Zappa 03-01-2006 05:57 PM

Rocket from the Tombs. Awesome proto-punk that is reminiscent somehow of the Stooges meets Led Zeppelin to me.

Zappa 03-01-2006 06:11 PM

I kind of think it's cooler, in a way. More passionate.

Kayetan 03-01-2006 06:12 PM

Little Wings- Magic Wand

I just found out about this guy. The album is easily one of my favorites right now.

Also, I'm getting more and more into The Microphones.

Little Man being Erased 03-01-2006 06:24 PM

More Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Let Love In this time.

pixiesfanyo 03-01-2006 07:28 PM

Black Dice - Beaches and Canyons

One of my favorite noise albums.

YDload 03-01-2006 09:45 PM
Sun Kil Moon - Ghosts of the Great Highway

This never gets any less amazing.
This is the album that overtook Source Tags and Codes as the best album of the decade so far for you, isn't it?

I listened to some samples and it sounds like something I could really get behind. As you know, I am a big STaC fan. But certain aspects of this band/person seem like Sufjan. What sets him apart?

YDload 03-01-2006 10:04 PM

Yeah I could tell he has a great voice, like Neil Young if he could actually sing :):(
The Vines - Highly Evolved

Whatever. I still like this album.
Good stuff. As for me, 78 Saab

Little Man being Erased 03-01-2006 10:17 PM

The Clash - London Calling
The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth
The Beatles - Abbey Road

Good man.

Ficus 03-01-2006 10:55 PM

Melvins - Houdini

I forgot how good this album really was, I haven't listened to it for a long time

I Was A Kaleidoscope 03-01-2006 11:02 PM

Eagles Of Death Metal - Death By Sexy
Hella - Church Gone Wild/Chirpin' Hard

YDload 03-02-2006 02:40 AM

AW HELL YEAH!

I just figured out how to play what might be The Flaming Lips' funnest bassline: "This Here Giraffe"

G-------------------------------
D------6-7-/11-9-----6-7-/11-9-
A--7-9------------7-9----------
E-------------------------------

Now if I could only figure out the one that's slightly different from that in the same song :(

Also, "Caterwaul" and "A Classic Rock Showcase" are the best songs off of Worlds Apart by Trail of Dead. Had to include the former because it's really growing on me; sort of like the "Baudelaire" of this album. Different from the other songs but undeniably awesome too.

br3ad_man 03-02-2006 06:10 AM

I'm thinking I should check out the new Liars album.

Diggage for today:

Six Organs of Admittance - School of the Flower
Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
Belle & Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister

Zebra 03-02-2006 08:29 AM

Tortoise - TNT

Probably one of my favorite instrumental albums of all time.

Jawaharal 03-02-2006 05:28 PM

Anal Batross today

Kurtz 03-02-2006 06:05 PM

The Smiths

oh god yes

ATM 03-02-2006 06:08 PM

Sonic Youth
Count Bass D
Art Blakey

Tangy zizzle 03-02-2006 06:28 PM

The Pony's (both discs)

I've also been listening to some local bands. None of them are any good though, so that kinda sucks.

ATM 03-02-2006 07:07 PM

Everytime I hear Lust For Life now, I get angry about Jet ripping it off >:-O

Zmev 03-02-2006 07:25 PM

Morningwood - s/t

Theyre pretty lame but my gf enjoys them

BillCosby 03-02-2006 08:12 PM

Glassjaw a bit. I always laugh at the part in "Mu Empire" when he sings "the most ironic place to be is easy yeah" because of the way he slurs the end of it. Go listen to it and see what I mean.

Also:
Devendra Banhart
Jeff Buckley

ATM 03-02-2006 08:14 PM

Yea man I cant stop listening to Devendra Banhart. Such nice music.

Daniel! 03-02-2006 09:06 PM

Sly and the Family Stone - Greatest Hits
DJ Shadow - Entroducing.....

Both of these men/albums are genius.

hits of sunshine 03-02-2006 09:25 PM

Patti Smith, Sonic Youth

As for me, Boards of Canada - Geogaddi at the moment.

Brain Toad 03-02-2006 10:20 PM

I'm an indie n00b, but I've been digging some indie lately so I'll post in here

Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People
Deerhoof - Apple O'
Animal Collective - Sung Tongs

YDload 03-02-2006 10:28 PM

I don't like how Pitchfork gave Worlds Apart a 4.0 out of 10, because apparently a lot of the songs sound like ripoffs. I'm glad that the reviewer didnt tear apart my favorite song, "A Classic Arts Showcase," but he said that "Caterwaul" sounds too much like Sonic Youth or MBV. Can anyone confirm this? I'm not very familiar with them but I like that song and wouldn't be averse to hearing what influenced it.

moosepirate 03-02-2006 10:39 PM
OK yeah Today is the best.
It has a real debut-esque feel to it and I generally like that in albums. The band lost a little but of its intimacy as their composition skills got better, bit their two other albums are still solid. The guitar solo on "Flowers" is perfect.

Matt? 03-02-2006 10:50 PM

i heard that deathcab song on the radio, i dunno the name of it :-/, it was just some catchy pop song

i enjoyed it a lot :)

Great band.

How did it go?

Matt? 03-02-2006 10:58 PM

um something about body and soul were the only lines that really stuck with me

but the melody is still in my head, it's their new single i think

YDload 03-02-2006 11:05 PM

I'm guessing it's called "Where Soul Meets Body" because that's the only song I've heard from them as well (It's on MTV/VH1 too).

Kurtz 03-02-2006 11:29 PM

Yeah, it's definitely Soul Meets Body.

///

I'm really digging Band of Horses. The First Song is so good. and for some odd reason it made me think that even though Radiohead - The Tourist is a great song as it is, it would have been awesome like this.

Matt? 03-02-2006 11:38 PM

someone should upload some death cab for the mailing list, i really dug that track, really catchy

For an indie-rock hipster frontman, Ben Gibbard sure is fat. People like him are supposed to be thin and wiry! He looks more like a tech support guy who plays Warcraft while trying to help people fix their computers.
