Those threads are usually not allowed, but somtimes they're accepted. Maybe a moderator thought thatt that guy had already answered your question and felt it should be closed.

Riva 12-18-2006 04:57 PM

The question was answered when I closed it. Shadows must have ninja posted.

Kage 12-18-2006 04:58 PM

It was a case of mistaken video identity.

I'd like to make a proposal. Can we allow tablature discussion in here? I mean I'm sure most of us would be in agreement regarding the relatively stagnant state of R&M and it's not like there would be thousands of tablature requests or threads made. Hell, I wouldn't doubt there'd be more than 3 a week...

Plus I'm sure we could help people a helluva lot faster than people who post in the actual tab subforum. Just an idea, what would it hurt?

AA-12 12-19-2006 09:56 AM

It would hurt Mother Russia.

Would anyone be opposed to me running a Top Albums of 06 thread similar to Dave's Sputnikmusic one?

^^^ Without looking I can make a guess that it's spam or the thread is too big. I have no idea though, just educated guesses.

It was an experimental movement to clean out the "official thread" mentality, but it didn't really work in the end.
im just wondering why a bunch of the old major band threads got closed
Because they were turning into self-contained community threads. When there was a slow day, the threads would turn into every day conversation.

Whale and Wasp 12-27-2006 04:45 PM

ooh ok i found it strange, cause it just seems like they had good discussionas in them and were randomly cut off in october, then new ones were started again
It was an experimental movement to clean out the "official thread" mentality, but it didn't really work in the end.
...I still say that they killed the forum a bit. The Official threads helped create a community feeling, but I miss seeing new threads of my favorite bands sometimes. :(

/is in favor of trying to clean out that mentality again

Tyler 12-27-2006 04:47 PM

Well it was fine in some cases, but in the Children of Bodom thread, for example, it was totally out of hand.

The majority of that thread consisted of (and still consists of)

Hey, sup. I got a new [somethingunrelatingtoCOB] today
oRLY? Sick. My girlfriend dumped me
Check out band [band that sounds nothing like COB]

Jacaranda 12-27-2006 04:48 PM

is there going to be a 100 best users of '06 poll?

yeah, thats understandable in those cases. however it seems pointless to blindly close all of them....idk, just my thoughts.
Yeah, I agree. It was fun for awhile but it pretty much just happened that the threads were locked, new ones were created and within a week or two it was back to how it was. We'd have to go back to the drawing board to find a way to prevent that from happening, and I don't really have any ideas at this point.

Although I think the forum is moving along a bit better now than it was at the middle of this year.

3074326 12-27-2006 04:56 PM

There'd be no way to do it without a huge amount of users hating it and killing the place's activity even more.

By activity I mean the amount of new threads made.

It's all Metallica's fault.

I can understand having official threads for extremely popular bands, but I have no idea why we have an official Dredg thread (for example). They're my favorite band and all, but honestly, do we need an official thread to get rid of the unbearable amount of Dredg threads that would be made every day if we didn't have the official thread..?

The reason that the first official thread was made was because there were a ridiculous amount of threads made every day for that artist. Now we just make them because a band doesn't already have an official thread.

Tyler 12-27-2006 04:58 PM

That's why they were cleaned out. People were so worried that their beloved OFFICIAL threads would be closed that they'd more or less shoot the **** to prevent it from happening.

Apocalyptic Raids 12-27-2006 06:08 PM

One of the problems is that people still have the habit of going back 5 pages to bump that _____ thread that no one cares about anymore, because a year ago if you made a new one you would get about ten people saying "there is already a ______ thread use the search function noob "

That's not the whole problem, but I think discouraging people to bump inactive "official" threads would be a step in the right direction.

3074326 12-27-2006 06:41 PM

Or close the official threads that become inactive for a couple days? Or close the ones that have no real discussion after a couple days.

After saying that I'm sure none of them will be inactive for a couple days..

Nostalgia 12-28-2006 07:06 PM

Just leave it alone. Didn't we try closing all the threads that got big and became a community thread? Look at the CoB thread; the people in there cannot go 5 posts without changing the topic to something guitar-related, and if their thread was closed, you don't think someone'd just create another one a week later?

I don't see what the problem of this situation is. Do people actually care that threads get big and people talk about useless things? The banning of general talk in band threads will never work.

Now say that we do close all the big threads like last time, you don't think there's going to be a lot more complaining like before? If we do the same procedure as last time, we're going to end up with the same result.

3074326 12-28-2006 08:21 PM

That's why we're not doing it the same way if we do anything at all. We kind of mentioned that earlier. No matter what we do it's probably not going to work.
