And that was what I was hoping not to hear. I've tried every timbre adjustment in the book, but I just can't get the bass response or presence of the vocals to come out in the recordings. My first thought was the look at the mic, because I'm recording directly into my M-Audio device. Any good sources of information for recording vocals? |
your voice is not going to change it sounds the way it sounds get used to it
see nasally vocalists who are utter success greg puciato mike patton serj tankian phil collins (lol, ever hear him live?) maynard (lol bro listen to eulogy) a mic isnt gonna change a damn thing some of the best vocals youve prolly ever heard were done with an sm58 or some shit |
also why the fuck would you want bass response from your vocals?
you should be asking for mixing tips for vocals not recording tips the former requires at least a genre and because i know you play heavier music there is no fucking reason ever that you should want low end response thats what you should be avoiding |
My singer's got a fairly nasally voice, so do I, you just deal with it.

Most studio vocals are either a U47, a U87 or some other expensive mic or an esoteric mic choice decided by the engineer based on a myriad of different variables. But. An SM7 into a good pre is a very good choice. |

'sup Liam how are your lats bro
|
My lats are fantastic, just by the by.
|
Where's Brisvegas is it near Brisbane?
|
Damn. I guess I just hate my voice then.
Any recommendations on a good mic pre? |
*S******s at own bad joke*.
Serious comment about this not trying to have a go or anything, but I think for a lot of people spending on some singing lessons would have more benefit than spending on vocal gear straight away. EDIT: Rofl, you can't write "s n i g g e r". |
I'm getting a mic for backups, just a cheapy, I mean live vocals aren't that quality anyway and backup? Hell no, mostly I do 'oohzen ahhs'.
I'll probably get a 57 or a used sm58 if I can get one under $100. Lessons are definitely on my list of things to do. And that was a bad joke. |

i actually haven't been to the gym in 3 weeks i have a pretty serious hand injury in my left hand and im not supposed to lift anything more than like 50 lbs or some shit for a while |

I'm content with my ability to match notes, and I'm getting much better with my control, but I'm not happy with the timbre of my voice. I also really need to start listening to my recorded tracks through my monitors and not my dinky headphones. |

Move with band potentially, keep doing uni or do not. Sigh a sigh. I tried to get back with my ex too, rejected. Fail. I'm actually quite upset by it too, not because it's not happening necessarily but more because I can't think of a legitimate reason why it shouldn't. I suppose that's just my side of it though. 0.o |
I thought you were the one who was telling how shit Brisbane was .
I can't come up with any consolation about relationships other than not to look for any logic in them because that's just not how they work. |
Not that I recall.... It's ok, I just need a holiday I think.
Yeah I'm very well aware of that hahahaha |
People are garbage, the less you rely on other people the better off you'll be.
I suppose Sydney isn't bad, I could do with a holiday too I guess. |

There are several people in both Melbourne and France haha.
I was recommending Sydney for a holiday, I don't think it'd be much of a nice holiday. There are lots of quiet places on the East Coast where you can get by with rent of $150 a week and under, just really cruisey. I got my TLC compressor today, going to spend most of tomorrow learning the ropes of it. |
I have no idea where, I'm thinking road trip to nowhere.
|
Desert brah.
|
I was thinking Darwin for no reason in particular actually haha
|
How about Coober Pedy.
|
Don't be stupid!
Seiously though, I was thinking 2 week trip to Melbourne via probably Coffs, Sydney or Newy (one night each) then Mel for a week and same on the way back. |
I'm not even sure how to have a holiday, I don't know what I'd do.
|
Same thing you do at home, just somewhere else.
|
That sure wouldn't be worth paying for.
|
Yay, sold my Crate Powerblock
|
I bought a Fender Blues Deluxe the other day. It is effing amazing. And it cost me less than my Vox.
I need to sell my Vox now. |
Anyone else hanging out for Bad Religions new album?
|
Anyone else hanging out for Bad Religions new album?
It'll probably be good, but it'll probably also sound like every other Bad Religion album. They're really good at making that album. |

I agree, they certainly have a sound, but they're damn good at it. I have read though, that they wanted to make this one somewhat different and in the last 3 or 4 albums they haven't pushed the envelope much. |

I'll probably check out the new album. |

I'll probably check out the new album.
If you go on their myspace the first two tracks are off the new album. I like then for the same reason I like a lot of the music I listen too. They have a definitive sound but also explore the limits of the genre they make, plus you can listen to most songs and enjoy it for what it is and also for the musicality of it and find subtle little nuances you never heard before. |
Did you listen to my band's new song?
If you didn't: http://www.myspace.com/capitalaitch Lemme know whacha think. We're mixing right now, the whole thing should be ready (mixed, mastered, printed) in about a month. |
i dont understand how you can record a song and not mix it
also why would you upload something that doesnt even have such a basic finish as a...mix? you realize that you probably did mix it and you're incorrectly labeling mixing as mastering or post-production song is ok but vocals get really grating and annoying at the heavier part |
