I mostly liked London Calling and the S/T, I didn't like Combat Rock other than a few awesome songs. Give em Enough Rope. Sandanista!, etc, I havn't heard much about.

I'd like to check out Sandanista! though, does it have anything in it about the acctual Sandanista revolution?

Coma_Girl 03-15-2005 10:29 PM

nothing can beat the s/t us version, except maybe the mescaleros.MAYBE.

i dont know a lot about the revolution, so i dont know.

White Riot! 03-16-2005 01:58 AM

i really like Tommy Gun , but not many people like it.

StreetlightRock 03-16-2005 04:40 AM

Heya guys, this thread is awsome! I mostly post in the R&M forum, ive got like 3 posts in punk, but The Clash do TOTALLY rock, i mean, i love rock and metal bands and all, but ive only got one poster in my room and its of The Clash - a testament to my love for them, hah.

No but seriously, Jimmy Jazz is the coolest song in the world. "Look like a soldier... feel like a theif!" LOVE those lyrics. lol, i feel like a noob. But i hardly ever talk about the Clash, all my friends think there wired and yea...

^Oh, i like Tommy Gun... i remember walking down a street once, listening to my CD player, and like, it was the last time i was gonna see a good friend of mine, whose house i just left, and i like almost cracked while Tommy Gun was playing. The Clash can have that effect on peopel, hah. /memories.

DVG.

AndreTheHyena 03-16-2005 06:57 AM

Man, Give 'em Enough Rope is choice. I have a GEER tour poster, I don't think it's original but it's still badass. It's the one with the Statue of Liberty all tied up.

Welcome to the thread :thumb:.

And I think somebody was asking about the Sandinista revolution... all I know is that it took place in Nicaragua, which is in Central America, I think.

White Riot! 03-16-2005 07:28 AM

ive seen it , its killer man!

Check out strummer! Wax on! Wax off!

its not easy being green!

White Riot! 03-16-2005 10:07 AM

Paul Simonon smashed his bass guitar - as photographed on the cover of London Calling - at exactly 10.50pm. This is because he broke his watch in the process and handed the busted bits to photographer Pennie Smith

This is scary because strummer left us when he was 50 and talked to simonon on his last night

sketchyjoe 03-16-2005 10:13 AM

That isn't scary in any way.

it's not scary, but it's sad.

i have seen the GEER poster in montreal but i havent bought it.I have this one where it's written Joe Strummer (1952-2002) and on the pictures they're all smoking and wearing leather jacket and i think joe have a hat and a shirt with a dragon.I'm sure you know which picture i'm talking about  but its the coolest poster ever.I also have the one where they all have guitars and it's written 'paris 1979', but its not on my wall yet.

Forest_Fire 03-16-2005 04:48 PM

One of my friends bought the GEER poster a couple years ago becuase he thought it looked cool, even though he didn't know who the clash were. I have the london calling one in my room; I just got it for christamas

Coma_Girl 03-16-2005 05:24 PM

i saw this really cool original clash shirt once but the guy at the store didnt want to let me buy it.he wanted to sell me something he just printed...i was like 'no i want this one!pleaaase.'...and then my friend made me realise that even if he would sell it, i'd have to pay something like 200$

Yeah. They have it a local record store here. Try looking online for it

Coma_Girl 03-16-2005 09:08 PM

yalla yalla.

Forest_Fire 03-16-2005 09:09 PM

My school project on the clash isn't coming along very nicely. It has to be 10 powerpoint slides, and so far I have 4, and none of those are pretty.

White Riot! 03-16-2005 09:11 PM

do a google image search on the clash , you can find alot of good images

Forest_Fire 03-16-2005 09:13 PM

image search is blocked at school. they found out that we kept hacking through the blocking system and somehow they put up something so we can't get around it the old way anymore. :upset: We have to find a new way. But I need some substantial text to go along with pictures

Forest_Fire 03-16-2005 09:14 PM

wait... maybe I could include a link to this thread

Coma_Girl 03-16-2005 09:19 PM

ask some computer geeks for a good IP address you can run through a proxy, thats what I do

StreetlightRock 03-17-2005 01:55 AM

Hey guys, im wondering if you could help me out a bit. Were doing a thing on 'change' for english, and we have to get a text relating to 'change in perspective'. I figured it'd be intresting to do song lyrics, and the more i think about it, the more The Clash bit the bill, just that, im not too sure which songs deal with change and all their meanings and such, ive never really taken the time to go through Clash lyrics, i figure mabye you guys would know some good songs with lyrics relating to change?

thanks,

DVG.

guns_of_brixton 03-17-2005 08:02 PM

I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I know there is a site that is something like songmeanings.com or something like that.

Revolution Rock is about the changing of music in whole, destroying the old and bringing in the new. One of my favorite songs too.

i was listening to death or glory in the car, with my headphones on, and something really strange happened.it's like i couldnt breath cause the song was...eee..stuck in my throat...i cant explain really, but its a weird feeling.i just started feeling all dizzy and feeling like i was gonna puke or something.i listened to this song at least 200x before and it never did that.you know when a song makes you sad or angry or happy...it was all that at the same time but 100 worst. :upset:

Death or Glory is a really amazing song. I play the third verse over and over again every time I listen to it. And it always feels like something stuck in my throat because I have tonsilitis :(.

Forest_Fire 03-17-2005 09:16 PM

Ouch. Are you going to have them removed?

I love that song too, although I don't listen to it as much as I should

guns_of_brixton 03-17-2005 09:22 PM

I most likely will have them removed :upset:. I just love how Death or Glory sounds. Its a perfect song, in my opinion.

Coma_Girl 03-17-2005 09:47 PM

the hands that slap his kids around cause they dont understand...

man, thats sad :upset:

White Riot! 03-18-2005 01:46 AM

The Card Cheat and Straight to hell are the two saddest clash songs IMO.........Great lyrics

You gotta do Koka Kola in your project man

Koka Kola is an awesome song about corporate culture and the way that most advertisers make every product seem close to a drug without actually being one , and coke was the first company to do that. (since they needed to keep their existing base of customers when they had to remove KoKaine out of the drink)

Koke Adds Life was an advertising slogan of coca cola (with a c not a K of course)

Here is Strummers awesome quote that is very relevant to Koka Kola

"in a world that builds on illusion. advertising is illusion... [...] in america, they're gone... i tell you they're gone... you go to california.. i'm talking really simple basic things.. you touch a piece of wood.... wrong! this wood is not wood. this wood looks like wood. [...] people smile at you... wrong! they've been told by the management to smile at you. so really, you're not seeing anything that's real... not the objects, the buildings, the signs, everything is fake. [...] and what they get we will get later... if the world is moving towards that then i'm not interested... i like to come back here cause here in london we have reality, we have people shoving you out the way... that gesture, it's clear. this guy's in a bad mood and he's shoving me out the way... that is real communication... in california, they'll sue you. they'll sue you or smile at you while he's thinking of shoving you out the way... "

hope this helps you ska

sketchyjoe 03-18-2005 04:13 AM

The Card Cheat is one of the saddest songs around.

guns_of_brixton 03-18-2005 10:23 AM

"To the opium den and the barroom gin
In the belmont chair playing violins
The gambler’s face cracks into a grin
As he lays down the king of spades

But the dealer just stares
There’s something wrong here, he thinks
The gambler is seized and forced to his knees
And shot dead"

A very cool and sad song indeed.

guns_of_brixton 03-18-2005 11:54 AM

If anyone cares this is the 5th largest thread in the punk forum.

Coma_Girl 03-18-2005 04:22 PM

ohhh today my friend found an interview with Joe in the Rock & Folk (a gay french magazine) and it was pretty good (and sad).Joe explains why they choose the name Mescaleros and how he was afraid of destroying the career of the other guys in the meskies cause the first album didnt work well. And he talks about being on drugs and understanding techno music...ohh anyway.the last words were : "Comment la mort ou la gloire sont devenus juste une autre histoire'. and i thought it was beautiful and thought the guy who did the interview was awesome...then i realized he just translated lyrics from death or glory.I never realized how words are powerful before i started listening to the clash.
