hmm, i needed advice, i like dream theater, but i am not a die hard fan, and i need to know their hardest keyboard solo. A friend of mine can do anything that i've given him by dream theater, but i need the Hardest keyboard solo, try and screw him up.
Try some LTE, Acid Rain, Paradigm Shift, Universal mind, WHen the Water breaks, almost all LTE songs have kickass keys solos.

the2stranger 03-30-2005 10:07 AM

did you know, Jordan Rudess will be joining Steven Wilson and the Israeli dude, with their Blackfield unplugged tour?
some bandmembers of blackfield had trouble getting a visum for touring the US, so Rudess had volentered to take over the key parts, I wish I lived in the US, just for that show :upset:

you can read details on the DT site:

It's alright. I wouldn't have Take the Time and Surrounded on it though. Maybe a track from 6DOIT Disc 1.

hey guys....

I have heard of Dream Theater, but for some reason never got the chance to hear any of their songs. I recently read rumors and many sites that Dream Theater along with King Diamond will be the mystery bands to tour with Megadeth this summer. And since I love King Diamond's music, DT caught my attention. So, can anyone suggest a good bunch of songs for me to get? thanks guys

vashts80 04-03-2005 11:23 AM

Holy sh.it. People, get the official bootleg of "Dream Theater - The Number of the Beast"...the acoustic guitar intro to Children of the Damned is played on keyboard, and LaBrie almost mimmicks Bruce's scream at the beginning of the title track. :D

I personally wouldn't but Another Day or Surrounded on that, I don't really like them...

I'd replace them both by The Glass Prison, which is IMO, one of, if not their best, song.

Home
The Spirit Carries On
Finally Free
The Glass Prison

I've never got the fuss about TGP. I don't think it flows that well, I think the 'Run, fast, from the wreckage...' section is WAY too drawn out and feel the solo section is actually pretty boring. And the 1-0-0-0 breakdown riff was utilised WAY better in This Dying Soul. Meh, to each their own I guess.

That's my favorite section of the song. I think the end is drawn out a bit too long personally.

Plus the main riff/verse section/intro are just amazing.

I agree...I love the breakdown riff and the beginning. For me, the first 8 minutes are just...amazing. the riff with with the wah and the way MP comes in...its amazing. I also like JLB and MP singing "Enter the Door..." part and then the transition riff after the breakdown part.

I dont know...its my favorite DT song now...(bumped Learning to Live off its top spot, which is hard to do)

FlyingPaul_83 04-03-2005 12:47 PM

I could listen to glass prison all day and not get bored.....maybe

BradyEB 04-03-2005 08:57 PM

I love the glass prison and this dying soul. I cant wait to hear the next part of the series.

Magicaltroll 04-03-2005 09:06 PM

Anyone here know when the new CDs coming out?

MAthiAS 04-03-2005 09:29 PM

Like June 7th or 11th I think.
the 2nd cd, of 6 degrees off inner turbulence is a concept album, telling a story.
and the story is diveded in 6 'chapters' or 6 individual songs if you like it :p
but the cd is to bee seen as one song :thumb:
its not a concept album, its just about mental illness and is played as one song, but for the cd its just broken up. They play the full 42 mins live.

Then why did you say you never got the fuss about it if it's your favorite song?

You know that the singing in that part alternates between James, John Petrucci and Mike, right?

Mike: Run!
James: Fast, through the wreckage of the past, a shattered glass prison wall behind me
John: Fight!
James Past, walking through the ash, a distant oasis before me

Mike: Crawling!
James: Desparate, crawling on my knees, begging God to please stop the insanity
John: Help me
James: I'm trying to believe, stop wallowing in my self pity...We've been waiting for you my friend, etc...

James + Mike Helllp me....Save mee....

Mike: Enter the door!
James: Desparate!
John: Fighting no more!
James: Help me restore!
Mike: To my sanity!
James: At this temple of hope!
Mike: I need to learn!
James: Teach me how
John: Sorrow to burn
James: Help me return
Mike: To humanity
James: I've been fearless and thorough on the way to this temple of hope!

James: Believe!
Mike: Transcend the pain
James: Living the lie
John: Humility
James: Open my eyes!
Mike: To this new oddessy
James: Of rigorous honesty
Mike: Serenity
James: That I never knew
John: Soundness of mind
James: Help me to find
Mike: The courage to change...all the things that I can

Maybe I didn't need to type that out, but there you go, a little bit of info for DT fanatics :D

I didn't say that, some other dude said that. I thought it was just Mike doing the alt. vocals. Its so bad ***...especially how fast JLB says "I've been fearless and thorough on the way to this temple of hope" part and then it breaks into that riff, which is so bad ***!!! God I love the song!

IvortheEngineDriver 04-04-2005 10:13 PM

Random statement, but does anyone else thing MP's drumming on "Under a Glass Moon" is orgasmic? I love the double bass that continues throughout the song

Holy crap, I'm sorry dude, I could've swore you were the guy who posted he didn't like the song, then followed it up saying you liked it...whoops

I wasn't sure who did the extra vocals until I read the booklet...

I had no idea JP did any vocals till I saw a live video of them doing this song. :amaze:
