Spaceman Spiff 01-18-2010 02:18 PM

I like noise in a pop structure that is catchy, like Brainiac. Also punk rock.

Epidemechanical 01-18-2010 02:22 PM

yeah i dont like straight noise but music that has a lot of noise elements is awesome

like glitch electronica and really heavy industrial music

they use noise

but in the context of another type of music

Epidemechanical 01-18-2010 02:24 PM

i just really like music made with trinkets and gizmos and whirlydigs

Spaceman Spiff 01-18-2010 02:31 PM

My next album will be written and recorded on a prepared guitar because who doesn't like trinkets and whirlydigs? I just like them attached to things I know how to use already.

A "prepared" instrument, it can be any instrument, is one that you have prepared with materials to achieve sounds that you could not otherwise. Sometimes it's for a percussive sound, but everyone will do it differently.

That's not actually my guitar, nor do I actually plan to make an album of prepared guitar. However, for your enjoyment, here is a video of some prepared piano.

fatbandit 01-18-2010 03:12 PM

Hell yes. We studied John Cage's prepared piano stuff at school. I thought it was awful at first, but that kind of twentieth century art music opened me up to loads of other things, by pushing what I thought of as music a bit. I went through a MASSIVE noise phase because of it, but now I'm back healthily somewhere in the middle ;)

And FMB, expect an email soon :)

Spaceman Spiff 01-18-2010 03:15 PM

I really like what John Cage has done with music, but more than that, what he has to say about music. It's fascinating to hear him talk about sound and music.

because the dillinger escape plan when they got that vocalist happens to be a completely different bad that sucks. he's a terrible vocalist. and i don't exactly listen to those bands for the vocals either way.

and what's wrong with emperor!

I'll say. It's lightly used, but that doesn't matter. It's a hell of a gift.

I love the symbols on this amp.

I think it should be called Machamp instead. Cause that pokemon was about as ripped as they come.

gaslight 01-18-2010 06:28 PM

Nice looking amp. That's a guitar head by design isn't it?

blacklungfever 01-18-2010 11:47 PM

****

didn't put enough water in the rice cooker, so my rice is kinda crunchy. It's awful.

gaslight 01-18-2010 11:48 PM

Freeze it then try again.

Don't do that.

FunkMetalBass 01-19-2010 09:04 AM

Man, got most of the way through recording last night. I have one more set of harmonies to lay down and one more verse to our song "Ragnarok." I couldn't finish it because that song makes my throat extremely tired and after 8 or 9 times through the first verse, I was done.

I'm going to re-record a bass track as well because I'm not satisfied with the sound of it.

Cue Rail getting all upset about how bass players are anal about tone.

Speaking of awesome tone.

FunkMetalBass 01-19-2010 12:54 PM
Cue Rail getting all upset about how bass players are anal about tone.
I'm more upset about my playing than anything. Some sloppy stuffs.

I have distortion on the bass and the recording guy told me that the tone didn't work in the mix at all and that he wanted me to re-record.

Raayl can stfu about tone. If a tone wont mix fairly easily right away, it's a bad tone to be using and it isn't worth the time to mess around and try to correct it.

Epidemechanical 01-19-2010 01:36 PM

lmao

people hate what i say about bass guitar because it invalidates their obsession

and the reason i hate said obsession is because it creates fragmented thinking

IE people making music entirely from the perspective of one instrument

and that problem is AMPLIFIED in this case because the instrument their using isn't a particularly demanding or versatile one (bass guitar)

so it makes everything suck

also

producers need to be able to learn to work with what they have

that guy was an idiot and not very creative if he couldn't use your bass tone the way it is

i learn to work with what i have and what i have is a crappy OLP guitar and a schecter bass

so i make grainy gross distorted beats and then my digitized, fuzzy, 20 dollar guitar tone seems to "work"

so saying your tone "doesnt work" uhh

its bad production really

sorry you had to endure that

Epidemechanical 01-19-2010 01:37 PM

there's another point

quit trying to get "someone else's tone" (cause thats all anybody seems to want to do on bass) and just use your own

les claypool didnt run out trying to copy somebody he just used what he had, a CT bass, and became immortal

same with any of these bassists

they work with what they have
