so guys, I've almost finished the Silmarillion (god, hundreds of names!) of but I dont quite understand to what incidents refer some of the songs off the Nightfall in Middle Earth. Do you know where I could find them?

and this is a group I discovered when I was looking for Watchtower like groups: Complex 7 :)

sensitiveorgan00 03-26-2005 11:30 AM

Downloaded two albums last night: Time Requeim - "The Inner Circle of Reality" and Dark Moor - "The Hall of the Olden Dreams". I <3 Euro-power metal vocals. :drools:

I've never heard of Dark Moor, how do they sound like?

It's not too bad. Somewhat like Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, and Angra. I don't like the singer that much. My friend LOVES them though.

Is Three Inches Of Blood considered power metal?

Yes they are.

Similar to Rhapsody and the rest, but really uber. The vocalist (on The Hall of Olden Dreams) is a woman if I'm not mistaken.

I think this is helpful.

I gave up reading the Silmarillion after the first few chapters, got to salute you for that endurance. :p

Well, according to Metal-Archives, the vocals for The Hall of the Olden Dreams was done by Elisa Martin. And I'm positive that's a female. Half the members left Dark Moor and so there's new line up now. The current vocalist is a guy though.

EXACTLY what I was looking for! God (who?!) bless you!

EDIT:
How is reading one of the best published archives of Tolkien's awesomeness a feat of endurence?!
Tolkien builts a whole new world of his own starting literally from zero. So, his descriptions are full of details which are quite difficult to remember and/or follow at times (I have serious trouble with the names and have to go back all the time!). Some people are not willing to put so much effort reading it and/or they dont like his style. It's a totally subjective matter. Personally, I really like the book and I'm sure things will be much clearer on a second read.

Well, the first part on the world creation was very dry and incredibly hard to digest. I figured it might get better as the pages progress, but I didn't hold out. I can't remember where I'd stopped and I can't check since I don't own a copy. I'm sure though that getting to the interesting parts would take a mighty bit of determination and endurance for some people. My only saving grace is that I'd finished LOTR before I picked up the Silmarillion, so I'm not totally ignorant of Tolkien's awesomeness. As a reader I can't say I'm a big fan of his writing style, but I do admire the beauty of Middle-Earth and infact highly respect Tolkien for creating a rich and inspiring world which influenced and helped popularise the fantasy genre that I love!

Okay slightly long-winded and poseurish but well nevermind...

But they don't show a good example of a Power Metal band

Sleeper 03-27-2005 10:06 PM

I have recently started listening to Syphony X, Im not sure though what would be a good album to get first.

I basically just looked them up on metal-archives . It says heavy/power metal. I haven't heard any of their music yet.

Personally I think they improved with each album. I suggest working backwards through their discography.

But if you like more straightforward (boring) neo-clasical shred type stuff then get Divine Wings of Tragedy first.

Eh, I understood it just fine with just 1 read... but that's after reading LOTR, The Hobbit, and Unfinished Tales, it's basically just that Tolkien's writing style was much too extravagant and drawn out, but he still kicks ass

I'd start with The Divine Wings of Tragedy first, or V: The New Mythological Suite as those two are my favorite Symphony X albums.

Couldn't agree more with some good Symphony X starters

Has anyone else here heard Yngwie's album 'Attack!!'? I got it a few days ago, and holy **** it kicks ***. People who think of Yngwie as nothing but repetitive scalar runs and poorly written hair metal need to buy this album. 'Ship of Fools' , 'Valhalla' and 'Iron Clad' are some of the best power metal songs I've heard in a while. And yes, they are power metal, Valhalla sounds like Rhapsody minus the symphonics.

Also, Yngwie sings! He does all the backing vocals and sings lead on a song called 'Freedom Isn't Free', which is a cool song with a hard-rock vibe to it.

Also, Baroque & Roll is the greatest song title ever. It's a cool song too, if you ignore the fact that it sounds like an attempt to re-write 'Far Beyond the Sun'. Actually, no, even if you don't ignore that it's still a really good song.

So, yea, anyone else like this album? Or Yngwie in general?

sensitiveorgan00 03-29-2005 03:48 PM

I saw a live video of Baroque & Roll, awesome shi.t. The only Malmsteen album I know is Rising Force, and I don't listen to it often.

Stoic 04-03-2005 03:44 PM

are you guys familiar with The Lord Weird Slough Feg? They're not exactly power (they play a mix of folk, traditional, doom and power according to metal-archives) but I believe they would be really huge in a fair world.

heyho_letsgo 04-03-2005 05:44 PM

a good one is Thy Magestie. But I also love dragonforce, blind guardian, stratovarius and Rhapsody(there coming to canada and im gonna see em!!!!!!!!!)

Rhapsody is coming to Canada! Holy ****face!! Where, when, and how much?

RiceMonster 04-03-2005 07:19 PM

Hell yes!! I'm getting tickets without doubt.

Huber 04-04-2005 10:19 PM

Anyone know if DragonForce is coming to the US anytime soon?

Brew 04-06-2005 02:59 PM

Is anyone from the UK going to the Thirteenth Day festival in July?

Its looking like a great day so far, with Sonata Arctica headlining.

Hammerheart 04-06-2005 03:02 PM

Lost Horizon is the best power metal band ever.

That is all.

Shattered_Future 04-06-2005 03:15 PM

I just got into some different power metal bands...

Mostly Iced Earth, Nightwish (best...band...EVER...), Sonata Arctica, Forgotten Tales (another great band) and Children Of Bodom (i dont wanna start a fight of what they are, i consider them power metal).
