need some more Jazz Fusion

stuff like

BPM
Exivious
Gordian Knot
Gunthrie Govan
Kurt Rosenwinkel
Panzerballet
idk if you'll see this but you might like Animals As Leaders. One guy recorded all the drums and bass stuff and it has random **** like him slapping on a 7 string and he's apparently known as an "8 string guitarist", which is kind of absurdly gay. IDK it's kind of like Meshuggah-fusion. You might like it.

But know this: he's in Born of Osiris now...lol

Nepenthe 10-01-2009 12:59 AM

something about that 'know this:' makes me completely disregard the possibility of that being any good

Tyler 10-01-2009 01:01 AM

It's not bad for what it is, but it's not really my style. I just randomly stumbled across them and remembered Brent's request. They fit the mold. The guy is really talented I've just grown outta that kind of music. Still, there's a cool youtube video of him doing this tapping/slapping on 7 string that sounds really awesome. Plus he's black so you know he's really good at guitar and bass.

Nepenthe 10-01-2009 01:01 AM

and slapping

anything

Meatplow 10-01-2009 08:15 AM

i'll try those BM recs thanks

Moon Flavor 10-01-2009 09:48 AM

That Animals as Leaders album is actually pretty damn good. I've really grown to hate that whole fusion guitar virtuoso thing but the dude does it in a pretty unique way and he puts out some great melodies too. And to be fair I don't think he really slaps on the album or if he does I didn't really notice it.

I think ADB would like it

adb 10-01-2009 12:52 PM

I do like it, had the album for awhile

Tyler 10-01-2009 04:57 PM

he does slap (on his guitar) as far as i know because that's one of the things he's known for but it sounds awesome when he does

'Post metal' with clean vocals?

getting a bit tired of the isis / neurosis clones. any slow, heavy bands out there giving it the clean vox - not this putting-this-growl-on-coz-i-think-i'm-hard bullshit that seems to be drowning the post-metal racks in yer local music shop.

Six Foot Revolver 10-02-2009 05:35 AM

maybe check out pelican, they don't have any vocals and are probably the best band in the genre

Nepenthe 10-02-2009 10:30 AM

post metal with clean vocals is ****ing gay

and pelican are probably like the 45th best band in the genre

Carl Sagan 10-02-2009 10:31 AM

post metal with post metal is ****ing gay

Nepenthe 10-02-2009 10:32 AM

eliminator with synth interludes is ****ing gay

Carl Sagan 10-02-2009 10:33 AM

i want to vst your plugin

Six Foot Revolver 10-02-2009 10:36 AM

which postmetal bands even have clean singing?

Nepenthe 10-02-2009 10:37 AM

none that i can think of. long distance calling had clean vocals on one song, but it deviated far from their normal sound. but imagine it, it would be gay.

dude just needs to get supercontinent's vaalbara and revel

Nepenthe 10-02-2009 11:06 AM

kinda funny i just realized the only 2 heavy post metal bands with clean vocals are the 2 he listed saying he didnt want clones of haha
