 tracks made you not like it?
They lengthened the album unnecessarily. I mean, I can understand bonus tracks if they're good, but those were atrocious. My judgement on them was something like this:
1. Tristesses De La Lune - Boring attempt at avant garde
2. One in their pride (extended mix) - the shortened version is awful, so extending it was a mistake
13. In The Chapel, In The Moonlight- pretty good song, but not outstanding
14. The Inevitable Factor
15. The Inevitable Factor (alternative vox) - two of the same song, useless since it isn't that great to begin with, vocals or not
Without those tracks the album flows so much nicer.

I've heard it

I told you the old school Swedish/Finnish death metal stuff was where its at. I've got a few more albums like that one, that kind of stuff has become my new obsession.

Glad you liked it, whore it around, i told you it was good. Om was awesome so we're 3 for 3. Gtfo AIM.

btw ITP stands for Into the Pandemonium not the Death album, that album is almost flawless i don't have a negative word to say about it.
Starting to get more into Mental Funeral; felt it might be an album that would grow on me as it didn't impress that much on first listen but I'm enjoying it quite a lot now.
I actually prefer it to Severed Survival.

So separate the bonus tracks from the album proper.

rattlehead42147 01-17-2008 09:07 PM

I'm digging the **** out of Once Was Not right now. I've always liked it, i think it deserves more praise. the softer part on "the pestilence that walketh in darkness" is so cool. not what you'd expect from Cryptopsy, but then again, look at them now.

Tyler 01-17-2008 09:09 PM

The drums and vocals ruin that album for me. It's horribly mixed and hard to listen to.

LifeInABox 01-17-2008 09:10 PM

Severed Survival > Mental Funeral

rattlehead42147 01-17-2008 09:10 PM

the production is bad, I'll give you that. Mine is pretty fuzzy and static-y at times, and I ripped it directly from the original disc.

masscows 01-17-2008 09:10 PM

I heard a couple songs on it and thought they were good. Lord Worm's vocals were seriously WTF though, I have no idea how he degraded so much. He just sounds like he's barking the same thing over and over with no interesting patterns or variation.

LifeInABox 01-17-2008 09:11 PM

Isn't that kinda what all his vocals are like for the most part?

masscows 01-17-2008 09:12 PM

Not really at all.

LifeInABox 01-17-2008 09:13 PM

Yes, really, alot.

masscows 01-17-2008 09:17 PM

Well, on NSV he changes pitch alot (mostly using mids, but goes low and high abruptly all the time), does alot of really cool patterns, and places his vocals in spots that enhance their effect, as well as the sort barking. On the songs I've heard on OWN, he just does the same thing over and over.

edit: and I'll add that his typical "barking" mid growl sounds really bad on OWN, whereas on NSV it sounded great and it wasn't even the only thing he did.

rattlehead42147 01-17-2008 09:24 PM

I ****ing love it on NSV how Lord Worm does crazy sounding stuff, ie on Phobophile when it kicks in there is a certain part where it literally sounds like he sings "eeeeeyiyah!" during the verse, it sounds great though.

Tyler 01-17-2008 09:24 PM

His vocals on OWN were bad because they asked him to sort of bridge the gap between his old style and DiSalvo.

Plus I mean Worm's vocals tend to either rule or suck complete ***. There's no real middle ground.

rattlehead42147 01-17-2008 09:26 PM

I've never heard Mike's vox. Obviously they aren't going to be as good as LW's but how good are they?

Tyler 01-17-2008 09:27 PM

They're not good at all. Dry shouts, boo. But the music he's going over was pretty terrible so it's irrelevant.

masscows 01-17-2008 09:27 PM
His vocals on OWN were bad because they asked him to sort of bridge the gap between his old style and DiSalvo.
why the flying **** would they do that :S

this is kind of random, but i have to applaud Cryptopsy for coming up with the title "None So Live." I don't know why, I always thought that was clever lol.

NP - (Intro)/And Jesus Wept
I actually prefer it to Severed Survival.
I want to get hold of SS at some point for definite; the guy I ripped MF off says he thinks SS, though he enjoys, is too derivitive of Scream Bloody Gore, whereas Autopsy developed more of their own 'sound' on MF. I do like I've heard off SS (Gasping for Air, Service For A Vacant Coffin).

rattlehead42147 01-18-2008 07:17 AM

if you like, i can send it to you Vomit. I do kind of agree with what that guy said, MF does have its own sound to it, but SS isn't a SBG part II or anything, imo its equal or better than SBG.

Deth 01-18-2008 08:25 AM

Severed Survival is definitely their own thing, but I would agree that they grew into themselves with Mental Funeral. I still prefer SS though.

Tyler 01-18-2008 04:50 PM

This Decrepit Birth is a lot better than their last one. The drums sound like *** though.

Then again, what would you know about metal, subhuman?

i was just saying that to myself after i started listening to it
This Decrepit Birth is a lot better than their last one. The drums sound like *** though.
worth checking out then? I figured it would be horrible.

Toaster 01-18-2008 05:09 PM

The drums sound good, it's just that they sound the exact same as on every other well-produced metal album.

Tyler 01-18-2008 05:14 PM

They could have less click. It's good Josh. Not great but for Decrepit Birth it's solid as hell .

AA-12 01-18-2008 05:16 PM

Hm, I dunno, I might dl it then. I'm in desperate need of new decent metal.

Toaster 01-18-2008 05:17 PM

he's just kidding its actually great
This Decrepit Birth is a lot better than their last one. The drums sound like *** though.
Drums almost never bother me when I listen to bands, I don't pay as much attention to them as I should I guess. Except on Elvenefris; some songs sound like the drummer was trying to do way too much.

LifeInABox 01-18-2008 08:40 PM

Still an awesome album, though.

i am the robots 01-18-2008 08:58 PM

Can we stop talking about gay, overrated death metal yet?

rattlehead42147 01-18-2008 08:59 PM

I got my copy of Season of the Dead today which is cool. I already had it but my d/l version was **** quality. I ordered the first Amorphis album too which I've never heard but it sounds pretty ace, a lot heavier than TFTTL, and a less folky it seems. Finally my copy of Dark Recollections is on its way, which I'm stoked to own, seeing as my d/l version once again lacks quality/skips.
