You didnt make it clear, all you said was you narrowed it down to those three, you didnt say that you shop was terrible and there was no other, or that you were not open to anymore suggestions, usually people are open to more suggestions. But regardless of that, out of those three i have no real in depth expierence i only played them momentarily so I am of no use. Of what i do remember id personally pick the paiste full crash if you got the money for it and if not go for the vault.
Aw man, I read it back, and I sound like an ass. And it's not that the shop's terrible, it's just that what's on display is what they have. They have about 20 Zildjians, 25 Sabians and a smattering of Paistes and Staggs, but that's it. They can order in, but as cymbals are fickle instruments, it may not sound like I want. So, I picked the ones I liked best, and am looking for a little guidance. If no one can really help, then that's allright, I just wondered if anyone could.

Also, it's not that I'm not open to suggestions, but anything you suggest will either:
a - not be there or
b - have already been rejected

I'll most likely play them all again, just to make sure, but it's mainly between those 2 Sabians. I've ruled out the Paiste for now because they are consistant, and I can get one of them in and be sure it'll sound good.

this isnt a question, but i had a chance to meet a local drummer with a 602 super ride 20 inch, it was amazing!!!!! after the gig i had a chance to play a little thing on it. then easily offered two hundred dollars to him for the cymbal not nowing what it was worth. his reply make it 500 and we can have a deal :thumb:

he bought it from a studio pat methany used to record an album, and is the actual cymbal on the album.

now here comes the question, do you know where i can find one of these rides and how much it would cost if it was not used on an album?

sleepless 05-16-2005 12:53 PM

Johnny, I need your Cymbertise again.

Alright, I've nixed the idea of the Studio Crash as it would obviously be too thin for my playing. What can I do for an alternative? I need something dark mind you...

HHX
HH Heavy Ride

bobby__johnny 05-16-2005 01:56 PM

usually Stage and Medium weights are perfectly durable....maybe look into the Hand Hammered Medium Crash...17"+?

MWDrummer 05-16-2005 06:48 PM

Hey, I'm looking for a China Cymbal (Pref Zildjian)

I am looking at the A Custom 18" China or 18" Zildjian Oriental to go with:

20" A Custom Ping Ride
18" Z Custom Crash
16" A Custom Projection Crash
14" A Custom Mastersound Hats
10" A Custom Splash

If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know!

Thanks.

athemeformurder 05-16-2005 07:53 PM

im looking for new cymbals. i play mostly heavy metal and hardcore. i've already decided on buying paiste rude hi hats, but i need a good ride and crash. what cymbals would be good for this type of music?

bobby__johnny 05-17-2005 01:42 PM

Sig Power Crashes if yu can afford it.

hundurinn 05-17-2005 01:48 PM

I'm looking for a decent ride to buy.

I've narroved them down to:

Zildjian A Series Rock Ride
Paiste Alpha Power Ride Cymbal
Paiste PST 5 Rock Ride
Zildjian ZBT Ride

My music style is rock/hard rock.
I'd be glad if you could give me your opinion and maybe give me other suggestions. My price range is from <100-200$

bobby__johnny 05-17-2005 03:23 PM

get the A. Rock Ride....how you could consider the rest with that one there is beyond me though.

hundurinn 05-17-2005 04:28 PM

:D They were just in case I didn't get a job this summer. I just got an answer recently and I got the job so Zildjian A Series Rock Ride is MINE.

Fabrizzio 05-18-2005 03:47 AM

im looking to buy a crash with a nice kinda earthy sound, nothing to overpowering but with enough power to keep the strong effect that the crash cymbal is known for. Something at a mid price range would be good

bobby__johnny 05-18-2005 01:38 PM

hmm...Maybe look into getting a Byzance Crash in th Dark or Dry Finishes.

Plan B. 05-18-2005 02:51 PM

Haven't been here in a while, haha, good to see this mother of a thread is still kicking.

Good recomendations, big or strong dry crashes seem to be what you're looking for.

Possibly and 18" Speicial Dry crash Zildjian. That way you get that earthy sound, but being a larger model it won't be as fast of a crash.

bobby__johnny 05-18-2005 07:26 PM

but the dryness, and the thin model would certainly aid in that fact.

DruMMeR_BoY14 05-19-2005 12:59 AM

Well... I just released a small crack in my top hi hat, so yeah they are gonan be gone in like a month so I need some sugesstions for new hi hats.

I was looking at A Quick Beats a while ago, I love the crisp sound of them, but I also played on some K hats and absolutly loved them. I'm basicly looking for hats with good stick definition and a good wash sound, also need to cut. Any suggestions are appreciated, doesn't have to be Zildjian, but Paiste are hard to come by around here (have to grive bout an hour to get to a store with a good stock) and are also expensive, and I'll be paying for them myself.

Fabrizzio 05-19-2005 01:01 AM

Ok sounds good, wats the price tag?

I just got the Zil A New Beats (14"). They are a great high quality all around sound. So sweet :thumb: (considering they replaced zbt's).

fullmetalhaallee 05-19-2005 06:09 PM

does anyone that listens to the band underoath know what crash the drummer uses that sounds almost like breaking glass?

Sponer 05-19-2005 06:13 PM

A bit ago I asked what you guys recomended as crashes. I think I've decided that my main crashes are going to be Sabian AA's, 17" + 19".
However... I realized that I'd much rather upgrade my B8 ride before any other cymbals since it use my ride far more than I do any other cymbal. And last band practice, I was really hating the sound I was getting from it. Usually I'm fine with it, but for some reason I just hated it. Anyways...

Here's what I'm looknig for:

- loud and clear bell
- clean sound hitting the bow so paterns are easily heard (sorry if that's not the proper name... I mean the part around the bell :))
- can be crashed on and still make a nice sound

thanks!
Oh, and I'd prefer Sabian but I am open to other brands.

bobby__johnny 05-19-2005 07:07 PM

AA medium Ride. you'll get definition, and spread all in one.

Stubbsy 05-20-2005 01:24 AM

Bobby, i have decided what cymbals i am going to slowly add onto my kit.
Here goes,

Zildjian Oriental 16" China Trash
Zildjian 16" A Medium Crash.
Zildjian 21" A Rock or Ping ride.
Zildjian 8" A Splash.
Zildjian 13" or 14" A Mastersound Hi-hats (not sure what size sounds better).
Zildjian 18" A Medium Crash.

Keeping, 8" ZBT Splash (love the sound) and 20" Ride. Going to put a hammer to my ZBT crash, and also keep the hi-hats as second hats over near my floor tom.

What do you and any body else think? :thumb:

Thanks, I'll be sure to check em out.

zhong 05-20-2005 06:19 AM

sabian alternative for zildjian's 18" K crash/ride?
or any other rides that sounds similar and has a nice crashable wash?

spiritII 05-20-2005 08:15 AM

Any particular reason you want a Sabain alternative? Why not just get the K?

Murd_666 05-20-2005 02:29 PM

who knows, maybe it's easier to get sabian but the equivilent ok the K would be the HH Crash Ride

stevoibanez 05-20-2005 06:21 PM

I'm looking to replace my Solars. I play metal, rock, punk, emo, screamo, hard rock, etc. I pretty much decided what I want for hats and ride. I just need help for the crashes.
I was thinking : 16" Vault, 17" Vault, 18" Vault, 19" AAXplosion

What do you think of that combination, and would you suggest other cymbals (try to stick with Sabian)

You may want to try 18" AA Medium Crash, and I'm pretty sure that Bobby Jonny will tell you to stay away from the Xplosion crash. You also may want to try out an 18" HH Medium Crash. Just a thought though. Absolutely nothing wrong with the Vault series, but just for some more variety.

As ever, always try out cymbals in person.

stevoibanez 05-21-2005 06:27 AM

Ok coll I'll look into those. But why do you say to stay away from the AAXplosion? I've played it during a show and it rox my sox.

I said I'm pretty sure Bobby Jonny would say that. He's not a fan of the Xplosion crashes. But hey, if you like it, then by all means. It's ultimately your choice. If you like it, get it!

good choices, though instead of taking a hammer to a perfectly fine cymbal, sell it for cash. or if you wanna feel eco-friendly, clean it up, and return it to Zildjian with a note saying to recycle it.
I said I'm pretty sure Bobby Jonny would say that. He's not a fan of the Xplosion crashes.
your **** right i'm not :)
But hey, if you like it, then by all means. It's ultimately your choice. If you like it, get it!
exactly. having said that, look into the AA medium crash ;)
