My dad saw Tom Petty yesterday. He said it was a lot of fun :)
Lucky :(

The same friend who is seeing Petty on Saturday is also seeing Santana on Friday. Double lucky.

Jom 06-17-2005 12:21 AM

Oh, I almost forgot.

A couple days ago I was cleaning the basement of my house and I found my parents' vinyl records. My parents are pretty big music listeners, but there were only about fifty or so records. A lot of stuff I expected: Bob Seger (obviously), Kansas, Boston, Journey, Phil Collins, Pink Floyd, Bruce Springsteen, etc. But, there were a couple eyebrow raisers as well, one of them that comes to mind was Lionel Richie. Reason why I say that is because we don't have any CDs of that artist in our house, just on the vinyl.

I dunno, I just thought it was cool. Some of them were unopened, even.

Illmatic 06-17-2005 12:22 AM

Don't diss my boy L-Rich. Holla.

Jom 06-17-2005 12:27 AM

It's all good, I was just a bit surprised. There were two Richie records, but I can't remember the titles. There were some other miscellaneous records like "A Barbara Streisand Christmas" or something like that, but for obvious reasons I omitted them since they're really not worth the mention.

EDIT:

Oh man, how could I forget The Eagles. They were there too. The most records in the collection was Seger, though

EDIT:

MX is lagging. Time to ask Burt to kick teh MX survur again.

i am the robots 06-17-2005 01:15 AM

All I need to say is I am ready to go to fucking bed, I have been in my computer room since 10:24 PM yesterday removing Trojans and Unwanted Scripts from my comp, I think I can finally blackmail my brother into not looking at pr0n, I now have evidence that somebody has been doing "bad things" on the comp.

Bartender 06-17-2005 03:31 AM

The Eagles are indeed good. And 56K is indeed not.

I have some kind of virus thing on my computer, I think. We have some very odd AV software on the computer now (since I've got back home) apparently; it's fantastic (and really loud) at detecting viruses and telling me about them, but doesn't seem to have any options for actually doing anything to them.

Hah, my dad has most of that stuff too, parents always seem to listen to the same things.

He has some modern cd's too, though. He has most Dream Theater albums, Adaggio, and he stole my Rhapsody CD-R.

munky_magik 06-17-2005 06:49 AM

Oh my. I just got a debit card

ThrashMaster27 06-17-2005 07:42 AM

I remember the 28.8K Dial up days with the massive NOISY external modem.

Anyway. I'm pissed off at the moment. My mates going to Europe for 3 months and I can't even bid him farewell. I hate having no cash.

Joe 06-17-2005 07:50 AM

Good morning everyone

TM- Speaking of dial up... does anyone have Comcast Cable internet (for those who've heard of it)? i'm trying to convince my sister to get us cable internet instead of staying with dial up and aol

So it's 9:40 in the morning here... on a day with no school...

With all due respect, Otherside, I'm not feelin' this post. Unless something mysterious happened overnight, there's no Official Staind thread.

And why did you link him to the rules and the old Yacht club? :confuzzled:

Alright, R&M regulars :

It's the moment you've all been waiting for, we're finally copying the infamous general discussion thread.

This is where we talk about our everyday life, get to know the other regulars. Briefly : Everything that isn't R&M.

...I don't mean that we don't/shoudn't, but if you're first post in a community thread is going to be about Staind, why bother?

Anyways, congratulations on 10k Jom, I'ma scroll back a few pages and look at all the celebratory posts.

Steerpike 06-17-2005 09:40 AM

We got a live one over in the new Atreyu thread. Anybody else want to get in on this?

Dancin' Man 06-17-2005 09:40 AM

Howdy all. English Regents = done.

Otherside 06-17-2005 09:44 AM
Good job i didnt reaserch all those bands but the piont Trivium, metallica ,atreyu put together is better than all the crappy bands you like
That post made me laugh. Seriously.

Steerpike 06-17-2005 10:33 AM

I haven't had this much fun with a troll in a long time. He just doesn't know when he's been pwned.

Well mine's 56K and internal, so it's more or less silent. Especially when you have Halfway to Gone playing loudly right beside it.

It's not illegal to actually talk about rock and metal in here, by the way. It's as good for talking about little bits of R&M that don't really need their own threads as it is for non-R&M.

Dancin' Man 06-17-2005 10:52 AM

My cat has been lying next to my speakers for an hour listening to Emperor. \m/

Arucard 06-17-2005 10:56 AM

Joe's back nigga's. My internet/computer/life was down, so i had to wipe the hard drive and re-install everything.

Steerpike : That guy is hilarious. That will be the best flame thread for a while, and i missed it :(

And i saw Electric Six last night, they are so freaking good live. 3rd time ive seen them, and they just get better. Oh, and the mailing list girl for 'Do Me Bad Things' was feeling me up.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-17-2005 12:08 PM

It was funny the first time, then after that you knew everything that was going to happen and i found it really lame and boring the second time i watched it.

magicbus 06-17-2005 12:39 PM

I didn't find it funny. At all. But that's just me.

Jake, I lost all my Isis, otherwise I'd upload some.

I probably should have included the :p smiley after my sentence, because I was kidding.

But, like clockwork, negative shit sparked up again.

It's all good, though. It's not like this is new.

In other news, when I was working yesterday, there was a new worker there (there are two expediters at the restaurant), and she was a bit clueless.

Needless to say, she wasn't working... period.

The bosses there got pissed because her side got all backed up, so they fired her on the spot

Naturally, this fucked me over because I had to operate both sides of the kitchen and Thursday nights are extremely busy (coupled with the Pistons game being on, so people like coming in for appetizers and stuff)... it was chaos. Working by myself with the cooks in the kitchen for over five hours was hectic and pretty stressing.

Plus, we had BER yesterday and today, so we had to clean out the entire restaurant to make damn sure that everything was up to snuff and passing.

The positive of that disaster is that I didn't have to split my tips, and I'm $60 richer for one night of work

For the record, I've never seen Napolean Dynamite, nor do I think I will in the near future.

What's an expediter?

That's a shame about that girl, though. I guess she got what she deserved.

I always liked working Friday nights by myself. I would get 40 bucks in tips from the waitresses and I was only a busboy. Quite lucrative to work by yourself, if stressful.

Arucard 06-17-2005 01:01 PM

Dude, that unlucky.

Btw, Joe is back for people who cant be bothered to read previous pages.

Jom 06-17-2005 01:04 PM

In a nutshell, the cooks make the food, and the expediters garnish the food and make it look presentable.

Like, burgers are easy, because the cooks make the burger, wrap it, and add fries. All we do is uncrinkle the paper.

But for salads and appetizers, we have to get the dressings, bread, etc.

For soups, we add parsley, green onion, etc. depending on the type of soup. We add the soup spoon and the bread, and we make it presentable (app. plate, doiley, etc.).

We have to call for the soup in the back, and they give it at the last moment (so it stays hot for as long as possible, obvious I know).

So yeah, garnishing and dressings and presentation of food are our jobs. They say that we're the quarterbacks of the restaurant or some crap like that, but the cooks do all the cooking and we just add or modify it.

Like, we have to check to make sure the order is right. If someone orders a chicken fajita salad and they say no peppers, we have to make sure that, duh, there are no peppers in the salad :)

And we have to check the temps of soups, meat, and chicken so that they maintain health standards and stuff to minimize the risk of foodborne illness and all that.

So, again: we make the food look presentable and garnish it if necessary, while cleaning and sanitizing the back of the house and eliminating risks of foodborne illness.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-17-2005 01:16 PM

I figured you were joking, but it's better to apologize anyways. :inappropriatenaughtyemoticon:

Since I brought up the topic of Napolean Dynamite, back when I was in school (in March lol) that movie was the coolest thing around. My history told me and my buddy that if we learned the dance at the end of the movie, he'd give us 50 points of extra credit. I don't think he thought we would actually learn the entire thing, but we did, and I ended up with a 104% in that class. He later on called me and my friend extra credit whores. Oh, and we had to perform the dance in front of our class. :-/ It wasn't really worth it, because I would have gotten an A in that class anyways.

superpeer 06-17-2005 01:19 PM
In a nutshell, the cooks make the food
In a nutshell, eh? That's original, must have a special taste.
Like, we have to check to make sure the order is right. If someone orders a chicken fajita salad and they say no peppers, we have to make sure that, duh, there are no peppers in the salad :)
That sounds like you go through the salad with your hands, to check for peppers. Sorry, just a funny image.
And we have to check the temps of soups, meat, and chicken so that they maintain health standards and stuff to minimize the risk of foodborne illness and all that.
Like with your finger in the soup. Or good old thumbs? Or can you taste everything? :)

Sorry, feeling incredibly lame today.

Arucard 06-17-2005 01:38 PM
