Sludge/Doom.

dfcslings 09-04-2006 08:50 AM

Any Kyuss fans??

One of my favs at the moment.

the2stranger 09-04-2006 08:56 AM

I like them.
Stoner is exellent to listen to on a warm sunny evening with a beer and a joint.

Kyle 09-04-2006 08:59 AM

Yeah, that and it's great driving music.

Anyway, Kyuss are one of my favorite bands.

the2stranger 09-04-2006 09:02 AM

I love Sleep too.

Werny 09-05-2006 07:26 AM
You've lost the plot man. You really have. You can't start redefining music on the basis of how YOU think it should sound. For example, I've decided that [insert generic metalcore band here] are what I'd call thrash. Therefore Razor and Forbidden are no longer thrash. You see how ridiculous that sounds? Well that's exactly what you're doing.

And as for Reverend Bizarre not being metal? Madness
You win on account of my young mind completely losing track of what you're saying.

I recently downloaded welcome to the sky valley.

It's awesome.

Phototropic 09-05-2006 10:16 AM

I think everyone agrees Kyuss are the feckin daddies

What a band, the ideas and the feeling...immense, pity Alfredo was a bit of a square, his drumming lacks any of the raw energy that Bjork had

Kyle 09-05-2006 10:20 AM

Ya, I seem to be in a minority around here, in that I prefer WTSV over BFTRS. They're both great though :)

Phototropic 09-05-2006 10:24 AM

Yeah I used to like Circus more than the rest, then I realised each one is amazing so I just take it as kyuss a 4 album package  Best way

Tyr 09-05-2006 03:56 PM

I realized after a couple of listens that one of the reasons I like Solitude Aeturnus is because the singer reminds me a little of Layne Staley.

pate 09-05-2006 11:51 PM

.....wow. I don't get that at all. They are both pure ownage, but different kinds of ownage.

Jondur 09-06-2006 04:05 AM
You win on account of my young mind completely losing track of what you're saying.
Haha! That's my tactics - confuse em to death!

Anyway your madness has been superceded by the comparison of Rob Lowe from Solitude Aeturnus and Layne Staley!!?!! This thread's gone mad I tell you!

Bartender 09-06-2006 07:30 AM

Jondur, have you heard The River's album yet? What's it like, if you have?

Apocalyptic Raids 09-06-2006 07:51 AM

I need to order that :(

Jondur 09-06-2006 08:12 AM

I have heard it. It's great (although the drumming is obviously not as good! I'm kidding, Chris is a good drummer). Boken Window and A Close Study off the demo are on there but some of the new songs are truly magnificent. I'd recommend it even if I wasn't biased.

Apocalyptic Raids 09-06-2006 08:14 AM

A Close Study is my favourite off the demo.

Bartender 09-06-2006 09:56 AM

Sounds good. Amber (re-recorded?) seems to be on there too.

I need to order that :(
Yeah, me too. I meant to a couple of days ago but then got caught up looking for somewhere to buy Cardiacs albums. I should go do so now.

Magicaltroll 09-06-2006 10:13 AM

Off subject, but I love Boris :D

The only thing I don't like is how they can change so drastically with each album. I don't mind growing, but COMPLETELY changing the genre of their music (basically that's what they do), is kinda weird. Like, when I get comfortable with something, they change it again.

It can be cool sometimes, but it can also be bad if you ask me.

It's not that they sound alike or anything. I just get a Layne feeling from Rob Lowe.

Why is that off topic?
Boris is awesome and cetrainly have a place in this thread. :)
I agree with your point of view though.

The Negation 09-06-2006 01:54 PM

Could somebody please recommend some Skullflower albums?
Cheeers

They were talking about some other band, and a few people were in the conversation I thought.

Ah like that.
Oh well, as long as it's related to doom/stoner stuff it's all good in this thread.

I'm playing some Skepticism right now, exellent funeral doom.

Daven 09-06-2006 04:59 PM

You love Skepticism, heh.

Maiden Voyage - Opaline Waterfalls

Nepenthe 09-06-2006 04:59 PM

Skepticism are ace. My latest Doom find is The Funeral Orchestra. Really sad stuff, I highly recommend Feeding The Abyss to any Funeral Doom fans.

I've been order doom only for the past few months.
I'm loving it and want to add the Funeral Orchestra to my collection.

Daven 09-06-2006 05:05 PM

I havent listened to funeral doom in some time now.

Is The Eleventh Room good?

the2stranger 09-06-2006 05:09 PM

Never heard of him.
He's a dutchie though.

My latest doom find is: Mar de Grises - The Tattermedallion Express.

That's what I like about them. Boris is incredible. Amplifier Worship is too good.

the2stranger 09-06-2006 05:12 PM

Aw.
I just found out why my distro doesn't have Feeding The abbys; it's limited to 999 copies.
:(

Nepenthe 09-06-2006 05:14 PM

I can send you a link sometime within the next few days, if you'd like.

Frequently Tripping 09-06-2006 05:14 PM

I never really associated stoner with doom, how did these two cross paths?

Nepenthe 09-06-2006 05:16 PM

Stoner Metal is very sludgy and rarely faster than mid paced, so it's oft associated with Doom Metal.

Kage 09-06-2006 05:18 PM

Didn't stoner and doom really originate from the same source--Black Sabbath and all that? I always considered them to be very closely related.

Nepenthe 09-06-2006 05:18 PM

In a matter of words, yes.

AA-12 09-06-2006 05:20 PM

I'm looking for stuff that is a lot like Electric Wizard and really dark. (probably a Sabbath rip off, haha). Any suggestions?
I can send you a link sometime within the next few days, if you'd like.
I won't say no to that.
Thanks. :)

np: Reclusiam - Parasellar

Nepenthe 09-06-2006 05:54 PM

I just found out that Solitude Aeternus was formed about an hour from where I live.

Magicaltroll 09-06-2006 11:11 PM

Graves At Sea

Or, if you want REALLY heavy, and REALLY dark, but not so Black Sabbath-y, check out Boris' album Amplifier Worship.

I kinda wanna second this request though, I'm looking for more bands like Electric Wizard, and Graves At Sea. The bands aren't too much alike, but they're both really slow, and really heavy, and dark. So if anyone could help me out, that'd be awesome.
