Well, I'm home all month, and aside from casual part time work, pretty much available whenever. Just give me 24 hours heads up. Or whatever many number of hours it takes you to get here. |
Just bought a Peavey Cirrus BXP 5. So ****ing awesome.
I haven't been really into solo bass in a long time. What should I learn for kicks? |

Learn Continuum too that's a beautiful Jaco tune also. |
am i wrong for saying jaco is boring as hell?
|
It's not really important whether you like him or not, no-one has to like anything.
|
It's not really important whether you like him or not, no-one has to like anything.
well yeah but if you wanna be like that nothing said on this entire forum or internet for that matter is important I was more like, just stating that Jaco is boring and hoping someone would give their reasons why they like him and then I would rebut with the reasons why I don't like him and make a joke about dying from a karate chop and you know there would be some discussion and stuff |
It's true that nothing said on this entire forum is important.
I'm trying to decide if I want to shell out $26 to see Owen Pallett in a couple of weeks.

It's true that nothing said on this entire forum is important.
i know but that doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss |
I'm not sure anyone is actually that interested in reasons you dislike Jaco.
|
No-ones interested in what anyone really dislikes/likes/or would hump/not hump with a 10 foot pole...
|
Most famous paintings are boring as **** because they don't move or really do anything besides stare at you but it doesn't change the fact they are beautiful representations of the once vivid and unadulterated emotions running from the frantic mind of the artist into a language as universal and understood as art. That being said Jaco's music is more like an artistic and introspective musical revelation within himself that he perpetuates through an instrument just as, if not more, honest than his voice would ever be. What it comes down to with music is for expressing the unexpressable and I can't help but respect and admire those that breach the barrier. And for that I respect him.
It has EVERYTHING to do with the mic.
Do some research on polar patterns, this makes a huge difference in low end response. I suggest your singer gets to know microphones like the back of her hand so she can develop good microphone technique and adapt to the microphone available. For example if you're using a large diaphragm condenser mic with a carioid or wide cardiod polar pattern, she can increase her low frequency response by simly getting close to the mic. The Oktava looks like it should record vocals fine. Also, even though that 4x4 room is designed to absorb low frequencies. It won't make one iota of difference on vocals. Unless idk, she's singing at the wall with a mic behind her  Also #2: It's more to do with the mic pre's that the microphone is connected to rather than the pre amp in the mic (it matters too, but not as much). Like, a Class A mic pre, like in many of the presonus interfaces, will eat the **** out of your typical interfaces pre amps. What's your friend using as an audio interface?
1) It's actually my vocals that are the issue, although I've concluded that my singing is probably the biggest part of it. 2) He uses a Behringer 12-channel mixer and a rackmount M-Audio Firewire interface. |
Jaco's style was varied in the jazz genre, from freeform to fusion, so if you don't like the genre so much, you really wouldn't enjoy his relatively experimental jazz approach to his solo work.
