Trintar_VIII 07-18-2005 06:08 PM

faith, what do you play (on the grudge) for the electronic parts? My friend and I play that song a lot, and my toms just aren't giving the electronic sections of the song any justice.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-18-2005 06:09 PM

If you have decent recording capabilities again, record whatever you can, man!

The Grudge- I could probably try and record it right now. At least part of it. My tone will suffer greatly though, due to my lack of good distortion. :p

Futuro 07-18-2005 06:12 PM

something heavy on a turned off snare, and then i will over lap with bongos and a djembe.

Trintar_VIII 07-18-2005 06:15 PM

I guess I need to invest in some bongos and a djembe then. I was looking on ebay for some simmons pads and found 5 of them for $250 (or somewhere around there), but never got around to putting a bid on it.

Futuro 07-18-2005 06:18 PM

have you played the simmons? there are better triggers IMO

Trintar_VIII 07-18-2005 06:21 PM

No, I haven't played them, but I knew D.C. used them. So I figured that would be the best way to get the same sound as he does, though they weren't the same numbers as his. I still will look out for them though, I've found them to be quite interesting and have always wanted to play on them.

Dude3 07-18-2005 06:29 PM

In a sec, I'll try to send in a sound test recording. Like if I need to alter the settings a little. I'll just play a few bars.

Futuro 07-18-2005 06:31 PM

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-18-2005 06:34 PM

I just recorded the first 3 minutes of The Grudge. It's actually going better than I figured it would. I would have done it all, but you know, my mom walked in "Hey do you want a drink?"

NO I'M FUCKING RECORDING YOU WENCH!!!

It's very hard to get the rythm sounding good when it's just guitar, because you have to be spot on.

I'm gonna upload it to my soundclick, so I shall have it up in 10-15 minutes. for your listening pleasure.

Trintar_VIII 07-18-2005 06:36 PM

Yeah, I figured he had an expensive module of some sort that he was using, thanks for clearing that up. I'll still look into the pads though, just in case they come in handy some time.

Dude3 07-18-2005 06:56 PM

I'm not gonna do a soundcheck tonight. I forgot how to convert the files, and I'll deal with that tomorrow.

Syncratic 07-18-2005 06:56 PM

Hey, all...I'm seriously reconsidering recording vocals. I recorded myself singing the first verse of Judith...and I sound like a ****ing five year old...I've always sounded like that on tape, so.........

Dude3 07-18-2005 07:03 PM

I know. We all think that we may be able to sing. Then we record ourselves, and we get a little suprise.

I think this has happened to everyone.

Futuro 07-18-2005 07:30 PM

i bought this tool cover cd, it has some crap on it, there is Death Metal version of reflection done by Traslation collapse. it sounds like ASS

Dude, try and record the package on drums whenever you can, send it to me then and Ill add the bass

I can't wait until I can dish out the cash and get a module and some pads. I'd like to have a hybrid kit like his. I think it's really cool.

That sounds really bad in my head.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-18-2005 08:57 PM

Ok, someone tell me what you think of the track. I'm hoping it's just me being hard on my self, but I felt very off in some sections. :-/

Mr Herb 07-18-2005 09:18 PM

Its good jake

Thats a killer deal on Simmons pads. I use Roland PD-9's and I bought my used for about 100 bucks a piece. Carey does use a MC505 among other things. The MC505 has been replaced by the MC909. I use a Roland SPD-S instead as I can create just about any sound since I have a laptop integrated into my kit.

Electronics built into a acoustic drum set is KILLER! It adds so much and takes away just about any limitation you can think of.

Daven 07-18-2005 10:17 PM

how much does you kit costs?

I tried some amazing rolands at my drum shop the other day. These things already had a Tabla setup loaded in. That alone opens up the possibility of mimicking some D.C. sounds. (or should I say A.D.)

The Grudge is up. :-D
You have some riffs wrong, well, from the way I play it atleast. Like the second riff, is a F instead of the C you are playing. So it's "D,E(f),D,D(higher),D,E(f),D,F"

And (f) means flat. And E(f) is the first fret in drop D.

I mean, I might be wrong, but I jam to it all the time, and it sounds fine when I play it that way. Besides that though, great job.

+zero+ 07-19-2005 12:15 AM

i have a sonor 2001.. proud to have a sonor thanks to danny. my first drumset was an old classic sonor.. it was pretty beat but i loved it

Benny_G 07-19-2005 01:30 AM

hey guys, i doubt whether this has anything do do with blairs recent post, but anyway...

"...or maybe it was Friday), a guy named Joe (not Ron!)"

http://www.errantyears.com/1998/nov98/000447.html:
"My mistake, I meant to comment to you Joe, not Ron, I must have been confused."

hey jake. nice job there, there are a couple things i want to point out. The other poster was right. you're playing that one riff wrong. it goes to D# (6th string 1st fret) instead of C.

when playing the open D riff (wear the grudge) you are muting the string after you hit it. Adam only mutes at a certain spot. The other notes need to ring out.

after the first verse that riff (humbled again) the notes do not ring out together, don't play them like chords.

at the heavy part it should be played like this
e|----------------------------------------------------------|
B|----------------------------------------------------------|
G|----------------------------------------------------------|
D|-12-----10----10----3--5p0---12-----10----10---3-5p0----|
A|-12-----8-----10----3--5p0---12-----8-----10---3-5p0----|
D|-12-0-0---0-0-10-003--5p0---12-0-0---0-0-10-003-5p0----|
lol oh, and are getting yelled at by your mom in that recording? i almost fell over my chair laughing. Only cuz that used to happen to me on a consistent basis right in the middle of something really important, like recording.

EDIT: Here you go jake i forgot I had this. I tabbed the Grudge out.

That's my favorite Tool song.

I may have to kill someone.

Futuro 07-19-2005 08:51 AM

they made it all of 4 minutes to  ^

anyway i was playing to the grudge today, and i found out i cant play it all, my feet arent fast enough to do the rolls on the bass drum :upset: at right around 1:19, he does a roll with his feet, faster than what i can play.

Syncratic 07-19-2005 09:04 AM
They cut the song to only 4 minutes long...
thats the jist of it. that band HIM covered prison sex.

Hmm, the question is, is it any good?

I quite like their love metal album. There are some interesting ideas on there, though some of it is a little too 'made for teenage girls' if you know what i mean (which you probably don't but i don't really know how to explain it)

I know what you mean...the only people I know who like them are, in fact, teenage girls and a male douchebag.

Futuro 07-19-2005 09:17 AM

i dont listen to HIM, everything seems to ride on that fukin singer, but he isnt all that great.

edit to below: im on dial up :upset:

Syncratic 07-19-2005 09:20 AM

Faith...can you send me that Tool cover album over AIM sometime? I really wanna hear the Reflection cover.

Four minutes....bastards.....

clearvision 07-19-2005 09:21 AM
I know what you mean...the only people I know who like them are, in fact, teenage girls and a male douchebag.
 thanks.

It seems you don't know what i mean though...it just becomes so over the top with the whining about love.

The singer gets alot of respect from me, although he is a bit fo a fool, he writes all of their music (which includes the sacrement's piano line) so that is good.

Are you sure? That's not that fast, I just tried it.

Do you play heel up or down?
