i think ajfa is their best album.it has classic songs like one, harvester of sorrow(their best song),shortest straw, blackened, dyers eve,to live is to die.although i like cliff over jason and robert.most people dis on ajfa but its a great album.
yes i think it's a great album, i just don't think it's there best. they've produced better songs than the ones on ajfa. yes, i like most of the ones on ajfa, but i like the earlier songs better

I agree with the Cliff part there, i prefer him over jason and rob any day, and Harvester of sorrow would probably be my favourite song of the justice album also, with close competition from Blackened hehe...
On shortest straw, is that Larz doing backing vocals, or is it my ears... i have wondered that for years???

Burdcheese 02-08-2005 05:01 PM

AJFA used to be my favourite, but then the production really started to get on my nerves to the extent that it actually detracts from the quality of the songs themselves. I find most of the tracks quite boring really.

For example, AJFA (the song) really drags, yet its great live - though sadly they don't play it very often.

The only songs on AJFA I actually actively like are One (The definitive Metallica song?), TLITD and Dyers Eve.

I know a lot of people feel the same way which is why I can't understand how that of all Metallica's albums made it into the final.

i like the riffs in ajfa, but your right. the song is about 3 mins too long.

the sad thing is is that Enter Sandman is the definitive Metallica song because it's the only song half of the Metallica "fans" have ever heard.
But besides that, I go with One or Master of Puppets

Mister_Che 02-08-2005 05:06 PM

Definitive Metallica Song = Enter Sandman

Admit it, it's true, :upset:

no,good song but overplayed to the point that you want to kill the radio.id say their best song is harvester of sorrow or dyers eve

LarsAgi007 02-08-2005 05:10 PM

Its true
i like the riffs in ajfa, but your right. the song is about 3 mins too long.

I couldn't agree with you more there, and those extra three minuites of the song sound like a totally different song, have you noticed that???
Its like they have got a totally different song, intergrated the AJFA lyrics and glued it to the end...!

no but definitive song means when you ask people about a metallica song the answer you get will be enter sandman from most people

willis2441 02-08-2005 05:19 PM

sad but true too, basically anything on the black album is definitive for them.
nothing else matters is well known as a metallica definitive song
yea, pathetic isn't it? not that they're bad songs, it's just they're far from the best
nothing else matters is well known as a metallica definitive song
Yes true, i have used that song to suck so many people into the world of Metallica, if you know someone who dislikes metal, sofen them up with nothing else matters lol....
Then move onto sanitarium, and maybe call of ktulu??? intersting hmmmm

LarsAgi007 02-08-2005 05:25 PM

Speaking of definitive songs.... Ok what song of Metallica's did you first hear??? And what made you come about hearing it???

Mister_Che 02-08-2005 05:25 PM

To be honest, I love the acoustic part on To Live Is To Die more than most of Nothing Else Matters.

ok so they first metallica song i heard was enter sandman, but i didn't know it was metallica at the time. i found out it was metallica when my friend asked me to do the wah part in the intro and so he showed me everything and i found out it was metallica. so then i started playing enter sandman in another class and this other dude started playing fade to black so i downloaded fade to black and then bought RTL and it all went uphill from there...

you?

I was about 8 years old and kept getting dragged to all these Metal concerts by my dad, i think i was a robbie williams fan then lmao k/d and most evenings my dad would put on some music, i liked one song inparticular and it was called dont tread on me by metallica obviously, i then went out and bought the black album, and one week later got blown away when i bought the ride the lightning album, this was in about november, i asked for the remaining metallica albums for x.mas in which i got :)

willis2441 02-08-2005 05:33 PM

the first metallica song i heard was one,in my step dads car,and i thought the double bass part was so cool,i was tellin all my friends about it.

^Dream~Theater^ 02-08-2005 05:37 PM

My friend put on the RTL cd at my friends house one time and FFWF sold me.

JACKROXYOU 02-08-2005 05:38 PM

heh

awsome

LarsAgi007 02-08-2005 05:39 PM

I would probably not put nothing else matters in my top 5 or even top 10, but one song that i would put in my top 5 would be fade to black, it has its gentleness but it has triplets on snare and bass drum and heavy riffs that make it kick *** when it gets going. definatly a song with soul and emotion though... I believe it was written just after all Metallica's equipment was stolen from a lorry in boston!!! so that grey tama kit from the 'One' video has to be somewhere!!!!

You realize Fade To Black came before One was written right? So the drumkit in the video was not the one that was stolen.

JACKROXYOU 02-08-2005 05:45 PM

what?
You realize Fade To Black came before One was written right? So the drumkit in the video was not the one that was stolen.
yea fade to black was on RTL which came years before AJFA and Fade to Black was written about the stolen equipment
You realize Fade To Black came before One was written right? So the drumkit in the video was not the one that was stolen.
I like you, you look into messages deeply.... The kit that was stolen was the same model as in the One video though not that exact one though, new equipment was ordered of course and everything got back on track, Lars chose to use the same kit yet again as he seems to like the double bass starclassic tama kits, hence the grey one in 'one' the silver glittery one in S&M and the Green glittery one in St Anger!!!

Mister_Che 02-08-2005 05:49 PM

I wish I had a green glittery guitar. Well, at lest green. Like that guy from Atreyu.

I think there is a white tama starclassic kit used in live binge and purge also....

I just wished I had a guitar that was decent. I'm currently saving for a better one. Hopefully I'll get one soon.
I just wished I had a guitar that was decent. I'm currently saving for a better one. Hopefully I'll get one soon.
Hey good luck with the new guitar... It seems so hard to get a decent guitar these days.. I am a drummer, but i also have a Gibson epiphone, its a pretty good guitar for me, not sure if its good in general though, i just like learning riffs on it so i can record them and play drums to them....

Huber 02-08-2005 06:15 PM

Reason for not having a good guitar: 99% of my money goes to drumming.

MoX_KIll 02-08-2005 06:16 PM

I gave up on music...i dont have the talent, the patience or the time

Mister_Che 02-08-2005 06:22 PM

I've gotten a few Metallica songs down nicely on my B.C. Rich Platinum Mockingbird.

Wow...you have your info a bit mixed up.

Lars' first Starclassic was the Silver Sparkle one...

And of course he uses the Blue Sparkle Starclassic one in conjunction with the Silver for recording.

His kit in Live Shit Binge & Purge is a custom Tama Artstar II with Granstar II lugs...

:thumb:

AND, the kit Lars used during RTL was a chrome Imperialstar (which wasnt stolen I dont believe)...

He upgraded to the white custom Artstar II around MoP time and hung onto it up until the end of the Black Album tours (where he had acquired another one, possibly two)...

And the loss of equipment when recording RTL was not so easily fixable for James at least, who had lost a very rare and beloved Marshall amp.
He spent ages searching as much of Europe as he could for one and had to settle on a similar model that he found in Copenhagen (or somewhere of the sort).

Actually... Lars and James (as said themselves) were obsessing about death and suicide back then and thought it would make a good song, and the equipment being stolen just kinda... pushed it along I guess.

Well hey man, you know your stuff.... as i said.... I am led to believe lol...
Also i set no order in which lars had the drums, just what drums i have seen him use, and yes there is a blue kit also.... *Recording kit*
The main thing Lars did change over the years, not counting the colours... was the amount of rack toms he uses.... 4 rack toms then and not its normally two placed between the two bass drums, however now he uses two floor toms also...

Heh, fair enough...

Lars did have 4 rack toms from the start and 2 floor toms, he took off the other 2 toms towards the end of the Black Album tours.
