I didn't really like Rush right away, it took me afew days after buying their first album. But now I'm in love with them.

Britton 09-23-2005 08:59 PM

I've been listening to them sense I was a kid. I would record them off the radio
and listen back..for the longest time (till I was ten) I though that them and led zeppelin were the same band

dr._feelgood 09-23-2005 09:06 PM

My favorite Rush song right now would be Limelight that intro riff is just so catchy.

Britton 09-23-2005 10:54 PM

Yea I havn't listened to that in a long time.

One of my favorites too. I like Fly By Night and Freewill as well.

Any other Rush fans besides me absolutely despise the song "Fly By Night?"

I like that song

What don't you like about it?

One Rush song I can't stand is The Big Money

rockinbass17 09-24-2005 09:12 AM

I like Fly By Night. I don't love The Big Money, but I can listen to it. My least favorite Rush song is probably Witch Hunt.

Yeah, I can't stand that song.

I like the song. The album is pretty weak overall though.

Mainly, Geddy's voice is terrible in that song, IMO. Also, I think it just has a horribly cheesy sound to it.

classicrockman 09-24-2005 10:22 AM

I know that it's the Rush song that everyone knows...but "Freewill" is still good to me.

Firecracker 09-24-2005 10:49 AM

Fly By Night is a good song, but not as good as "Freewill", "Spirit Of Radio" or "Closer To The Heart" for example.

Xanadu 09-24-2005 01:32 PM

ive been listening to analog kid alot recently

Distant Echoes 09-24-2005 02:02 PM

Analog kid is actually a pretty decent song for their latter material from what i remember.

The Big Money has one of my favorite song structures around, but when it slows down to what i think is the verses, it kills it. If they rocked the whole way through, it would be one of my favorites.

Fly by night is good, but I hate the guitar work other then the intro riff. I was never big on the guitar chords matching up with the vocals throughout a song either.

Spirit Of radio is great. Ive been trying to find ways to recreate or just extend the guitar solo, but can not. Something about it I cant replicate....But i still need to find out how Lifeson plays to the solos like Freewill and Working man, which might be considered shredding at the certain parts. Just barring a fret and pressing notes fast doesnt help much, the scale would be a good start - but theres no tabs to be found online for them.

I always seem to have trouble playing Lifeson's solos. I'm not sure why. I can match the speed, it's just, some of them are so unorthodox sounding in the rhythm that it's difficult (see the solo to "Tom Sawyer" for example).

Huber 09-25-2005 07:14 PM

What do you guys think of the later albums, like Vapor Trails? I got the Rush In Rio DVD and saw them play Earthshine and that song sounded pretty awesome. I was surprised because I heard the album wasn't very good.

YouGottaBeCrazy 09-25-2005 07:33 PM

It's a pretty **** good cd in my opinion.

As much as I like Lifeson, I hate the solo in Tom Sawyer. His tone is annoying to me, and it's a poorly constructed solo, in my opinion.

I feel you man.

rockinbass17 09-25-2005 08:13 PM

I like the Tom Sawyer solo :upset:
But I'm not a guitarist, so I wouldn't know about solo structure.

It just doesn't flow at all. If you want a great Lifeson solo, go for La Villa Strangiato.

You don't have to be a guitarist to know what sounds good :)

Yes, yes it does.

Artemician 09-27-2005 02:14 PM

I can't believe it took me so long to come to the Rush thread.

Anyway, I agree, the La Villa Strangiato solo is one of my favorites.

YouGottaBeCrazy 09-27-2005 02:26 PM

You have a cool avatar.

Distant Echoes 09-27-2005 03:13 PM

La Villa Strangiato is actually a song i can notice a sginificant diiference from the studio version. Other then the intro improv ripping down the scale, they play it much better and much more rockish then the studio version...but i dont know. Just one mans opinion.

But on the live album the time is the exact same as the studio version. Precision to its finest...
