I don't roll like that. I literally place the absolute maximum price I would pay for something as my bid and walk away. If somebody wants to outbid me, let them. It's usually not worth it to me. BTW, I won it for $6 less than my max bid. boo-yah |
Well, presuming it's not bid up in the next 15 minutes, I'll have my 4-channel DOD 240 mixer to put on my pedal board. w00tness.
Sounds interesting, how are you gonna work that in to the set-up? |
just use ezsniper. it isn't fair, but it gets results.
|
I think ebay should have some nifty (i.e. pain in the arse rules) where you can place the maximum you would pay, as usual, but everyone else does too (only once) and then at the end, just bam! you win/lose.
|
That's just um, **** I forget what it's called but we had something like that at work as a fundraiser. You secretly submit whatever you want to pay for something and if you have the highest amount at the end you get it. Silent auction? That's it I think.
|
Yeah, it's a silent auction. Ebay is one of the regular auctions where people yell out their price.
|
I'm sure there's at least one silent auction site out there.

It's just a very simple passive mixer, so I'll be using it as a 4-in, 1-out. Each of the inputs will correspond to one of my basses. All of the levels on the mixer will be set so that each channel has a similar volume. This way, I can just pick up a bass, flip the killswitch "off" on the bass, and have at it. It's sort of my take on an A/B pedal for more than two basses. All that's left to do from there is install the kill switches in a few of my basses and I'm good to go. Although it'll be some time in the future before I'm able to afford the parts, I'll be gigging a modified Spector 6, a modified Schecter 6, and a defretted Brice 6. I'm so excited to gig a fretless 6-string. |
God, Raayl is such a douche bag.
He'd be cooler if he wasn't so up on himself. |

I saw a Leem 4 line mixer at the music store the other day, no bigger than a packet of cigarettes. Seemed very basic but quite handy for a little thing. |
Ergh, I feel like a cigarette. I regret ever starting. Better yet, I regret ever starting this shithole ****ing job :)
|
These Arms Are Snakes split up :( I'm so so gutted. One of the best live bands I've ever seen, and Brian Cook is just not as good in Russian Circles D:

Yep. This one is a little bigger, but still about the size of an average Boss or Digitech single-effect pedal. Next on the list of things to get for the pedal board would be two more cheap wireless systems so that I don't have to deal with cords. Oh to dream. |
Not dealing with leads does mean dealing with batteries, however. I'm not sure I'd enjoy having to troubleshoot two wireless systems in one rig, though I did toy with the idea!
Why are you installing killswitches anyway? Don't you have volume knobs? |

It might just be a matter of buying re-chargeable batteries for the wireless systems - and I'm ok with that. At the very least, I'd like to keep only one bass with a cable so as not to get them tangled. Yes, but killswitches also break the circuit by re-directing one of the leads to the ground. You can leave a bass plugged in without draining that precious battery power (since all of my basses have some form of active circuitry). |
I need some velcro. I have a board and a bunch of pedals, I just need to attach them. Then I can finally stop worrying about setting up every time.

Walmart has 15 feet of industrial strength velcro for ~$20. That's what I use. |

Sweet. That'll be more than enough velcro. I've been wondering where to get some. |

They also carry 5-foot sections for ~$7. I need to steal a pallet from work and use it to build a new pedal board. |
My board is a piece of wood that looks like it was once part of a desk or a shelf. It fits all the pedals I currently have and has room for a few more. There are a couple more pedals I want and I'll be set.
The only thing I'll have left is to upgrade my amp to something most gangster. My amp is pretty good, couldn't hurt to have something better. |
I want to model mine after this board:
I want to build it with slats and elevate it so that I can keep it small and tight by running the cables underneath the slats. I'd also like to angle mine slightly. |

just got one of these for myself as a late x-mas present. It sounds really really good. Can't wait to use it when my band starts recording this weekend. |
Nah, Liam's pretty cool.
Nah, I don't think so, but agree to disagree. It IS just the internet. Also, my parents almost named me Liam. IZN'T DAT VEIRD? |
I think there are four trains of thought for most bassists when it comes to optimizing tone.
1) Instruments. These bassists will have an arsenal of basses, thinking that each of them possesses a special tonal quality or characteristic, swapping each of these out as they see fit for the music. Amp and effects setup are usually quite minimal. 2) Amplifiers. These bassists will generally have an array of heads and cabinets and will use different line selects to switch between them as they see fit for the music because each combination has a specific tonal characteristic. Basses and effects aren't usually an issue with them and many will only have a few (usually identical) for different tunings. Johnny April of Staind comes to mind. 3) Effects. These bassists aren't usually as concerned with amp or bass collection as they are having 30 pedals in front of them, even keeping multiples of pedal types (3 or 4 types of distortion) so that they can easily switch between the tonal characteristics to suit the music. Justin Chancellor of Tool comes to mind. 4) Purists. These bassists have an amp, a bass, and not much else. They think that every bit of tone comes from your playing, and that the bass and amp are just a means of relaying it. These purists are also usually session or cover-band bassists that claim to hear the difference in two identical Fender basses because one has a pickup with an extra centimeter of coil winding. |
