PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 07:53 AM

Anytime..... Those abbreviations get me a lot, and I've had to ask many a time.

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 08:43 AM

Toast Machine is pretty good.... Pretty groovy! Just listened to them, and I'm very impressed.

Accentopus 10-05-2004 08:45 AM

I love toastMachine. I have now recommended them to everyone. They are brilliant

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 08:51 AM

I'd like to see the drummer come out more.

gaslight 10-05-2004 08:55 AM

So yeah I'm really excited about jamming with my old band today, we hadn't played together in a while but we still sounded pretty tight, I've got heaps of song ideas and yeah, could be something to work with :D.

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 08:57 AM

Sounds spectacular! What do you guys play?

gaslight 10-05-2004 08:59 AM

Well, the songs we have now are pretty much heavy and riff-driven, but in general the idea I have is for a band that plays hard, fat riffs but balances it out with melodic parts inbetween and some fun with time signatures etc. I also want to abuse my effects pedals.

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:00 AM

odd time signatures? .... like 7/16.......

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:04 AM

Have any recordings? I'm bored, and have time to check into things.

gaslight 10-05-2004 09:05 AM

Haha nah that's a bit too experimental for us :p.

I'm talking more about straight-forward hard rock that has bits of other things thrown in for variety.

The only time signatures I can compose in are 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 and 7/4. So that's the range for the moment :). Basically I just want us to play the way we can, like, use lots of techniques that we have and whatnot. It won't change the world of music or anything, but I just want tight songs.

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:09 AM

I still think you should go 7/16 at around 700bpm!!!! hahahahahahaha
You would die trying to play it!

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:10 AM

I'm still trying to get my guitarists away from KoRn and the like.

nisakss 10-05-2004 09:15 AM

Good morning everyone.

gaslight 10-05-2004 09:15 AM

'Night everyone, got to go check out the Music College in the city early tommorow morning :D.

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:18 AM
'Night everyone, got to go check out the Music College in the city early tommorow morning :D.
Good luck with that!

ShelBel 10-05-2004 09:19 AM

G'Mornin!

What's the topic of the day? I'm too lazy to go back and read all the posts I missed.

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:21 AM

Basically, Gaslight and I have been chatting about pedals, his band, and time signitures. Then Nisakss woke up, and Gaslight went to sleep.

ShelBel 10-05-2004 09:23 AM

Sounds compelling. :amaze: ;)

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:25 AM

Yes.... You at work Shel?

ShelBel 10-05-2004 09:27 AM

Cha. Here at the ol' Computer Commons, keeping an eye out for surfers of porn and helping the clueless. Thrilling. Not!

And I'm bummed, because I want a cup of coffee- and left my $ in my other jeans. *cries* I NEED CAFFEINE, DAMMIT!

If you didn't drink anything with caffiene, you wouldn't need it...

ShelBel 10-05-2004 09:32 AM

I *like* it! But you know you're right. I really only have abot 1 cup of coffee a day, I use it mainly to keep my hands warm here in the Commons (perpetual freezing problem in here). I should switch to herbal tea or something.

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:33 AM

Or a space heater..... or those nifty little paper bags with nuclear waste or something in them that gets really warm..... or coffee.....

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:37 AM

I need a job.... *sigh*

ShelBel 10-05-2004 09:40 AM

So go and get one. ;) (Yeah, I'm a smartypants.) What are you looking to do?

nisakss 10-05-2004 09:42 AM

So I played yesterday a friend's Carvin LW 70, or something like that, and it's a great bass. Very woody, yet with crisp highs, I really loved it. Anyone here owns one?

But what annoyed me is that the guy just started playing bass and his parents gave it to him (he's already 29 and still parent-dependent, and he works  ). Two months playing and he already has a 1000+ bass. Well, the only thing I enjoyed was that I really pwned him playing :D

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:42 AM

I tried to work at the local guitar shop.... They didn't need anyone.
I tried to apply at the local hockey store..... "come back in four years"
I don't want to bag groceries or work fast food, unless it's chili cheese dogs....
Is only 14....

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:45 AM

I've earned my basses..... My parents bought me first though.... 200$ Ibanez GSR... I've bought my 300$ Cort fretless, and my 220$ Trace Eliott Combo, my cord, and several sets of strings... And all of my upcoming projects will have to be self funded as well.

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:46 AM

I do currently have 100$ though.....

ShelBel 10-05-2004 09:46 AM

I hate that.

I know a guy who traded his Warwick Fortress for a snowmobile- and the guy he traded it to is GIVING the Warwick to his kid, who is the younger brother of the drummer of the band- and the DRUMMER is 19.

Grrrrr....

Espbassor 10-05-2004 09:47 AM

Bagging groceries or working fast food is like the only options for a person your age to get into the job world. Some of them might even have you wait a year with that. If you want a job, don't be picky, you'll end up hating any job after a while :D

Dude, if you really don't need to work, don't. You'll have the rest of your life to work, and you should make good use of your age, and the fact that your not still expected to work. Believe me, work sucks, well unless you become a musician, a famous one that is. :amaze:

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:53 AM

I'm only planning to work until I get a 6er, small rig, some upgrades for my GSR, and an EQ pedal.
That may take awhile.....
Around 660USD not counting the rig..... probably 1,000 USD for the whole thing... divided by 7 (approx amount per hour)

around 143 hours of work..... ouch...... more than 6 full days of work.....

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:54 AM

I guess I'll have to keep my informal business going.... fixing guitars.....

Espbassor 10-05-2004 09:55 AM

^Yeah keep doing that, then turn it into a formal business later :p :thumb:

PaulSimonon 10-05-2004 09:56 AM

I'd like being a luthier. My kind of job, working on making something that will mean a lot to people.
