fatbandit 05-21-2005 09:13 AM

Psh, strings... Good strings website anyone? I need a set of Flat 5s. Impossible to find in the retail shops around here.

Convectuoso 05-21-2005 09:28 AM

I'm good apart from the little case of insomnia I'm suffering from...

Edit:Bit late on the reply

Left Shoe 05-21-2005 09:32 AM

how long without sleeping?

fatbandit 05-21-2005 09:38 AM

Thomastik Jazz Flatwound Bass 5 string
43-136. 43, 56, 70, 100, 136.

Hm, the only ones I found which are the right gauge (I need the 135+ gauge B)...

Anyone know anything about Thomastik? Because this is an experiment, but a damned fucking expensive one. about 40 quid for a set of strings I may hate...

Left Shoe 05-21-2005 09:40 AM

hates a strong word , you might just dislike them =P i say try em out

fatbandit 05-21-2005 09:47 AM

Psh, I think I'll make a thread about it... Just to be different from the hundreds of other 'what strings?' threads around. Someone on here must have had experience with Thomastik.

I also need to stop starting nearly everything I write on here and on msn with 'psh'.
how long without sleeping?
Well it's not really the lack of sleep right now but it's now 3:36 in the morning and I am not one bit tired which isn't normal.

So I am going for a walk, cya Mx

fatbandit 05-21-2005 09:57 AM

Psh, I'm sure you do, but I refuse to enter a psh-ing competition with you.

Left Shoe 05-21-2005 10:00 AM

i dont do it on here unless im mock arguing, but on aim i over use it way too much.

so whast new chris

fatbandit 05-21-2005 10:05 AM

Not much really. Wanting new strings, being owed 500 quid by a friend, trying to transfer all my numbers after changing phone number (man, that's annoying), uhm, missing quality time with Amy, about to do exams. Gah, I really don't want to do GCSEs...

Fatbandit: Why not get D'aDarrio flats?

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/fg=102/g=bass/search/detail/base_pid/100363/

^^ Anyone ever used them? I only have experience with their flat chrome series... I'm thinking of getting them due to gauge.

fatbandit 05-21-2005 10:16 AM

Because all the D'addarios I saw were only 130 gauge.

Radiobass81 05-21-2005 10:18 AM

Take in mind flats have a higher tension (sp?) than rounds, so you don't need a heavy gauge to have a tight B.

:)

BassVirtuoso 05-21-2005 10:20 AM

How's Maiden coming along?

fatbandit 05-21-2005 10:21 AM

But the 135 can't hurt, right? I just want to make sure its all going good tensionwise. It would be a bitch to find out it was the wrong tension after I'd bought a set... And the link you posted was only up to a 105 gauge anyway I believe :)

Radiobass81 05-21-2005 10:28 AM

^^ That was a 4-string set, and that was a set I had in mind for myself :p.

Radiobass81 05-21-2005 10:31 AM

Eddie: I think he refers to me trying to get into Maiden and other metal bands. Currently learning Phantom of the Opera, thanks to Justin :p.

Jamie 05-21-2005 10:32 AM

Radio: You know the Dimarizio's you bought? You said they have 5 wires coming from them, did you just leave the un-needed ones because your circuity was passive? Im curious as im going to make my spector passive

It was four wires.

I can't really recall what me and my neighbor did... All of the wires were used, I think.

Eddie: Good, I guess :/.

Jamie 05-21-2005 10:40 AM

for passive? Were the pickups active or passive?

Radiobass81 05-21-2005 10:43 AM

An idea.

If I learn it by June, I could play the whole song on Basslines. That'd be fun.

Radiobass81 05-21-2005 10:43 AM
for passive? Were the pickups active or passive?
The pickups themselves were passive.
